    Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp bumper pack up for grabs!

    Uploaded here and available shortly.

    Created for all Twin engined aircraft powered by Twin Wasps.
    The soundsets are the culmination of almost 4 years continuous development for what is for many aviation enthusiasts one of aviation history's most iconic sounds.
    The package includes two distinct soundsets.

    FSX_PW R-1830 Twin_HD_3D Hybrid
    High Definition 3D - Stereo hybrid specifically designed for FSX Cone Sound. Of the 2 sets this soundset is particularly appropriate for external sound realism in FSX, with impressive performance during both spot view ground operations, Tower, and flyby modes. Emphasis has of course been given to replicating the wide, and complex sound spectrum made particularly famous by the Douglas Dc-3 and its derivatives.
    The internal sounds are a subtle combination of 3D and HD sounds created to replicate the many facets of throttle - pitch settings during engine operation.
    Though designed for FSX, a cfg.file for FS2004 is provided within the folder.

    FS2004_PW R-1830 Twin_HD
    This uses my usual traditional approach to sounds work with emphasis on high quality stereo FS9 performance.
    Both sets work in both sims - choose the one that suits you most or both!
    I wish to thank Milton Shupe, Tom Zimmerman, and Peter Ham for their invaluable contribution and feedback during the development of these sounds.

    greycap; wish I could say I did, Sir - maybe when I get to build something Griffon-powered, we'll get something sorted out. :-)

    Hallo Nigel,

    Really great work, i love that Twin Wasp sound.
    I just have converted massimo taccoli's CL-415 to native FSX format
    and have installed your wonderful 3D sound pack with a waterloop
    addition.
    My question, if i get massimo's permission to publish the native FSX
    CL-415, may i use your soundpack for it ?

    Cheers
    Ulrich

    Ulrich : Thank YOU, sir - we share a love for Twin Wasp music. :-)

    For the Canadair Cl-215 (also one of my favourite real life aircraft), you'll need a big, powerful pair of PW R-2800s to do the job properly - you might like to try out the sounds we have for Milton Shupe's awesome Lockheed Harpoon.

    Hmmm...so far I've only made it up to IIa (exterior model) in my workshop but XII is a possibilty.

    That's way into the future, though - for now we have a fleet of AVRO's to give the final Polish.

    Hey Nigel... where did you find that baby blue Spit?

    Anyway... always good to hear of "future projects". We're socked in at the moment here. IFR only. I'll be in touch.

    Hope your weather picks up there - can't have our test pilots in frozen socks!

    Willy; Nigel will probably end up nudged over a cliff, LOL.
    Yup; the Seafire would be a thumbs up there, Sir - must keep the Fleet Air Arm happy. :-)

    But I must get the AVRO birds out of the workshop - in any case, the Spit has been an ongoing, pleasurable backburner Project so far.

    Nigel- Can't say enough about your wonderful sounds. Thanks so much.

    Now turn up those speakers!

    I swapped out the new sound set for the one in the default fs9 DC-3 and got no sound at all. What am I doing wrong?

    Never mind. Got it now...forgot to rename the file.

    Thanks Moses03, feedback such as yours makes it all worthwhile, Sir. :-)

    Out of curiosity; have you tried Tower and Flyby passes yet in FSX?

    Pleased you're up and running, downwind - I deliberately named the sound files with a specific name - most folk don't realise that you can use as many sound folders for an aircraft as you like, using exactly the same logic as textures. So if you have for example 10 texture variants you could theoretically have 10 soundsets as well...if you're really into variety.

    It's really nothing more than a simple Aircraft cfg. file entry.

    EXAMPLE:

    You have 2 sound folders for 2 aircraft/texture or model variants.

    1. Default named; Sound
    2. Custom sound folder named: Sound.PW R-1830-FSX

    Your Aircraft cfg. file entries would look like this:

    [fltsim.0]
    title=Douglas DC-3
    sim=Douglas_DC3
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=1
    kb_checklists=Douglas_DC3_check
    kb_reference=Douglas_DC3_ref
    atc_id=N36644
    ui_manufacturer="Douglas"
    ui_type="DC-3"
    ui_variation="World Travel Airlines"
    ui_typerole="Twin Engine Prop"
    ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
    description="The Douglas DC-3 revolutionized air transportation and airline service during the 1930s and 1940s. It was a luxury airliner that boasted cabin heat and running water in its on-board lavatory. With the right balance of efficiency, range, speed, and payload, the DC-3 was the first aircraft to earn a profit for its owners just by carrying passengers. The hero of early airlines, a handful of DC-3s are still at work today."

    [fltsim.1]
    title=Douglas DC-3 Paint1
    sim=Douglas_DC3
    model=
    panel=
    sound=PW R-1830-FSX
    texture=2
    kb_checklists=Douglas_DC3_check
    kb_reference=Douglas_DC3_ref
    atc_id=N849EH
    ui_manufacturer="Douglas"
    ui_type="DC-3"
    ui_variation="Emerald Harbor Air"
    ui_typerole="Twin Engine Prop"
    ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"

    This can be particularly useful for Aircraft with different engine type variations - so you could run both Wright R-1820 and Pratt Whitney R-1830 sounds from the same aircraft folder.

    You could even go 1 step further - I have NO sound folders containing wav.files in any of my sims (3 FS9 and 1 FSX Sp-2). Instead, I keep ALL soundsets in a central 'Aircraft Sounds' directory folder on my computer. Each aircraft simply has 'sound' folders with sound.cfg alias files.

    e.g.

    [fltsim]
    alias=D:\fs-sounds\_PW R-1830-FSX-v5-1
