"Mess At Midway Island - N1K2-J Georges - Medium USN"

Mission Details
---------------
Note that there are four versions of each of the missions that are included in the pack:

* Incoming A6M2 Zero squadrons
* Incoming A6M5 Zero squadrons
* Incoming Ki-43-IIb Oscar squadrons
* Incoming N1K2-J George squadrons

...as well as three difficulty levels for each of the missions in the pack:

* Easy Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Ace
Allied Aircraft Aggression = High
Allied Ship Skill = Ace
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Ace
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

* Medium Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Veteran
Allied Aircraft Aggression = Average
Allied Ship Skill = Veteran
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Veteran
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

* Hard Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Rookie
Allied Aircraft Aggression = Low
Allied Ship Skill = Novice
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Novice
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

Note that all of the enemy aircraft have a skill level of "Ace", and an aggression level of "High". Only the Allied skill and aggression levels vary in each of the three difficulty levels for each of the missions.

Also, note that these missions are DESIGNED TO BE PLAYED with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 configured for an "Overall Realism" of 100% (Hard)... including "Display Indicated Airspeed" enabled, "Auto-Rudder" (Auto Coordination) disabled, and "Auto-Mixture" (Fuel Mixture) disabled.

The "Hard" difficulty level missions will be quite a challenge when they are played configured with these settings... even for the best and most experienced Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 aces and pilots!

Lastly, note that you can select the aircraft that you wish to use in each mission BEFORE ACTUALLY STARTING the missions (hence the missions can be quite versatile for competition use).

Installation
------------
To install, simply unzip the directories and files contained in the archive to the root of your "Combat Flight Simulator 2" directory on your hard drive (in verbatim).

ENJOY and HAVE FUN!

Just a wondering, shouldn't this thread be in the "CFS2 General Discussion" subforum?

RichNagel,

All uploads go into the Warbirds Library forum, typically I take them and move them to the CFS2 forum. Sometimes I'm a little slow...but I don't have an excuse the rest of the time. :p87:

Excellent work on this, well done!

P.S. A few little weird obscure ways to have some more fun with these missions:

Fun #1) Start one of the easier missions (the Allied AI have a better chance of shooting all of the enemies down by themselves in the easier versions of the missions).

Install and use the addon module "CFO Weather v7.5.7" ( http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/Cfsops/Modules/cfo_weather/Cfo_Weather_75.htm ) so that you can "warp" to a distant airfield while actually in the mission (so that the enemy AI can't shoot at you and destroy your aircraft).

Go into "Chase" view (the "C" key for Flight Simulator controls).

Use the "TAB" key (Flight Simulator controls) to cycle through the chase views of the various AI aircraft, ships, vehicles, and static objects in the mission.

Pan around and move in and out with your joystick HAT, zoom in and out with the "+" and "-" keys, and enjoy a nice "high action" war movie! :)

Fun #2) Backup your "Multiplayer.mis" file in the "CFS2" directory on your hard drive. Then copy one of the ".MIS" mission files and matching ".DYN" dynamic files (located in the "CFS2\MISSIONS" directory on your hard drive) to the file "Multiplayer.mis" and "Multiplayer.dyn".

Copy the "Multiplayer.mis" and "Multiplayer.dyn" files to your main "CFS2" directory on your hard drive (you DID back up the original "Multiplayer.mis" file, RIGHT?).

Start a new "Free For All" TCP/IP multiplayer game, and enjoy all of the fighting. Hehe, *ALL* of the aircraft, ships, and vehicles in the game are enemies with each other... AND YOU as well LOL! :)

After all of the carnage, ensure that you RESTORE your ORIGINAL "Multiplayer.mis" file, as well as deleting the "Multiplayer.dyn" file in your main "CFS2" directory. (As mentioned above, you DID back up the original "Multiplayer.mis" file, RIGHT?)

Fun #3) Copy one of the ".MIS" mission files and matching ".DYN" dynamic files (located in the "CFS2\MISSIONS" directory on your hard drive) to the file "QC.mis" and "QC.dyn".

Copy the "QC.mis" and "QC.dyn" files to your main "CFS2" directory on your hard drive.

Start a new "Quick Combat" game. Hehe, you can't really "win" the mission, but after all of the actual mission's enemies are shot down, it's fun watching the Allied aircraft, ships, and vehicles shoot down each newly spawned "Quick Combat" enemy :)

Afterwards, simply delete the "QC.mis" and "QC.dyn" files in your main "CFS2" directory on your hard drive.

P.P.S. Yeah, I KNOW... I'm EASILY AMUSED LOL! :)

BTW, I've got a fairly big update for the mission pack in the works. Watch this space...

I just uploaded a new version of my mission pack. I THINK that the link in the first post of this message thread will take you to the download page for the new version... not sure though (I'm not sure how updated file uploads woek here at SOH).

Anyhow, here's the new readme for the ZIP (Mess_At_Midway_Island_Mission_Pack_v2.0.zip, or maybe the filename is Mess_At_Midway_Island_Mission_Pack.zip... I dunno):

"Mess At Midway Island - N1K2-J Georges - Easy USN"
"Mess At Midway Island - N1K2-J Georges - Medium USN"
"Mess At Midway Island - N1K2-J Georges - Hard USN"

Mission Details
---------------
Note that there are seven versions of each of the missions that are included in
the pack:

* Incoming A6M2 Zero enemy squadrons
* Incoming A6M5 Zero enemy squadrons
* Incoming B5N2 Kate enemy squadrons
* Incoming D3A1 Val enemy squadrons
* Incoming G4M2 Betty enemy squadrons
* Incoming Ki-43-IIb Oscar enemy squadrons
* Incoming N1K2-J George enemy squadrons

...as well as three difficulty levels for each of the missions in the pack:

* Easy Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Ace
Allied Aircraft Aggression = High
Allied Ship Skill = Ace
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Ace
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

* Medium Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Veteran
Allied Aircraft Aggression = Average
Allied Ship Skill = Veteran
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Veteran
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

* Hard Difficulty Missions

Allied Aircraft Skill = Rookie
Allied Aircraft Aggression = Low
Allied Ship Skill = Novice
Allied Ship Aggression = N/A
Allied Vehicle Skill = Novice
Allied Vehicle Aggression = N/A

Note that all of the enemy aircraft have a skill level of "Ace", and an
aggression level of "High". Only the Allied skill and aggression levels vary in
each of the three difficulty levels for each of the missions.

Also, note that these missions are DESIGNED TO BE PLAYED with Microsoft Combat
Flight Simulator 2 configured for an "Overall Realism" of 100% (Hard)...
including "Display Indicated Airspeed" enabled, "Auto-Rudder" (Auto
Coordination) and "Auto-Mixture" (Fuel Mixture) disabled, as well as selecting
"Hard" in the mission "Difficulty Level" dropdown box that is located on the
"Single Mission" selection screen.

The "Medium" difficulty level missions will be QUITE A CHALLENGE when they are
played configured with these settings, while the "Hard" difficulty level
missions will be NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE... even for the BEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 aces and pilots!

NOTE that the "Hard" difficulty level missions will be UNWINNABLE for ALMOST
ALL Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 pilots (when the game is configured for
an "Overall Realism" of 100%)! This is how the "Hard" difficulty level missions
have been designed, as your goal is to simply see how far you can advance
within those missions, and how many kills that you can attain.

Lastly, note that you can select the aircraft that you wish to use in each
mission BEFORE ACTUALLY STARTING the missions (hence the missions can be quite
versatile for competition use).

Installation
------------
To install, simply unzip the directories and files contained in the archive to
the root of your "Combat Flight Simulator 2" directory on your hard drive (in
verbatim).

To upgrade the pack from any previous versions, unzip the directories and files
contained in the archive to the root of your "Combat Flight Simulator 2"
directory on your hard drive (in verbatim), overwriting any existing files on
your hard drive.

Suggested Sound Volume Settings
-------------------------------
These missions can be QUITE LOUD due to all of the intense action that is
unfolding all around your aircraft.

I would suggest configuring the game's "Sound Volume" sliders located on the
"Settings" configuration screen with the following volume settings:

"Cockpit" Volume Slider = 50%
"Effects" Volume Slider = 50%
"Communications" Volume Slider = 100%
"Engine" Volume Slider = 70%

...in order to balance the overall volume mix of the game when playing these
missions (so that you can actually hear the various pilot radio messages and
such).

Note that the "Effects" volume slider is the setting that controls most of the
sound volumes in the game that is generated by almost everything that you hear
outside of your cockpit.

Version History
---------------
v1.0 - First Release.
(September 13, 2016)

v2.0 - Adjusted several of the triggers and events in all of
(September 19, 2016) the the missions to fix a few minor bugs contained in
the missions.
- Added additional missions with incoming B5N2 Kate enemy
squadrons, incoming D3A1 Val enemy squadrons, and
incoming G4M2 Betty enemy squadrons.
- Added various radio communication sound effects and
in-game text messages to notify the player when they
have downed an enemy aircraft.
- Added various radio communication sound effects and
in-game text messages to notify the player when an
entire enemy squadron has been destroyed (the Aoshima
squadron, the Kobayashi squadron, and the Fujisawa
squadron).
- Added a text message that is displayed when the Agate
squadron is cleared for takeoff from the airfield.
- Added a radio communication sound effect and a text
message that is heard and displayed when the the player
(the TumbleWeeds squadron) is cleared for takeoff from
the airfield.
- Added triggers and events in all of the missions to
prevent the player (the TumbleWeeds squadron) from
beginning their departure before being cleared for
takeoff from the airfield (i.e. if the player begins
their departure BEFORE the Agate squadron is rolling
down the runway). Note that these triggers and events
were added to all of the missions due to the simple
fact that there was some Ensign (by the callsign of
"DocSmity") who kept trying to taxi around the Agate
squadron BEFORE he was actually cleared for takeoff
LOL! This addition to all of the missions puts a stop
to that TOTALLY UNSAFE practice <grin> :)
- Anything else that I may have forgotten about!

ENJOY and HAVE FUN!
