I've just built a new system and cant get FSX-SE to run
I can start it as far as the menu's which all work fine but when I click fly all I get is a black screen with a mouse pointer that will stay that way forever if I let it.

All new PC with a fresh install of Windows 10 and a fresh unaltered install of FSX-SE

I've tried verifying the interity of the game files in Steam
Running it as an administrator.
Running it in compatability mode for both XP, and Win7.
installing the DX9 redist.
Installing the Microsoft visual C++ library's both x86 and x64
Deleting the fsx.cfg and logbook.bin

I'm all out of ideas.
Anyone have any sugestions ?

Edit: forgot to add I tried ALT/TAB to make sure there where no dialog boxes hiding behind the black screen, there where not.

Hi DB,
Not a GPU driver issue, as a new card and drivers. I saw you have installed DX 9.0, if only 9.0 then also install 9.0C as well.

It may be a resolution issue, try reducing the GPU resolution to a very low setting and see.

Before running FSX try turning off the UAC, just for that trial period, then re-try starting FSX again.

I hope also that you installed FSX OUTSIDE of the default location, if not try uninstalling and re-install to just C: drive and not to programmes etc.

Cheers

FSX is installed on a different drive, I'v known about that one for years.
Latest Nvidia drivers installed.
I'v tried it at whatever resolution FSX sets on install and the moniors native res of 1440p
All other options are at install defualt ATM.

I hav'nt tried turning UAC off yet although I never needed to on the old rig. I'll give it a try tommorow, way past bedtime now :)

Interesting development.

I tried turning on DX10 preview mode and hit the fly button and the default flight loaded just fine.
after that I turned the DX10 preview mode off again and the it doesnt work again but instead of a black screen I now get a white screen.
To me that would points to a DX9 issue but I've also tried running a couple of other older DX9 games and they work fine.

So I'm still no closer to fixing it and I'm even more confused

You loaded DX9.0, but did you load DX9.0C ?
That's a key thing to have...

I know this "stuff" can sure be frustrating! :banghead:

Good fortune to ya!

Yes, I think.
My searches for DX9C bring up a file called directx_Jun2010_redist.exe which installed a few files and also asked to dowload and install .net framework 3.5

Still the same problem though.
I have since found that I can run FSX DX9 in windowed mode, if I press ALT/Enter to go to full screen its back to black screen.
I fixed the white screen by deleting the fsx.cfg again.

Yep that's it (as suggested).

And now install .Net 3.5, these are all files that FSX want to 'see', it will not harm your OS, as you can install all the .Net frameworks you like.

You may have to re-install FSX after these updates.

It prob is not the UAC, but have you tried that?
