Aero Commander AC520 FSX Native Released

For you Aero Commander lovers who want something a little less "blue collar" than the "Hangar Queen", the AC520 is ready, shining, and not a threat to your Sunday best.

This is the second FSX native conversion of the Aero Commander series. More to come in due time.

I Downloaded it and saw some interesting effects in the 2D panel. It looks like the guages are not lining up with the background.

I fly this one by the VC, but my 2D also looks like the example above. STILL LOVE this plane!

My apologies Gentlemen; I failed to copy those changes from my sim setup to the upload package.

Here are 3 panel folder textures to correct the problem for those who already downloaded this.

Meanwhile, I am correcting the original upload now.

Adding this one to my Air Hauler 2 fleet! Thanks Milton!
Expect banging, belching and an occasional manly fart as you roar down the runway at full power. (I have found that the engine can make similar noises)

Thank you Milton very much for your outstanding work to make these planes for FSX and also P3D compatible

Thank you Toni. I'm really happy that people can still enjoy flying these aircraft. It makes the conversion work worthwhile. :-) And, these older models are tough conversions requiring more time than usual, and I'm not getting any younger. LOL

If there is continued interest I will proceed with the next in line, the AC560A(HC). I have kept that one dressed in original interior clothes, but she is a hot ride with geared props and the high compression engine. The panel is more advanced than the 520 as well.

The two bare metal textures in the 520 series may require a little more gloss/shine for some of your video setups. I have experimented trying to find a good balance between the painted and bare metal appearances. I decided to ramp up glossiness about 12% for a balance. You are welcome to try this model to see if you like it better. I first started out heavy and all the paint schemes looked awesome but the global environment reflections were a bit much, especially under the wings that carry a darker color than the top surface so I had to back off a lot to minimize those reflections.

Anyhow, if you wish to try this model against your video setup, you are welcome to. (Attached)

It also adds a fresnel ramp to the glass and that improves glass appearance IMO.

Appreciate any feedback on the differences you see.

    Milt,

Thanks again for bringing this up to FSX standards. I particularly like the "Flying Red Horse" scheme! My Dad used to fly in and out of the Libyan desert oil fields on a DC-3 charter operated by Mobil with the same markings.

    Craig

    Hi Craig :-)

    You are certainly welcome.

Wow! It would be nice to see a picture of that DC-3 in that scheme.

I'd love to see this as well. Thanks Milton and team for all the good work.

Thanks so much for this FSX model. I've had a fondness for Aero Commanders ever since I saw Bob Hoover at Abbotsford at an airshow waaay back in the sixties(Don't remember exactly which year, sorry). His show and the very loud Voodoo display(I was 7 or 8) are all I remember anymore.

    Thanks again,

    Lyle

    Thanks Milton

By all means, keep 'em coming! Your products have given me and many others hours of great satisfaction over the years. By the way, do you know which of your Twin Commander models came with the factory green and red trim colors on white background? I know I had this texture in a much earlier download and it was my favorite, but I can no longer find it among my files due to hard drive crashes, hardware replacements, and system updates. If I could figure out what file name contained this texture I would like very much to download it again.

Please disregard the question above. I found the texture I was asking about in the AC520 FSX update which was recently uploaded, and I have just downloaded it. Thanks again!

I have searched the interwebs high and low for many years but have come up empty-handed. There may be something in my collection of our old family slides, but unfortunately it would be a huge undertaking to sort through them all. I'll have to at some point though. Many fond memories in that old suitcase.

Not a photograph per se but there's an Ertl diecast model of the Mobil DC-3 for sale on Ebay. No shot of the model itself but the box art is shown in the ad:
    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Ertl-Diecast-...item1a291bacfe

I can sympathize with the 'suitcase'. I've been promising for years to scan the 3000+ slides dating back to the beginning of the 60's that I have taken.. the progress meter hasn't moved much...

Yes please I love all your models and I am so glad to see them getting a new youth.

Any chance for the Grumman family to get the same update ?
