View Full Version : Izumo class carrier Japan Navy

The Izumo and her sister ship Kaga replaced the two from the 1970s originating helicopter destroyers of the Shirane class, Shirane (DDH-143) and Kurama (DDH-144). Since its commissioning in 2015, the Izumo is the largest Japanese warship since World War II.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izumo-class_helicopter_destroyer

In December 2018, due to the increasing military presence of the Chinese Navy, the Japanese government decided to rebuild both helicopter carriers by 2020 into complete aircraft carriers, which will then carry the F35B and Osprey. After the conversion, both carriers will have an additional launch ramp for the F35B and will be further modernized.

In 2017, CIMOGT released its model of the smaller Hyuga helicopter carrier as Freeware. Legs Carrier classes have many similarities. I asked CIMOGT for permission to use his model as the basis for designing the much larger Izumo class and get his permission.

The most significant changes are the length and width of the ships, the elevators, the armament (even in an additional island at the stern), many changes to the ship's bridge and the ramp for the F35B after the conversion.

The models will of course be published as Freeware after completion for the FSX and contain a current version and the version after 2020 of the Izumo and the Kaga. In addition, various deck layouts are provided.

I would like to use the very frame-friendly aircraft models of Dino and its USS America, but did not receive his permission to do so on request. Thus, the images on which these aircraft are to be seen are still considered very preliminary (examples of a deck layout).

Here are the first pictures from SketchUp and ModelconverterX from the previous processing status.

Looks great, but will you put the lower part of the hull? With Waves activated in P3D ships without the hull below the waterline looks kind of "naked"... :D

Over 20 years ago, I visited one of the JMSDF Helicopter Cruisers (?) while I was working there.
It was fairly late in the evening and so long ago that I can't recall which one it was.
There were several there at the time.
At the time, their AEGIS cruisers were very new ships.

Nice pic .... but this is the "very little sister". It`s the ISE (DDH182). A carrier of the Hyuga class. :wavey: The Izumo class carriers are much bigger.

First test on sea.... the KAGA (DDH-184) in FSX (like she will look in 2020)

These models will come with the carriers if i get the permission to use the base models (USS_DDG_Arleigh_Burke_Class) i changed for these. Destroyers of the Kongo class and the Atago class. Will be all the class ships. 2 for the Atago class and 4 ships for the Kongo class.

On both ships there are little mistakes just now. Things to change.

A few new pictures of the bearers of the Izumo class. The configuration of the deck layout needs to be changed a bit, as unfortunately I could not use all the planned aircraft. For some, unfortunately, I did not get the consent, because they are occupied with other rights.
Nevertheless, my sincere thanks to Dino, whose F35 finds itself in the carrier model again.

Thanks for your hard work on this. Looks rather realistic even without the SH-60J model on deck. Just wonder that if the Isumos go without a ski-jump, you'll please offer a strictly flat top model w/ F-35s on board. Thanks!

I hope that during the next week the upload can be done.

I have the same problem. Namely I do some mods in Strike Fighters 2 with CombatAce and find sometimes I have to blot out an entire day to chase down bugs. I hope it would be OK please to try to port over the 3d models to Strike Fighters 2 - up to you and you will get full credit. Thanks!

Very nice carrier and destroyer packages. :encouragement: I flew out to the ship using Greg Pepper's HO3S-1 helo and as soon as I selected Izumo and one DD from the AICarriers menu my frame rates dropped to 6-7 FPS. Not a complaint about Klaus's ships, just an observation that I REALLY need to upgrade my system. Ships and planes in FSX have simply gotten too advanced and too detailed for an old rig like mine. I like carrier flying and it's hard to get aboard when your approach turns into a slide show.

Hello,
I have installed this wonderful Izumo Carrier;
I tried on my Gold FSX but the sim crash (sim1.dll) when I choose a position . I asked the author but he don't know Ai carriers , so can you help me please ?
I am not alone in this (http://www.pilote-virtuel.com/viewtopic.php?pid=970070#p970070)
Here what I made :
I have Ai carriers.net ; I put in the aircarriers.cfg file the following lines corresponding with the first conf of sim.cfg (JMSDF_Izumo_carrier folder)
[formation.8]
title=JMSDF_Izumo
unit.0=JMSDF_Izumo_carrier Izumo 183 offen F35OSP, 0, 0

first conf of sim.cfg
[fltsim.0]
title=JMSDF_Izumo_carrier Izumo 183 offen F35OSP
model=2020offen
texture=183offen

Result : the boat is displayed in AI ships window but my FSX crash (sim1.dll error) when I want to select a position then restart.
Note : For the other boats , my ai carriers works OK
I tried the boat as trafic with Ai boat compiler but it's the same error
Thanks so much for your help

Hello,
I have installed this wonderful Izumo Carrier;
I tried on my Gold FSX but the sim crash (sim1.dll) when I choose a position ......

perhaps you will find some informations for that question in here : https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?251917-Sim1-dll-FSX-Fatel-Error

and another information from a german board : https://board.vacc-sag.org/103/48054/page2/
(https://board.vacc-sag.org/103/48054/page2/)
another sugestion : get ModelConverterX (freeware) an try to load the .mdl file from my carriers there. If that will be done without mistakes ( no missing textures and so on... (shown in the screen under the visible model in converter as red marked entrys)) then the mistake would probably be in your sim1.dll (defect) as shown in links above.

if all this will not be the reason you will find many other information with google : https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=sim1.dll

Thanks Klaus,
-I have replaced the sim1.dll by a new one (from my backup FSX folder) ==> always the same error with AI carriers while with other carrier (Foch , …. ) it's OK ,
-MCX : all models are OK (perhaps long to load : 13 s) ,
Perhaps there is an error for init.0 definition of
aircarriers.cfg file i added ?
[formation.8]
title=JMSDF_Izumo
unit.0=JMSDF_Izumo_carrier Izumo 183 offen F35OSP, 0, 0
Can anyone tell me if the syntax is correct ?
Thanks for your responses

Hi Folks

at first a big "Thank you" to the ship builder klnwak to offer the ships for free!

But unfortunatly I´ve made the same experience as FLYTITI. I´am using the SWS fleet placer (also ai carriers is installed) ...
I can choose the formation, it´s position, course and speed... when I push the button for placing the formation my FSX Gold (with with updates - everything is fine...) stops ...and my system likes to restart it after the crash.

Because i have integrated really a lot of ships in the fleet placer and in ai carriers in the past - in all - really all - cases without any problems (including ships from klnowak - the german frigates...) therefore I´am assuming a slit eyed bug in this japanese beauties...

Any ideas ???... My FSX is running stable and `I do not like to change a running system.....

Hi ,
I tried all the conf , I have 3 behaviours ,
- I managed to display one conf

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=69231&stc=1

- or I have (object failed) :
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/attachment.php?attachmentid=69232&stc=1

- For the other , I have a FSX crash as I said

Perhaps it's very long to load the textures and there is a time out in sim1.dll ?
when I load a model in MCX , It takes 13 or 15 s to load but 10 s for the conf that works

hmmnnnn…. I just realized you used my Arleigh Burke class USS Bainbridge model as base for your Atago class....That would be okay if you credited me as it is stated in my copyright, but you neither asked nor credited me and that is not okay. Just adding some elements to the model does not make it your creation.

Absolutly right,

bag your pardon Henrik. I just look into the readme and must say i forgot it completly.

So i will ask for your permission now (just to late i now....) for using and changing your models. If you could not give your permission ( what will be ok...) then i will ask to delete the models from here. Even this is the only place i load them to a library.

Hi Klaus,
You are welcome to use, but if you do an update please include the crédits. I think it might be worthwhile doing an update because there is a performance issue for some of the models. The mdl files have grown very big including many detailed elements, but beyond that, maybe there could also be an issue in the way the models were recompiled with elements done in different design tools.
Best regards
Henrik

Bag your parden for long time to answer. I`m not at home for the last time.

Will have a look for that update in future after ending some new carriers like the USS John F.Kennedy (CV-67) (need a permission to give it to everyone. Model is nearly ready), an the three LPH-4 Hornet (http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/11/1104.htm) (ex CV-21), LPH-5 Princeton (http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/11/1105.htm) (ex CV-37) and LPH-8 Valley Forge (http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/11/1108.htm) (CV-45). All modeling on these models is done... some textures to do for all different helicopter on deck. These models will come with different configuration (bridge, arming, helicopters) from timeline 1957-1970 (past Korea till Vietnam war period).

Will show some pictures in the near future when home back again.

Ok,here the aicarriers.cfg example:

[formation.XX]
title=JMSDF_Izumo_carrier Izumo 183 offen F35OSP
unit.0=
unit.1=
unit.2=

What to write for the units?

Zsolt

TARPSBird
July 26th, 2022, 22:23
Zsolt, you just need to enter the sim.cfg name of the Izumo version you want as the "unit.0" line in the aicarriers.cfg file. The "title=" line is free text for you to call the formation any name you want, like "Izumo Task Group" or what I have in the example below:

[formation.XX]
title=JS Izumo with F-35 and Osprey
unit.0=JMSDF_Izumo_carrier Izumo 183 offen F35OSP, 0,0
unit.1=
unit.2=

The "0,0" (zero, zero) at the end of the "unit.0" line makes Izumo the reference point of the formation. Any Japanese destroyers or other ships you want to add as unit.1, unit.2, etc. will be positioned off her. Hope this helps you.
