This is one that is on Bill Womack's list to do, however in the meantime I have decided to do something with the default. I have a lot of Airports already done for Maine and my general boredom has pushed me to go back and fly some of them for a bit of fun. Right now the ground texture and autogen is all I have. I'm working on building the hangars and outlying houses and other buildings so it will be a bit before it's complete.

A few Hangars. . .most are the same basic size and shape, so it makes it a bit simpler when you can do one basic hangar and then add or subtract from the others.

Dick,

That looks better than what I flew into yesterday. Even with Orbx loaded, it was a barren field, not a single building anywhere.

This is an old FSX scenery and it works fine in Prepar3D v3.5...............

Thanks Nigel. . .sometimes these scenery projects just fall right in line and other times I wonder (about half-way in) why I bothered, lol.

Really looking great, Ed! I like when the base of the scenery has such an accurate, life-like, rich color to the grass/terrain of the field (it really helps add to the immersion/level of realism). Fantastic job with the scenery objects/textures as well - all of those small modeled details always add to the immersion of creating the effect of a living/active airfield as well. Will be staying tuned!

Yea, it's a nice little grass strip. . .a kind of "placeholder" til Bill Womacks version is ready. I'm just wondering what differences I'll find when I finally get the latest land class from Orbx installed.

As others have said, great job on that hangar. It is very similar to ones I grew up with on our crop service airstrip..........built the hangars ourselves. Will be glad to see the finished product.

Ah, then you're familiar with the world of small grass Airfields. They're the ones I enjoy flying to the most. . .each one has a character all it's own and they can sometimes be a bit tricky to get into and out of. . .but that's part of the fun.

I really thought that particular hangar was interesting with the little deck area cut into it. I can just imagine sitting there in the fall watching all manor of small aircraft coming in to land for a Fly-In. Just seems like a great way to spend a weekend.

I'm another who's looking forward to it. A lot of my FS9 time was spent at Leon Louis' airfields. Don't forget a barbecue.

Just finished installing the latest North America Land Class from Orbx and I have to say that after some concern that it might not match the ground texture from this project, it actually looks better than the original Global Basic textures. I won't have to do any color correction at all. Just a few more hangars. . .gotta figure out exactly what the hangar signs say so I can do some art for those. . .add some grass. . .(a BBQ grill for dhasdell_w/smoke, lol) and the boulders, wind sock and memorial plaque and I think that's it.

Final Shots. . .now comes the packaging, to be sure everything is there before I zip it up and upload it. . . .probably this evening some time. Currently this is FSX, daytime/Spring-Summer only. The seasonal textures (Fall/Winter & Hard Winter) will be added later and the P3D version will be added by this weekend as I just have to have the time to recompile the objects using the P3D SDK. You can certainly try installing in P3D to see if it's compatible but with so many variations of that sim there's bound to some that won't work.

Nice field Falcon! Might consider it as a new test facility (there's a BBQ you see). :D

falcon409
August 2nd, 2016, 09:54
Well, I can report that it works quite well in P3D_V3.3 with the single exception of the BBQ-Grill. I see smoke and a shadow, but no grill and no men attending to the burgers and dogs, lol. I'll recompile that object and that should fix it. No obvious frame rate hits despite not being fully compiled for the Sim. Your results may vary of course.
