After a trip to Costa Rica where I hiked carrying 25 lbs of camera gear all week, I ordered a Nikon Z 7 upon return. I love the camera. It has been like rediscovering photography. Its size and weight are a dream after dragging around the D4 and D810. I got it with the kit 24-70 f/4 lens and have preordered the 14-30 f/4. The FTZ adapter allows me to use my F-mount lenses. The built-in stabilization (IBIS) give VR to older non VR lenses like my old 50mm f/1.8 D.

If you are considering this camera, I highly recommend it. Here are a few shots taken with the camera over the last month. All are with the 24-70 kit lens except for the hawk. That was with the Nikon 80-400. The flowers were taken as a test of the built-in focus stacking. That is something like 30 shots stacked in Photoshop. I just had to focus on the leading edge and push the shutter. The camera did the rest.

G'Day John.

Very interesting insight and I can relate to humping lots of kit around.
Not really in the market for anything new but always value such information for future consideration.
Great shots BTW.

I haven't been out for several weeks as we are in the middle of peak holiday season (bloody tourists!) and Madame Wombat cracked three ribs so I'm her carer.........I told he the 'new' horse wasn't ready for jumps!
Would she listen? Of course not.

Stunning pictures....

Thank you. I appreciate you saying so. As people (mostly nonphotographers) tell me. I really have a good camera. ;)

That is a super camera John and super images there too. But I am afraid it is out of my budget. I am awaiting Nikon's D5700, supposedly to be released this year. Currently using a D5500 and have a D5100 as well.

Thanks for the though John.
The world's worst patient!!!!!
Sofie is certainly returning to normal, I'm getting the usual round of orders, but I am keeping her well away from her horses.

You know what they say mate …….. you really can't ride a horse until you have fallen off a couple of times.

I must be a good rider then. I have fallen off the house every time I have ridden one. All three times! :biggrin-new: The last time the horse fell down too. Luckily, I was able to get out of the way of the horse. Last time I have been on a horse. I think God is trying to tell me something.

The 5000 series are good cameras. Nikon Rumors has stated that they think Nikon will come out with the D5500 replacement this year.
