    Lodestar Enhancement and Fix for FS9 and FSX

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category FS 2004 Other

    Description: Lockheed Lodestar Model Replacement Updates and Aircraft.cfg Change

    This update replaces 6 model folders and instructs you to change the aircraft.cfg.

    The models changes are as follows:

    1) Automatically shut off the modeled gear taxi lights when gear is retracted
    2) Lightens the tint/opacity on the wind deflectors

    The aircraft.cfg changes remove the Light effects from the gear as the lights are modeled.

    This change corrects the gear lights being on and "hanging" when gear was retracted with taxi lights on after takeoff.

    TWA Lodestar other small issues.

    I feel very humble to even bring this to your notice Milton as you have created such a lovely model in the 'Lodestar'. I was motivated by the excellent F7F-3 Tigercat from your design stable I also believe. When you shut down the engines in the Lodestar the props appear to be still spinning a bit too higher rpm when they freeze to a stop. Straight after the engine noise seems to emit a kind of crash sound. Is there anything I can do to slow that rpm before freezing and removing the metal to metal crash like sound? The Tigercat is free of this and very realistic. Thanks so much for your contributions todate.

    Not a problem Sir.

    The Lodestar engines are quite different from the Tigercat and Harpoon engines. Unfortunately, I am without a Sound person right now and the sounds used are from the Harpoon. That is why they do not sync up well on shutdown as just one issue.

    The Lodestar engines also have a higher engine to prop ratio meaning that the prop is turning an even slower rpm than the engine with respect to the Harpoon for example. The props are also lighter. With that gearing, the lighter moi props, and a higher compression ratio, the props come to an abrupt stop.

    You might find some better sounds than what I have here; look for some Wright sounds for something a little different. The shutdown timing on the prop and engine is tune-able but I rely on my sound engineer to do that. The sounds we have are authentic P&W R-2800 including the shutdown sequence.

    Lodestar Enhancement and Fix for FS9 and FSX

    Thanks for the prompt reply Milton. I have now retired from the airline industry but way back in the early 70's I used to work on the DC-6b our Airforce operated. Although I was a civilian the aircraft came to us at Mangere International for maintenance. Being an engine technician at the time I well remember the Pratt R-2800 and the position of the most awkward sump plug that drained the crankcase and how all newbies were given the job of draining it during maintenance. No wonder they call it black gold they sure got the colour right! Would love to see you put your skill to work on a DC-7c someday, cheers.

    In reading your instructions:

    Open your aircraft.cfg file and find the Lights Section. Remove the 2 gear lights from the Lights section of the aircraft.cfg as follows:

    In the FSX aircraft.cfg, the lines are as follows:

    light.8 = 6, 3.100, -7.044, -4.480, fx_taxi_ju //left gear taxi light
    light.9 = 6, 3.100, 7.044, -4.480, fx_taxi_ju //right gear taxi light

    Now If I do that, don't I have to renumber the lights to read:

    [LIGHTS] // types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing, 6=Taxi, 7=Recognition, 8=Wing, 9=Logo, 10=Cabin

    light.1 = 3, -34.500, 0.000, 3.340, fx_navwhi //tail white nav
    light.2 = 3, -34.500, 0.000, 3.093, fx_navred //tail white nav
    light.3 = 3, -1.072, -32.710, 3.890, fx_navred //left wing
    light.4 = 3, -1.072, 32.710, 3.870, fx_navgre //right wing
    light.5 = 2, -6.151, 0.000, -1.010, fx_strobe //belly strobe
    light.6 = 1, -27.021, 0.000, 5.440, fx_beacon //tail beacon
    light.7 = 1, -6.200, 0.000, -3.440, fx_beacon //belly beacon
    //light.8 = 6, 3.100, -7.044, -4.480, fx_taxi_ju //left gear taxi light - - - - - - I hashed it out
    //light.9 = 6, 3.100, 7.044, -4.480, fx_taxi_ju //right gear taxi light - - - - - -Ditto
    light.10 = 7, 15.700, 0.000, 0.055, fx_taxi_ju //Nose Warning Light
    light.8 = 8, -0.367, -2.241, 4.186, fx_taxi_ju //left wing ice light - - - - - This is where I started changing the numbering starting with 8, 9 and so on and so on to the end.
    light.9 = 10, -14.904, 1.342, 2.870, fx_cabinlites //right side
    light.10 = 10, -5.761, 0.000, 3.028, fx_cabinlites
    light.11 = 10, -14.904, -1.342, 2.870, fx_cabinlites //left side
    light.12 = 4, 4.00, 0.00, 3.80, fx_vclight

    You can renumber them but you do not have to. There will work fine with missing entries as long as they are in sequence.
