    Dave,
I believe TR did one. You can look over on Simviation. It should be there.

I'm going to point to simviation but to a non TR aircraft. A FS2002 HU-16 Albatross Greg Pepper dosn't look too bad on the surface.

    http://simviation.com/1/download-fil...p&fileId=15346

Model Convert X say it is not multi LOD and the poygon count is 8,421 (not a bad count for FS2002 and only about 1,000 than the stock CFS2 B-24Ds main LOD). Has a working VC.

Read me seem to say that a rework or full rebuild should okay. It has mail addy so we can try to mail him/her and make sure that rework or full rebuild would be okay.

    Allen,
I am an old redneck from Mississippi...........what ever you just said is great with me, the only thing you said that I understand is if the rework is OK, I have never ran into a problem with that,
I will take care of that if you can decode the rest of what you said,

John, please help decode Allens message for me, LOL

Allen , please feel free to contact me direct dea14u@aol.com

The higher the poygon count the more power your PC need to display the model. Multi LOD means that the MDL has more than 1 model.

The game will change to a more simple model with less detail as the aircraft/object is farther away from the player. The player probly won't see that the model has changed unless they are looking right at it when it changes. By using LODs you can put many aircraft/object on the screen with out the game becoming a slide show.

F4F4 LODs. This a gif so you may need to click on it.

The rules I use for making aircraft are no single engine aircraft should be above 5,000 poygons for the full detail/close up model and each LOD should have a polygon count drop of 25% or more. For a fighter the LODs should be LOD 100 (full detail) 5,000 poygons, LOD 75 3,750 poygons, LOD 50 2,500 poygons, LOD 25, 1250 LOD 10 is vary small so it is around 200 to 150 poygons.

My normal aircraft poygon count is lower. The norm is 4,000+ poygons for LOD 100 (full detail), 3,000 poygons for LOD 75, 1,500 poygons for LOD 50, 500 poygons for LOD 25, 200 to 150 poygons for LOD 10.

Since the Read me seem to say editing is okay. I could port the model back into gMax and simplifie some things like the wheels. This would free up some ploygons that I could use to add a Pilot and Co-Pilot to the model.

The Greg Pepper HU-16 Read me say:
"Important: This is Freeware! It may not be used commercially in any way. This simulation is made for the sole purpose of entertainment for fellow flight simmers. It may NOT be sold or distributed on any disk or CD, regardless of whether the disk or CD is allegedly "non-profit". I reserve ALL rights to this model."

I couldn't explain it any plainer.

    Dave,

go about and get the perms. Allen can do the breaking parts and LODs to the model.

It probably didn't see many fighters. Although that NVA and VC AA was as bad as any fighter could be. It might be fun to do some of those Air America type missions.

Hey, Dave! You're certainly welcome to include the HU-16 in your project.

The rest of the email was personal, so not included

Are you going to be able to use the model "as is" or will it need an update?

I'm thinking it will need some work as the under wing floats are not textured. They are only material colored.

I was looking around for seeing how the wing pontoons looked and I ran across a updated verson that Greg Pepper did for FS2004. Wow much better looking over all.

Thats what I thought but since you mailed him/her I was just making sure.

I got the FS2004 model just about rebuild in gMax. I was able to dump 6,782 polyons from the model. That is just about 2 F4F-4 Wildcats at full detal. I removed the drop tanks, remove the yokes and other thing from the cockpit as they can't be see from the outside anyway. Changed to more basic props and did some more simple tires.

    Attachment 31946

I do need to know if you want breaking parts and damage texture logic to be used. I already have the model set up for breaking tail and wing and wing tips. I haven't got to messing with the texture yet as that may take some time to do.

    Starting on the first LOD....

    Allen,

Seems to me the way you have it set up will be great, Like John said they saw little action but will be great for the covert missions they carried out,
many of them under heavy ground fire.................

    You are the best sir,

    Thanks

    Making progress!

    Attachment 32198

Never got the LODs do come down much as I would like. LOD 25 is still 1,700+ polygons but since it won't be used in large numbers this should work out fine.

Things have slowed to a crawl as I now have "the crud". Right now I'm in sweatpants, sweatshirt and a coat, Still cold....

    Damn Allen,
I am sorry to hear about you being under the weather, please get well and take your time,
I am still working on the scenery for it and have quite a way to go.

Here is what Doctor Dave says: First thing in the morning 2 hot teas with honey, Noon
one 6 pack of beer, 3 o'clock one hot tea with one shot Rum, 5 o'clock another 6 pack
of beer...........6 o'clock one fried egg on toast...7 o'clock repeat above as required.

Works every time, please note that one should not drive a vehicle holding a hot tea
with honey.......can really make a hot mess in your lap.

I'm attaching a test version of the Hu-16B. Test verion dosen't have gauges, wake or drop tanks. Since I don't know what you all are going to do with it best to give you a test version that can be flown and used. If there are any probs let me know so I can fix them!

I can function but I can't even remember what smell is. I'm worred about the Flight Dynamics when used as a AI aircraft. I know it prob won't land as the CFS2 AI and landing is just messed up with any add-on aircraft.

    Allen,
I sent you an email thru the forums, You can contact me direct if you like at dea14u@aol.com

I do not see it being used as AI, they were used by the CIA Air America in Laos and Cambodia
not only for rescue and transport but for light bombing and gunning the boats that used the
Mekong river as a supply route. From what I have read they were followed up by CIA Helos
that would " clean up the mess".

You know it is still called tea, if you add a shot of Whiskey to it, cleans out the nose real fast.
