View Full Version : Freeware alternative to FSTramp?

I just spent a couple hours trying to figure out if there is a workable alternative (freeware type) to FS Tramp. I am sure that program is great, but I balk at having to pay continual fees for a sim product. Am wanting a moving map type display. Something that I can display on a second monitor.

Plan G - http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/ Moving map, flight planner, connects to FS and follows in realtime.

Try Little Nav Map..... https://albar965.github.io/

Alternatively the Plan G problem may be the map provider - try checking some of the alternatives in File - Options - General - Map Provider. Open Street Map works for me....

That fixed it, thanks! Only problem I see is a lag time. Not sure if I can improve on that. Turned off a lot of options, but still lagging. NC

Sounds like server lag,if you are using the steam platform, that may be the cause.
We use JoinFS and I have not experienced any lag using it

Pete, FSTramp remains freeware and very functional as long as you don't go beyond V5.6 I believe. I also refused to support his arbitrary and ridiculous decision to start charging a yearly fee. However, I did go back to the last version he did before he made the final update and I believe if you go to the FSTramp website download page the freeware version is there. The one thing missing from that version is the ability to produce flight plans on the fly.

One note however: The only flight plan that will display in FSTramp is one made using the standard "Flightplanner" option in FSX or P3D.

Free alternatives

http://vfrflight.org/en/index.html

http://desktopaviator.tripod.com/Programs/Utility/MovingMap/ - Claims to be FS2002 2004 no mention of FSX but could work

SimLauncherX at Avsim by Martin Boelens has a map and lots of other funtionality built in.

Personally I use as above Plan-G but to get better maps you have to go to I think MapQuest and it's a pallaver installing them - did it once and cannot remember how to do it without referring to Plan-G forums.

BTW there is a free version of FSTramp (https://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=FSTrampFree&CatID=root&Go=Search) but it does not include flight planning, just a moving map.

In my case I use Plan-G (http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/) (resource hog) and/or littlenavmap (https://albar965.github.io/) (lightweight and super feature rich - support forum (https://www.avsim.com/forums/forum/780-little-navmap-little-navconnect-little-logbook-support-forum/)) for flight planning prior to launching, then once FS is started FSTramp is the go to.. Really like the F12 feature to show/hide.

I fell in love with LittleNavMap the very first time I've used it.

I experimented with Little Nav Map a couple days ago, but couldn't figure out how to use the moving map part....NC

Chief, Plan G is really easy to use and is great for making flight plans to download directly to your aircraft and also has a moving map feature. easier to explain if you were on our teamspeak
I'm lost(no pun intended) without it,LOL
