    Freeware Heron's Nest 2.0 released

    Hi,

IBLUEYONDER / Bill Womack released a new version of the Heron's nest. It is great to see developers use PBR techniques on scenery objects.
The scenery looks absolutely gorgeous and is a profound demonstration of advanced scenery design techniques.

Aw, THIS looks great! Please go on with it and count me in for a download :-). hertzie

OK, downloaded and (un)installed it 5 times. Looks great, but your plane "hangs" 100ft above the ground and when you start to run it falls to the ground and crashes. Looked at the forums and discovered that this stuff gives more problems with FSX than flying fun. These guys must have spend hundreds of hours in designing it and then it's sad that the result is a huge disappointment for a simple flightsimmer. hertzie

Not sure if you run ORBX FTX Global Vector or EZDok, but you are describing a situation that may occur when either or both need to be updated.

ORBX FTX Vector Configuration Tool needs to be updated after you install any new scenery.
EZ2CA Configuration Tool may need to be run again as well.

On P3D , no previous versions of the Nest or EZCA intalled, it runs flawless. I run FTX golabal vector, but don't think it could be interfering at all. The only thing I see (or rather don't) is the lack of ground shadows of the aircraft. But that might be explainable, if the ground is an 3d object.

I am still with my opinion that this is a really exceptional piece of work.

I've run all of the previous versions in P3D as well. No issues with any of them, and I agree...exceptional.
IMO, all developers should be investing seriously in learning PBR, especially with 64 bit on the horizon.

An old friend, and a new one.... thank-you Alex, YoYo and Bill- what a lot of fun this is going to be! The An-2 is the best way to bring 12 of your good friends to Heron's Nest for the weekend... hands down .

    Hi,

Initially I had an issue with this version. It was caused by the fact that SODE didn't register my FSX (steam edition) After checking the SODE forum I found that (apparrently) Dovetail doesn't always use the same registry keys (or changed them)
Adding one key (install_path) to the registry solved the issue. (See the SODE forum for details.)
So I am back on Heron's nest en enjoining the scenery.

Thanks for this wonderful piece of freeware!

Just went back to the SODE forum and this describes the solution (for me):

Herzie, did you ask for help on the iBY forums? I'm always there to help out with any issues that crop up. In addition, there's an FAQ specifically for this version of the Heron's Nest that should solve just about any problem you encounter. I can't provide support on other forums - there's just not enough time in the day for it. If you'll pose any questions on the official support forum, you'll get help.

OMG, why didn't I think of that? The An-2 is a perfect match! I'm getting out my copy now to give it a try...

Looks awesome and was going to get it, but why do you have to have me register for an account at your sales website to download a freeware scenery?

So let me get this straight. I work for hundreds of hours on a scenery. I learn new techniques, try new technologies, all to make it the best it can be, but you have a problem telling me who you are before you download it for free? If that causes you distress, simply don't download it.

A thumb's up from me to iBlueyonder. I didn't really had a reason to fly to Maine, but now I suspect it will be a regular route.

Visited the island with a helicopter, no problems. Then tried to get the Comanche in there and managed to crash into the water on the other side, but the house seemed nice enough as I was cruising by it with a slightly worried look on my face.

Kudos to you I already said it looked awesome. You are a commercial site that until recently I had not heard of. I try now a days to be carefull on the internet with my personal information because I have plenty of spam coming into my email already. Not saying you would spam I just try to be careful. Again wonderful scenery and best of luck to you.

Just to be clear, anyone who downloads this product may indeed get one email every couple of months from us about new products. That's the point of trying to reach out and build a community, to have an open channel of communication between us and the people who enjoy what we do. In our opinion, telling you about something that you've demonstrated an interest in before isn't spam, it's just communicating. Most people on our list seem to agree, as we have very few opt-outs with our emails. That said, I don't want anyone to think we're trying to fool you. We actively seek channels that we can use to tell you about things we think will make your 'simming better.

I just wanted to express my thanks for this INCREDIBLE FREEWARE.... so here's my way of expressing my appreciation.

For those who want to FIND this gem, without loading 00ME in P3D.... start at KIWI-

Here's the overflight down the runway to give you landmarks.....

Then make a gentle right turn out of Runway 7 and work your way due South...

As you line up on a Southerly (roughly) heading look ahead and begin to marvel...

It's a lovely NE morn, and 300M is as high as I dare go.... yes, over the water it clears up a bit.... and there's a bit of sun....

    Short final.....

How else can you bring along 11 of your good friends and need only HALF the available runway....

A SHORT back-taxi....and we are chocked for the day....

Thank-you iBlueYonder... for your SUPERLATIVE CREATION! Thank-you YoYo for your fabulous paint for my beloved! Thank-you Alex for your amazing FDE in this unique aeroplane that has been a gift of the "true feel of flight"...... to this earthbound misfit, I.

    Carl

Your shots look amazing! Thanks for reminding me what a beauty that An-2 is.

Thank-you Sir! I hope they brought you some pleasure (be sure to open in a separate tab to see them at their full 4k). I know your island will bring me many hours of enjoyment and I deeply appreciate your generosity. I love your Orbx stuff for the PNW, and am hoping that there will be more in store for us to purchase....

    Best- C

If you enable buildings to "receive" shadows in P3D you will see the plane shadow on the ground.

An amazing scenery got even better!
