Thread: Freeware Gems

  1. #101
Followed Motormouse lead (above) and went to this address:

    http://www.fsnordic.net/Files

Nobody seems to have mentioned the Maule or have I missed it somehow ?

Go to "The most downloaded" link and you will find a little jewel which is quite remarkable for 2003 (VC included !)...

This plane comes in six declinaisons which should please even the most difficult taste...

    Cheers,

    Fleurdelys

Small, impeccably modelled grass glider fields set in wonderfully done photo-real terrain. Truly a "Must" for the light-GA flyer!

    CYEE, Huronia
huronia.zip on Flightsim, huronia_cyee.zip on Avsim

A small, photo-real airport in Ontario. Not fancy, but solid. Absolutely perfect alone, even better with Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska.
Features a nice set of objects, custom ground textures, and seasonally changing features.

I can't seem to get the link right for Flightsim.com library.

I'd really like to have the glider field, it looks very good....any help appreciated...

    Low & slow

When you like low and slow, the Golden Age Simulations WACO Taperwing Package is definitely something for you.

This is an early package from the Golden Age team and does not yet fully meet the current standards from this team. However the package is definitely a gem for those who love low & slow and big beautiful engines!

Its available here in the download section:
    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.ph...fo&FileID=5985

A small fic can be found here:

    Enjoy,

He's been retired a few years, but anything by Bill Lyons.

Aeroplane Heaven has some neat freebies, I strongly recommend their Seafires and F9F Panther

Dave Eckart's Stearman and B-26 Marauder

And to top off the list, anything by Milton Shupe and his Beech 18 is the top aircraft in my hanger, free or payware.

    yet...

Just search at flightsim Kazunori Ito he has many models
The P61 is one of my favorites
the only floor with his models is that the fd's are jet engines
there are many repaints and a revised flight model here at the OH
search Henry for the flight dynamics

That's the problem with these threads, you always forget somebody who definitely doesn't deserve to be forgotten.

And the (C)FS community has a short memory as well. Does the name Corrado La Posta still say something? I still fly his wonderfull Fiat G.50 and Macchi MC.202 Folgore quite often.

Speaking about Italian aircrafts; Stephano's and Manuele's models are real gems as well and definitely on par with the top payware designers.

And of course the men from the Groundcrew Design Team! Their Heinkel He.111 is still a piece of art after all these years and their Bf110 (most of them still betas) are still the best around!

    Cheers,
    Huub

Yes but there is little or no value in saying "so-and-so" makes great models.
At some point somebody will feel insulted about being left out.
I think the aim was to pick out individually, freeware gems that shine brightest.

Now that you mention it, though, piglet's OV-10 is a long-time favourite, and is available here at SOH, with a couple of updates.
It has the funkiest nosegear suspension bob...

    Alpha Bleu Ciel

Their F8F Bearcat and Corsair are a little dated but still state of the art in my book and there are some very good skins around for both.

And that's the definition of hitting the nail on the head. I have a feeling that this list may be nearing maturity. After that, my next task will be to somehow collate the information and figure out a way to put it to good use. That will be a bit of a challenge!

Christian Haibock's Saab 105.....FsQuality publish(ed ?) it as payware for Fs9, but this freeware version ain't bad either,
and not available on either of the main download sites to my knowledge..(but I could be wrong..)

Now you tell me...just as I am about to leave - on my POSKY B777-200!
Installation is a bit of a multi-step chore...
However, the result is worthwhile: external detailing is as good as ever, a POSKY strong point.
But the showstopper is the VC, one of the best freeware I've ever come across.
Even if flying big tubes is not what you regularly do, you could park this on the ramp at your favourite airport, and watch the AI go by from that VC.
    A real gem.

    Tom,

maybe making it into a 'Freeware classics' Sub-forum? That would preserve it for prosperity. Maybe with separate threads for Scenery, mesh, tubes, GA, military, vintage, warbirds, etc.

ét Voila, a permanent reference for future newbies?

BTW, AWESOME thread, as relatively recent CFS2 convert, shows me some I missed, many thanks.
