    No Rain

    Hello. I tried to add some rain to my free flight recently but precipitation would not show up. The cloud cover changes, thunder and lightening appear, but no rain. Also tried to add some rain to a mission and that didn't work. All weather effects work except rain. Wonder if anyone ever came across this and can help me out? Thanks!

    Richdrag5,

    Have you tried dancing around your keyboard / joystick?

    Don't forget to shake a dead chicken over them. (Supermarket roasted works well, you have dinner afterwards!)

    Of course I tried dancing around the keyboard/joystick. A few years ago, I acquired an authentic aboriginal shaman holy staff for just this type of situation. Usually it works but not this time. I think the wife is making chicken for dinner tonight. I'll have to try that next. Unfortunately, it's going to be baked but you never know.

    Obviously you know your way around computers, so I'm afraid that I can't be much more help. Baked chicken may work better, you shouldn't have as many grease splatters to clean up.

    Richdrag5,

    Now that I had my fun, I will cease to be a wise*ss. I was told that in order to see rain, you need to go into your display settings and make sure they are high enough to support rain being displayed. (More than likely, they need to be maxed out)

    Aside from thunderstorms, if you want different types of cloud decks / rain, you need to go into advanced weather, which you can do in either Quick Combat or Free Flight.

    The second part of your question is that in order to include specific weather in missions, you need to create the weather in free flight, and then exit the sim after loading free flight or quick combat. The weather information will be stored in a specific area of the cfs2.cfg file. Then, you need to open up the mission file, and copy and paste the weather information from the cfs2.cfg file into the mission.

    Be aware that this is considered a manual edit of a mission, and should therefore be done only after no other changed to the mission are to be made.

    For more details about this, please download and review Cody Coyote's Mission Builder handbook: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=49&id=3972

    The relevant information can be found on page 131, in chapter 14.

    P.S. - Shadow Wolf 07 recommends that after the chicken, you rub that joystick with a dried monkey foot.

    Wouldn't you know it..... I just used the last of my dried monkey foot to fix a problem I was having last week with the transmission on my truck. It will take at least another two weeks to get more. Perhaps I could try and rub my cocker spaniel's foot on it and see what happens. Thanks for the replies. I have my sliders all at 100% and I've been using the advanced weather to try to find a solution. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work. I installed a fresh copy of CFS2 to see if rain works on an un-altered version and it worked. So, I must have removed or changed something along the way in the files that will not allow rain to appear. As I stated before, I can change the clouds and I have thunder and lightening when I select thunderstorm, it's just the rain aspect. That's a great tip about adding weather to the mission files. Thanks. Well, I'll keep trying to figure out something. Thanks again.

    Nothing more to add but it dose remind me that I do need to look into making fake rain. I think I could use the gMax Tick18 set up to make fake cloud and falling rain. The probs may be geting a good texture and the frame rates.

    Could it be as simple as in the CFS2 cfg file?

    [Weather]
    WindshieldPrecipitationEffects=1
    MinGustTime=10
    MaxGustTime=500
    MinGustRampSpeed=1
    MaxGustRampSpeed=200
    MinVarTime=5
    MaxVarTime=50
    MinVarRampSpeed=1
    MaxVarRampSpeed=75
    TurbulenceScale=1.000000
    DefaultVisibility=0
    WeatherServerAddress=fs2k.zone.com
    WeatherServerPort=80
