Fantastic plane!

Although Rob says that this current release is for P3D only, I'm flying it just fine in P3Dv2.5 - so I don't see any reason it wouldn't work in FSX.

Either way an FSX version release in imminent.

Just started playing with this machine. It is truly remarkable work. The rendering in P3D V4.4 is spectacular. Thanks Rob for the great work.

Although its a very straightforward process in Blender using the beautiful "Blender to FSX/P3D" program by Manochvarma Raman,
actually getting the aircraft to handle as it does in P3D is a real challenge also the lights need sorting out, including the VC lighting, so much better in P3D!
plus a few other things, shouldn't take too long.

Thanks in advance, Rob - I'm so massively stoked about this upcoming (for FSX) release. The P3D pics look tantalizing, and it looks like you've stepped up your skills in the VC.

A wonderful subject, often overlooked by the myriad "followers" all doing BoB / WWII era Spitfires. Good on you for taking this (to my view) much lovelier, polished, evolved mark of the family.

I'm hoping Mr. Peter Watkins will dip a brush or two for this one. The lovely non-TF.77 "standard" scheme was a gorgeous one, and would look lovely on your model, I'm sure.

Thanks for a great model. On the RN/FAA side of my hangar, your Sea Hawk, your Scimitar, are (and this will be) my fave "Richardson Rides".

Kudos, kind sir.

OK Guys, 10 paints now uploaded to Flightsim.com. I have broken with my usual stance on fictional paints, as Rob had received emails from a few French simmers asking for a Aeronavale paint. I thought OK what the hell! I have also done a Royal Canadian Navy fictional paint. I don't feel too guilty as both Nations operated earlier mrk Seafires! To compound my crimes I am working on a Reno Racer paint(purely for my own use M'Lud!).

Can I make a minor request for any new paints? Don't really care about the color or emblems or numbering but I need a texture that is no larger than about 15MB in size. The ones that are 30MB+ cause a CTD on my system. This also happened with the Cougar until someone created a couple of repaints that were smaller in size. As a quick test I used a texture folder from the Scrub Seafire and got no CTD but also a totally black aircraft, which is normal.

Thanks to Rob for this aircraft and to all of the repaint specialists.

December 12th, 2018, 21:44
Maybe im missing something, but im not sure why texture size should cause CTD's, are you sure thats the culprit. 30MB texture's unzipped ( around 8-10 zipped ) are pretty standard these days.

Yeah, I don't understand it either. When I first tried the original texture and after highlighting the aircraft and selecting "details: the aircraft appears kind of a green non-textured aircraft then ctds.I'll post a screenshot.

It looks like it appears in just a primer coat of paint...then about 5 seconds later it CTDs.

I'm not really sure about it but could be linked to a limitation with your video card ?
A 30 Mb repaint might weight a bit more once uncompressed and stored in the video memory... but it's just a guess.
Technically, the same should happen with any other HD repaint for any plane.
Anyways, green or faulty textures on the screen could indicate a memory problem. The CTD might be a consequence of the video card running out of memory.
Which video card do you use, and what is your video driver version?

NVidia Ge Force 6100 and whatever the latest driver is from a few years ago. It is definitely my computer and not the fault of the paint or aircraft.

I also tried turning settings way down to minimum , as I did with Rob's Cougar, with no luck. I was just looking at the F-9 Cougar and the texture(s) I have for it are 54MB in size but Rob's original dark blue paint was 140MB.

Hey Mr. Zippy,

What you're describing does sound like a memory issue with your Video card. What I've done in situations like that in the past is to simply re-scale all the images down to a size my card would find more manageable. To do that, I've used a freeware application named "Orenador texture converter" - it was made by a fan of an FPS game (can't recall which one) but it works fine for anything. The nice part, is you can batch convert the contents of an entire texture folder to the settings you want in one go - instead of having to open every single texture in DXTBMP or something like that. I can't remember where I found it - but a quick google should do the trick.

Hi there. The texture file is 31MB. Most of my texture files are about 30MB. The issue is that the main texture file size is 4096 x 4096 and I always save as DXT5 otherwise the file size shoots up to 80MB plus. The only other way is to reduce the texture size(and quality!) to 2048 x 2048! Hopefully you can get hold of the program "Orenador texture converter".

Hello,

First, a big thanks to PW for a fantastic bunch of paints. The RCN one is just delightful, and likely the one that gets the most flying time, with VP441 close behind.

A small question. Every time I land the Seafire on any carrier, whether a correct period Laz's HMS Ocean, or more modern Flying Station Vics, I get a single-tone "ding" sound, the default MS windows "error" / "warning" sound.

I've tried different sound sets (I was using the RealAir Spit pack), even tried it silent ("Q") and it still does it. I've never seen any plane do this before.

Any ideas?

thx,

robcarrich

Hello Alain,
Just edit out or remove these highlighted sections in the aircraft cfg.file
There are in fact two visible rockets for each entry making up the eight rockets visible in sim.

hello Rob,

Thank you for your reply!
However I had already tried this deletion in the aircraft file, but there is still the rocket supports as soon as the lights start!
Is it possible to make them disappear?

Alain, you will just have to use the switches on the panel, for now, to control visibility of rockets and tanks.
I'll change that when I next update the aircraft.

alain0568

hello Rob,

Thank you for your reply!

But for me, these rockets denature the beauty of the plane!

Thanks Rob - I forgot about the RFN gauge. When I began my latest reinstall of FSX and its attendant tools, I had issues with the RFN gauge and never finished implementing it in the various suitable aircraft. You "preinstalled it", which was awesome. For now, I'm disabling RFN until I get it sorted, so I just removed those sections from the panel.cfg, and now things are sorted for my setup. I'll add those sections back when I get RFN sorted.

BTW, I'm glad you did the weapons/tank options. Simple switches to toggle them, doesn't get much easier than that, so nothing to complain about from me on that score. Tanks are always on, and whenever I want an armed setup, I have that option, with the ability to return to the boat having "expended" the ordnance at the flick of another switch. Works for me! :)

Last question - I'm not going any contrails - I've tried a few different MET conditions, no contrails - maybe I'm not in the right conditions?

Nevertheless, I'm happy as a clam with a proper carrierborne bubble-canopy, FR.47. Will likely fly it for longer than the real ones did ... lol.

thanks,

dl
