Tips and hints
3.1
Frame-rate and settings in fsw95/fsw98
The scenery density in Norway98 varies. When airborne the
frame rate is acceptable for most users, but at, and near
some of the very dense modelled airports, slower
computers will have problems keeping up the frame rate at
an "operating" level.
For all users:
- turn ground scenery shadows off (earn 15-20% frame
rate)
- use the LOW/FAST setting in image quality/speed.
Especially the 3dfx graphics card will provide a smooth
and nice picture anyway, and you will therefore see no
difference using the HIGH/LOW setting, but you will
surely loose 15-20% frame-rate.
3.2 Other hints
- to see the total amount of mountains: use the VERY
DENSE setting in the scenery complexity
- use the NAV16, Bglview# or other programs to print/view
maps of the airport- and navaids locations. Then get your
old school atlas to determine where you are and where to
go.
- use textured water, low cloud-layers and 7-10-15 nm
visibility in winter-season to really experience the
winter-flights in Norway.
- fly in the DUSK and DAWN, to get close to a real-life
reproduction of the landscape. We have placed lots of
lights around to mark roads, airports and cities, they
are easier to discover in dusk and dawn.
- to investigate scenery details, fly at a low altitude,
3000 - 8000 ft amsl, there is not much to see from FL320
3.3 Known limitations
- when running the scenery with fs5.1 or fsw95, you may
experience that some buildings, runways or other objects
could disappear at the most detailed airports. Norway98
has been built for fsw98 with a 512 kb scenery buffer
(after installing the MS 1.1 patch). The earlier versions
are limited to 256 kb scenery buffer.
