I Like this! Have to ask, do you think this will work with P3D V3?

I like the rivet detail ! Superb! :encouragement:

Thanks Butch. I don't have P3D any version so can't say if it will work or not. Textures will be 2048 .dds.

I find that most stuff done in FSX will will work with the 32 bit version of P3D (V3.4)

So, got my fingers crossed and hoping. :untroubled:

Wow! Even more detail. Last time I saw this much attention to detail was with Ted (Tufun) all the rivet detail for his C-47 . Think this will be another favorite flyer for me. :encouragement:

More WIP ...

Weathering is about done but still tweaking. (I guess tweaking really never ends, does it?)

Beginning work on individual aircraft markings now. Dash 3 from VB-17, CV-12 USS Hornet 1945 is first.

The new paint work really looks exceptional, Duckie! I know from experience just how much work you must have invested in this and the results are fantastic (I really like the properly-drawn stars & bars too). I'm really looking forward to adding this paint, if you choose to upload it, and any/all others you may decide to do. If you should ever find the time and interest, I think it would be awesome to have a repaint of the CAF's one and only currently flying Helldiver as well (three more are currently under restoration to fly in the US, with at least a couple of those expected to be flying within the next couple of years).

Thank you John. Lots of work but very enjoyable in all aspects as I’m sure you know. Been looking at this one for along time and finally took the plunge. Didn’t know about the other restorations. Should be an awesome sight when they take flight. It’s always good to see bits of history preserved.

I’ve thought about the CAF but it wouldn’t be a true repro. The are some obvious visuals, the frameless forward canopy and the removed wheel cover doors, as well as a couple mapping issues that would become more prevalent with that paint. These kinda nag at me, but I haven’t totally ruled it out though.

I can definitely understand certain mapping situations dictating which paints can/can't work (I know from experience with my Mustangs that there is one Fighter Group in particular where I can't accurately depict the nose markings due to an issue with the mapping which I hadn't considered at the time). With regard to the wheel doors, however, the CAF Helldiver has had the doors for the past few years now. Vulture's Row Aviation in California was able to manufacture a brand new set, based on an original surviving example and the original blueprints. Unfortunately it does still have the frame-less forward canopy and wildly inaccurate stars & bars. https://flickr.com/photos/ajw1970/49465169303/

Great photo John. Great looking plane. The big mapping issue most folks wouldn’t notice on the period paints, and those who do would probably just let it go as my omission. The main gear strut door is flipped horizontally and offset on the opposite side, not mirrored but the same real estate is flipped. In other words forward on one side is aft on the other, and, since the shape Of the door is unique, and with the offset on one side, any hope of getting painted objects to align is out the window. Any how, it’s still on my list and with the addition of the wheel cover doors it will stay a little longer. Thanks for posting that photo. It shows a lot of stuff to good advantage.

Great! This is new paintkit?

No, not a new paint kit, just my interpretation of the textures using the AH paint kit as a base point.

A note to developers. Encourage painters. I'd been looking at this plane since it came out and never got around to buying it. After these beautiful paints, I did. Thanks Duckie.

Well it's just a 'note' of thanks to Baz and team for a superb model, along with very life-like crew, just beautiful..;)

And D, stunning tex there fella. Again brings it to life even more, love the subtle weathering on 116/107, just as a new-ish ac would look, along with that soft sheen... :encouragement:

Absolutely fantastic! I love the overall glossy dark sea blue paint schemes, and it really allows one to appreciate the lines of the aircraft better too. The Fagen Fighters (super authentic/detailed) SB2C-5 Helldiver restoration, which is rapidly nearing completion to fly, will be finished in an authentic 1945-era glossy dark sea blue paint scheme as well (as is their Hellcat).

Looking forward to seeing it available in the library!

It is a shame that the board member who went by the handle "Helldiver" isn't here to see these repaints. He had experience with the SB2C and I think he would approve of these works of art.
