New FSX-Native Complex Aircraft: Antonov An-24RV

New high fidelity release. Still a work-in-progress / beta but probably more fully featured than some other final releases already.

    Antonov An-24RV

This is a work-in-progress conversion of Felis' formerly payware-now-freeware An-24 for X-Plane, with his permission.
For a flight manual, I am using the one included with Felis' XP model since it really is the same plane: http://felis-planes.com/an24rv/downloads/

    Link: http://avsimrus.com/f/fsx-aircrafts-...fsx-60076.html
That's the Avsimrus link as it's a more familiar website, but there is a slightly newer/fixed build already out there via their forums.....

Direct link to the zip file of the newer build:

Forum thread with route directly to...direct link...above (in Russian): https://www.avsim.su/forum/topic/142...4#entry3243824

It needs the freeware KLN90! http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/the-kln90b-for-fsx-prepar3d-in-beta.432845/

    High-resolution VC image: http://i.imgur.com/1d0eBPQ.png

Third-party liveries for the X-Plane version also work great for this one. All you have to do is flip the texture sheet vertically (upside down) and save as DDS DXT5, then do the usual folder creation and aliasing in the aircraft.cfg. Check Food Lovers Specials and Game Specials. Here's a link to an Interflug livery that looks fantastic in my FSX right now: http://avsimrus.com/f/x-plane-liveri...lis-34698.html

I also attached English-cockpit textures to this post! They are converted from Felis' model, ready for FSX! Put them into whatever livery folder you choose and overwrite the old ones.

Third throttle arm is for the APU engine. Yeah, it's weird. This aspect isn't functional in FSX as far as I can tell.

EDIT: Also see the bottom of my original post for English cockpit textures.

Glad to see you again! Sean.

    Thanks for the additional Info!

Thank you very much for the new links to the update.
I did read that the third throttle is for a jet booster?

SeanTK, do you have any tutorial pointers for this model or other ops flow reference materials/links?

I can write something up in the coming days if that's ok. I may have something posted for you by late Thursday...if not by Sunday afternoon at the latest.

    LATEST BUILD: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/4Hn6/dTsDmN1Fk

Update to aircraft.cfg of latest build: see post #174 by Oleg-N on this page, but I'm not sure if the latest build link above actually has this already in it: http://www.avsim.su/forum/topic/1423...-24-fsx/page-9

I believe the old FS9 An-24 could provide us a good operational procedures. It had english documentation and was quite complex at its time.

Any idea about a paint kit ?, hard to figure out if there is one because everything is in Russian . Tried to follow the forum but LOL that is pretty difficult

I don't know of one. You may want to contact Felis as it's his exterior model from X-Plane, and the X-Plane liveries work just fine (obviously) with the FSX conversion (as long as you flip textures, save as DDS at a compression you prefer, and do all the folder and config file manipulation).

Well Matt, That design is Soviet or Ukrainian (Antonov is based in Kiev). Felis for example is Ukrainian.
Nowadays, the worst thing you can say to an Ukrainian is calling it Russian. That was only an example of never use Russia as a synonym of Soviet Union (Russia is not communist for example, surprisingly, a lot of peope think that Putin is communist). That's all.

I found it yesterday. It's here, on Avsimrus.
An easy peasy. Only 3 files. Very good maped IMHO.

If you install Google Chrome and select the original page of the forum, it will translate the whole page into a language of your choice.

Hahahah. Welcome to the world of the non-native english speakers.

A joke....What's the name of the people who only knows one language?
    Native english speakers.

Since this is based on Dzies's FS9 panel, the same (english) manual applies, which is btw, for these Ex-Soviet airplanes required reading when it comes to the navigation systems (including Felis's X-Plane version btw, it's included manuals are trash IMHO compared to this). I've uploaded it to google drive for you all: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz...WpLeEtrNWFfYTg
    Adonis/NSAdonis (depends on where).

Many thanks for the English VC textures, Sean. Those greatly simplify the learning experience, much like the old near and dear SD Yak-40 with its ability to swap between Cyrillic and English cockpit labels. Once you become accustomed to the English layout, it's easy and fun to switch back to the 'authentic' Cyrillic panel. This plane really is a masterpiece so far...can't wait to see how it progresses with subsequent beta builds....and repaints.

Now if only there were similar English VC textures for the PT Tu-154!....

    Updated aircraft.cfg:

    http://www.avsim.su/forum/index.php?...tach_id=507495

    No new overall builds yet.

    @mgchrist5,

You are very welcome. I hope they ease the learning process.

    @ce_zeta,

Thanks for the link to the paint kit. That's helpful, and it seems to be a pretty straightforward template. We have a lot of liveries already between what's included and a few more in the Avsim.su library, but I hope we see additional ones perhaps from members here.

Regarding documentation, what Adonis posted is probably going to be the most helpful, combined with the English-language cockpit textures. There are still some functionalities not in place quite yet, but we're getting there. Most significant is probably a lack of VOR to VOR capability even though the gauges are there, but as far as I can tell so far, the mode switches aren't active yet so you can't home to a course. You can still track NDBs, and you can also do ILS landings though. Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon I'll perhaps write-up more detail on how to get this plane running.

Good to know. I thought I was perhaps not configuring something correctly, as I could see the CDI fully deflecting and the DME reading the VOR, but I couldn't get the OBS to center the needle to track a specific course. I'm sure they'll get this sorted at some point. Either way, still a great bird.

Yep, same experience as far as I can tell so far, and through Google Translate, someone seems to have pointed it out on the Avsim.su thread.
Also, don't forget that the aircraft comes with an external load manager that modifies the weight in the aircraft.cfg. It's all in English so it should be fairly straightforward to use.

Additionally, you may want to go into the [lights] section of the aircraft.cfg and map the beacons to the nav lights type (type 3) so that they turn on with the nav lights switch (along with the nav lights), as there doesn't seem to be a dedicated beacons switch.

In the meantime, I'm glad that the X-Plane liveries work!

The new aircraft.cfg that I posted today (in a prior post above) does improve the brakes, ground handling, fuel flow, and air handling so it's closer to real-world values. The original release was too slow.
