With heavy hearts, we have very sad news to report. We have received confirmation from his family that Ron ("Ickie") Larson passed away on December 23. We had hoped that two apparent logins since his last post on December 22nd were a sign that he was still out there, but in truth hope dimmed as time passed without hearing from him directly. Ron has been a constant companion to us all for many years as he worked tirelessly to keep the sim-outhouse up and running. He pretty much dedicated the last years of his life to our web site and watering hole here. RIP Ron. We will miss you. :(

Hard to find the words. The value of people like Ron is immeasurable (& irreplaceable), made even more so when we lose them. The epitome of "behind the scenes unsung hero"! ...one of those folks you never had to worry about being on the job. You might have to check on "lessor" folk to make sure they were present. Not Ron! I've been around SOH for a while and I could probably count on my fingers and toes the number of times that Ickie had to come out from behind his seeming anonymity only to reassure us weak kneed simmers that he really was on the job taking care of whatever the current issue was.

Ron contacted me directly via PM when I was accidentally banned last year to apologize directly. I replied that it was only an innocent mistake and that I had no ill feelings at all.
I wish I had conveyed more to him the feeling that he was so appreciated for maintaining this site in such a calm and professional manner.

I am very saddened that Ron passed on. Considering what he went through with that dreaded illness he is out of his misery. I have lost some family members to cancer (I'm sure that others here have too) and it is very difficult thing to see them go through. Ron put up a great battle to stay with us, however it appeared to have been getting very bad for him.


Thank you for your friendship Ron and RIP. I wish there could have been more time for you to be with us.

This is really sad news. As soon as he shared that his health had turned serious, there hasn't been a day that's passed, when I haven't thought about how he was doing.
There are several flightsim sites that I routinely check, but SOH is one of only 3 that I make sure to stop by at least once everyday.
Ickie seemed like a gentle soul that was always in the back ground, keeping the heart of SOH running smoothly.

His story really gets to me. I suffer with mental illness and the stigma associated with it. Have spent a long time in the hospital several times. Just as recently as the first part of January i was in the hospital. Doing better now. New medication and IOP-(Intensive Outpatient Program) really help. Go to "class" four days a week for half a day and they pick me up and bring me back home as i can't drive because of the medicine i take. Will greatly miss Ickie. RIP ,Scott
