View Full Version : Seaplane Tender Catapult Launch Problem

Hi All
I am having a lot of problems getting seaplanes to launch from a Busssard Class ST that I have been working on.
The usual problem is with the aircraft not sitting on the catapult, and actually sitting on the water under the ship, whereby the ship just passes over it. (I have seen this before and, thanks to bloodhawk23, this was solved by moving the start point further forward.)
I tried to fix this by mowing the start point to the middle of the ship or raising the start point with the unusual result of having the game start with the plane in mid air and stalling before it repeats the starting in mid air and stalling, then continually repeating this behaviour.

Perplexing:dizzy:

I have the Catapult Cfg file in the folder.

The ship cfg is shown below.

[fltsim.0]
title=SMS_BussardClassST
sim=SMS_BussardClassST
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

[flight_deck_section]
; this section defines the control points the
; AI (and LSO) use to steer towards the flight deck
width=5
length=80
takeoff_start=0.0,7.228,-5.994
takeoff_stop=0.0,7.228,44.919
landing_start=0,0,0
landing_touch_down=0,0,0
landing_stop=0,0,0

[platform.0]
; platforms are the actual surface that the planes
; land on. You can define as many platforms as you
; want by adding subsequent sections with increasing
; numbers. e.g. [platform.1], [platform.2] etc.
;
; vertices should be defined in model coordinates,
; and counter-clockwise order when viewed from above.
: REMEMBER, positive z is out the TAIL of the ship
; the shape may be concave or convex
; there may be from 3 to 20 vertices (limitation
; may go away later) and they must all be on the same
; plane.

vertex.0=-1.4,6.228,44.919
vertex.1=-1.4,6.228,-41.427
vertex.2=1.4,6.228,-41.427
vertex.3=1.4,6.228,44.919

[Dynamics]
pitch_wave_moment_scale = 1.5
bank_wave_moment_scale = 1.5
pitch_damp_moment_scale = 1
bank_damp_moment_scale = 1

Any ideas?
Cheers

Not really sure ?? but this may help:

Hi No Dice
Thanks for the reply.
I have these files. They are related to the actual aircraft.
I am just having trouble with the ship itself.
Cheers

Hi Stuart277,

What is the unit type in the DP file?

Hi B24 Guy
Thanks for the reply.
I have it set as a carrier.
Baldy found the main cause of the problem.
The' flightdeck' was very narrow (1.4m). When it was set to 4.4m I was able to launch an F1M2 Pete.
I am still having problems trying to launch a Bv138C1. I have set the aircraft up for injected catapult launch. The aircraft sits on the 'flightdeck' but it is 'stuck' in place. This possibly has something to do with the aircraft contact points, but I am not sure.
Cheers
Stuart

Hi Stu

you're right in thinking it's a contact point issue - the BV138 is a flying boat and the contact points give a natural waterline on the hull - this means it will probably sit deep on the catapault - if you adjust the contact points to sit on the catapault and enable a launch the a/c then sits too high on the water - you have to experiment to find what you feel is acceptable

hope this helps

Hi Baldy
Thanks for all your help on this.
I will have a look at the contact points.
I will upload the ship anyway.
Cheers
