    Korea : F-86 "Section 8" Tacpacked

    Section 8 F-86 Sabre, is really a very good plane that I didn't know about,
    until a post for the Tacpacked version made me try it...

    The real reason for this post though, is to present the interactive "BattleGround X"
    (in this case X = Korea) that I'm building (in FSX Mission system) for the user to
    have the ability of Military Operations Flying in FSX.

    2+ years back when I flew FSX for the first time, not being able to do anything with
    military planes that I fly, apart of flying from Airport A to airport B, was very frustrating to me...
    But today the situation is totally different...
    Purpose is not to convert FSX to something that is not, ie, a combat sim. No. That's a wrong approach.
    There are combat sims for that type of flying anyway.

    Purpose is : Since I bought that "X" excellent military plane for FSX, why shouldn't I have the ability for
    Military style flying also with it ?...
    It will be available, I hope very soon...

    Thank you guys. Yes, I've created and still evolving it.
    It started for my Vietnam mission series, but since there is no Tacpack
    plane available yet (Milviz F-4 that is...), I fly-test it in Korea theater
    BTW, Milviz F-86 may also be used of course for those that have it.

    Let me give you some info about the "BattleGround : X" concept and the
    general idea of how it may be used.

    BattleGround : X

    X stands for FSX as also X = Korea, Vietnam, Libya ....
    All theaters share many common features (variations that is)

    Interactive BattleGround Features (until now) :

    1. AI Wingman with the ability to :
    - Control his actions during the whole sortie
    - Track targets and inform player
    - Bombing (works with FSX@War and in specific missions - for Korea
    this has been changed to : ability to track AI MiGs up to 3Kms and inform user)

    2. Flak Areas with
    - Unlimited dimensios (width, length, height)
    - Ability of damaging player (***may be added for AI Wingman also)
    - the longer the player remains inside the area, the greater the chance of taking damage

    3. AI Hostile Planes
    - Engage player and cause randomly different types of damage when player
    inside their weapons range (***may be added the same for Wingman or even AI vs AI battle)

    4. Certain types of AAA vehicles
    - Different types of vehicles for different theaters of Operations
    - May cause random damage to player up to a 2.5 Km radius, with predefined chance
    for this (PK, Probability Kill), each time player violates their fire control area
    - Vehicles can be static or moving

    Features to be added ("to do list") :

    - Ability of vehicles (CCP Spawned) to capture an Area (Base) with corresponding scenery changes,
    (mainly change of Base Flag to their side)

    - Maybe others ( ***under consideration)

    This interactive battleground is meant to work in conjuction with CCP :

    CCP may be used for designing various types of missions inside this environment.
    CCP AI units (vehicles in particular) can interact with Player and environment as
    in 4. & features to be added. (In video, I use CCP to spawn the AI DC3 for escort purposes,
    CCP will also be used for placement of static and/or moving AI units - targets, creating thus variaty
    of type sorties inside the BattleGround X environment)

    The whole project may be used-seen like a virtual "Strategy Board Game" :

    - Mission sets the conditions ("rules") and rolls the "dices"
    - CCP places the "pieces" (AI Units) in the virtual "Board" map.

    A virtual Strategy Board Game that you can virtually fly...

    "BattleGround : Korea" is ready and I 'll probably make it available in the week (remains to decide if I'll add
    more features or release as is right now, updating later). Will be available here

    And you have it... Ready for download after features finalized, altered voice pack and extensive testing...

    Download (about 11mb) includes also the AIs : F-86 Wingman, MiGs, and AI Invisible.
    Also instructions of how to fly it with Milviz F-86 (alternatively to Section 8's).

    Assign a key for engine fire extinguisher (...well...just in case...) and Safe Landings. Enjoy !

    In case you come up with some interesting CCP mission files, please share. Main problem with
    this is the fact that users don't have the same simobjects in their hangars... But CCP vehicles
    are common.

    BGX Korea, updated (v2 - maybe final).

    Mission Bug (my fault) resulting in no deactivation of Flak Area, corrected.

    For the full list of features added in version 2, see here or at the link above.

    I predict mission won't work. User verified it.

    Fix is easy :

    1.) You have to edit your F-86 Aircraft.cfg, adding this title (this plane) :

    [fltsim.X]
    title=North American F-86E Sabre 1 (Tacpack)
    sim=f86ef
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=joan
    kb_checklists=f86ef_check
    kb_reference=f86ef_ref
    ui_manufacturer=North American
    ui_type=SECTIONF8 F-86E/F Sabre
    ui_variation=F-86E US Air Force 51-2796 "Miss Joan"
    description="SECTIONF8 F-86E/F Sabre for FS2004\n\nF-86E-10-NA 51-2796 'Miss Joan' assigned to 335th FIS/4th FIW. Pilot Lt. John Ludwig.\n\nShift+E Canopy open/close\nShift+E+2 Ammo bay open/close (parking state)\n"/" Air brakes open/close\nExternal power ON with parking brake displays starter cart.\n\nThis airfile is strictly Copyright Rob Young 2008.\nNo reproduction or likeness of this airfile or flight\nmodel feel or essence may be published without\nthe authors written and express permission."
    atc_heavy=0
    visual_damage=0
    atc_id=12796
    atc_airline=Air Force
    atc_flight_number=796
    atc_parking_types=MIL_COMBAT
    atc_id_color=0x00000000
    atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0

    X = next number in sequence. Make sure you have the "joan" texture folder.

    2.) And also use the default mission .flt file (that uses the same title above). All will work fine after that.

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    This inconvenience happened because mission code for Repairs & Rearming has to reload user's plane. The plane that is declared for reload is the title above. So mission works only with this Aircraft title.

    Let's say I want to use this with MV F86? Can that be done?
    MACH 3 DESIGN STUDIO
    Heatblur Rivet Counting Squad™

  10. #10
    Yes.
    You'll have to set the Milviz F-86 Title you want in 2 files :
    1. At "KoreanWarF-86Sabre.flt" file, under [Sim.0], and
    2. at "KoreanWarF-86Sabre.xml" file :

    Open with notepad, use the search function to locate
    "<ObjectType><objecttype><objecttype><objecttype>N orth American F-86E Sabre 1 (Tacpack)"
    at code,
    then change with the same Milviz F-86 title between the "objecttype" tags and just save.</objecttype></objecttype></objecttype>

    A little scenery download is available for BGX Korea.

    It adds all the 4 North Korean Airbases missing from FSX (FSX has only Pyongyang for North Korea...) and
    the emergency metal strip runway with a small base at Chodo island.
    Now the operational google map is complete and that completes this project also.

    Updates to CCP missions files may be expected. Though any user can make his own CCP missions.

    BattleGround X : 50's Korea (v4)

    Major upgrade to version 4. Includes all updates over v3, plus :

    1. - Airbases with random number of spawned targets. 50% chance of static AAA to be present.
    2. - 2 x Ship convoy routes with randomized number of ships. 50% chance of AAA escort
    3. - 70Km (40miles) Truck resupply route on FSX default roads. Randomized numbers of trucks. AAA escort may be present.
    4. - Airbase (Wonsan) that scrabbles MiGs if you overfly the base
    5. - New random Task assignment for your sortie, every time you refly in BGX.

    Needs CCP to be installed. BGX code uses vehicles that come with CCP installation.
    You may use CCP for further addition of AI units at will.

    With BGX (v4) all types of missions are supported, leading to a complete
    Battle Ground :

    - Attack to AirBases
    - Attack to Ground Vehicles
    - Attack to Ships
    - Combat Air Patrol

    Updates over v3 (included in v4) :

    1. Mission Compass towards all map AirBases
    2. Pilot G load breathing over 5 sustained Gs
    3. 6 x MiG15s, static targets, for the 3 AirBases at North
    4. 3 x Ships targets, stationed at Wonsan Port
    5. Yangyang Airbase with R/R/R ability

    For flying BGX with Milviz F-86 (though not Tacpacked yet) alternatively
    to Section 8 default F-86, 2 files provided for substitution.

    A Simple Campaign System for flying BGX :
    ( Based on the assumption that the Return to Base rate in BGX will be about 3-4 : 1 )

    - Available Sabres : 10 (ie, you may KIA/MIA = not land at K-14 x 10 times)

    - N. Korean Units :

    Planes : 70 (grounded & airborne)
    Vehicles : 40
    Ships : 20 (only rockets permitted)

    Follow your assigned orders in mission briefing and try to destroy the above mentioned numbers of
    enemy units before you suffer 10 KIA/MIA.
    Keep a note on your Campaign progress.

    Great looking update, I have probably asked this before but what mission editor are you using for the basics? I have FSXME, but went ahead and purchased Instant Msn Maker as well. IMM has a easy to use GUI, but not sure how detailed I can get.
    Fly Navy/Army
    USN SAR
    DUSTOFF/ARMY PROPS

  14. #14
    I use IMM also due to selfexplained UI for the basic mission stracture (about and over 80%).
    If I want to add actions that IMM doesn't support, I use eg. "adjust payload action" in IMM and change
    that by hand in .xml with a "random" or a "refill" or whatever action using as a guide the MS SDK.

    I exploit the full spectrum of available actions & triggers that FSX System supports this way (not restricted
    by IMM restrictions
    ).

    Chance given, escort of 3xDC3s towards Chodo isl. We were "lucky" enough to be engaged by MiGs, so escort
    was not for nothing... DC3s placed with the upcoming CCP version.
