Hello, All-
I'm getting started with an attempt at a WW1 Western Front install, and I could use a little enlightenment. I've already pretty much scrounged up every decent looking aircraft available, and picked up all kinds of goodies from aerocrate.com, here and other sites.

First, I figured that some basics for a WW1 install shouldn't be that much different than a WW2 ETO install. So, my first question is about Rami's Europe Scenery Install Guide. I have three saved- one just says 'Europe Scenery Install Guide', one says '2014', and one says 'Rhumba Edition'. Which one should I follow, and to what extent? After all, not only do I not need all the airfields, they wouldn't be bases with paved runways, for the most part...

Speaking of airfields, the Aerocrate scenery provides 14 bases- anyone have any suggestions where more might be found? I thought that a few Battle of Britain bases would be a nice addition, for use as bases against Zeppelin or Gotha raids, etc. Which BoB set would work best for adding grass airfields in SE England?

When I edit my country.cfg file, does it matter in what order I add the countries?

Anything else that anyone might think of would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance! -Mike Z.

Well now you're opening a can of worms.

To start with, the Aerocrate aircraft are probably the best for CFS2. There are others, some are older, some newer. These are frame rate frendly and have breaking parts.

Here are a few others that are are great for WWI.

Allen's Hanriot HD 1

If you use just the Aerocrate scenery then there isn't much else you need. If you want more then look here...

Some notes about the scenery. Rami's install guide is for WWII europe. You can use Rhumba's mesh but you may have issues. Also my scenery will not look right in this. I have plans to redo them, I just haven't got back to it yet. See my other posts on this

Having said that I do have some newer scenery that expands on my first set. it adds around 30 more airfields to the Western Front. Let me know and I can send it to you.

I have plans to do the British fields. I have started some of them. I wouldn't use BOB airfields. Many were not even made before 1920.

Thats all I can think of for right now. Let me know if you have questions on any of my stuff. Otherwise, have fun.

'til Later,
John

Thank you very much, John-

Thanks for the heads-up on the ships- I've already picked up Allen's planes, and cruised around the freeflightsite, and I agree with you that the Aerocrate planes are nice- I've found that the planes of P.J.Walker are well done as well. Regarding mesh, if I don't use Rhumbflappy's, it looks like I still have options... any opinions? And texture sets?

I would definitely be interested in more airfields- shall I PM you with my e-mail address?

Thanks Again- Mike Z.

I have more suggestions in my original scenery set. There are textures that work well with it.

Don't get me wrong. It will work with Rami's install and Rhumba's mesh. I have a setup for it. Its just all of my current work will not look right. Nor will the Aerocrate's. You will have roads and rivers going all through it.

I have a few things to finish up for the Vietnam project then I plan on re-visiting my WWI Scenery. I'll keep you posted on that part.
