Thank you for these explanations and previews, Dimus! I'm much more interested in purchasing this now when it's released tomorrow.

I posted a bunch of screens on the official forums, including a couple that have good views of the gun tape on the tropical version. It's done really well, you can see the barrels and it's authentic for the actual service technique. I'd repost here, but with their forum software you can blow the pictures up. It's absolutely fine and not worth complaining about. This isn't flashlight-for-cannon stuff here. :) Pics on official forum Sample:

Dimus replied to a thread Shrike to release F-86 in MSFS (FS2020)
As normally this will be out tomorrow, just a few words as I was briefly involved in testing. A great effort has been made in the FDE for this one within the limits of MSFS. Yes you will get the "nose up and wait" in both take off and landing and you will get the slow response of the engine, using airbrakes to control speed and keeping it at abt 80% all through the approach. It is a joy to fly and much reminded me of the FSX/P3D version that I also tested extensively. Many fonts and markings you see in the previews are indeed incorrect. Some USAF ones have been corrected in the release, as much as possible, and you will be getting ones like these with the Amarillo or NAA fonts in the lettering and better insignias:

Anybody have a guess on how many mesh files are created? Right now it is taking about 60 seconds to create 2 mesh files. Slow boat to the PNG. I thinking that if it is about 5,000 files, then I am looking at a 41 hour run time. or did you reduce your columns and rows in the ers file by a factor of 10, say like 17920 reduced tp 1792. Steve is there a reason not to use Google Earth for the landclass tiles?

Now that they've mostly done away with College Road's crossing of the north/south runway, and they're now making much more use of the runway extension, it has been neat to see different aircraft types land/takeoff at Old Warden in recent years that I would have never thought would be possible in years past (back when the runway extension was only rarely used/rarely made available). In recent years, we've even seen C-47s, the PBY, P-47, Bristol Blenheim and Buchon operate in/out of Old Warden (of course in addition to the other warbirds which have been common over the years at Old Warden - Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mustangs, P-40, Corsair, etc.). In addition to The Shuttleworth Collection, Kennet Aviation is also located at Old Warden (east side of the airfield). They were responsible for...

For less than $20 US, that is a LOT of work put into an airfield! I'll probably pick this up next weekend, since I doubt I'll have much time for flying this weekend.

There have even been some world-class warbird restorations where they have gone to the lengths of adding that extra detail (in the case of US aircraft, original WWII manuals called for the use of 3M Scotch tape, specifically, to cover the ends of the gun barrels, as was done here on Fagen Fighters' P-38):

I think the real ones were actually covered with adhesive tape to avoid debris entering the barrels. The tape was torn after the first rounds were fired. I'm surprised that the barrels have even been allowed to be shown like they are, a good surprise in this case as we do not get a set of flashlights on the wings! :glee:

If referring to the RAAF example, it too has tape covering the ends of the cannons (being a Mk.Vc, it has different cannon fairings than those fitted to the Mk.Vb examples).

Yes, I know they were covered with tape, but it looks quite strange. However, the TROP (on your screenshot) version doesn't have a cover, right?

Personally, I think it's a neat and authentically-accurate way to skirt the marketplace no-weapons rule. The way these Spitfires are presented is as they would look ready for the next mission, with the cannons (and machine gun ports) taped over to prevent dust/dirt from entering them. Of course once you fired the cannons/machine guns in combat, the first rounds would simply tear straight through the tape (or fabric).
