    Thanks Guys.

    Thanks Guys.

I haven't had much time to visit here for the last couple days.
We volunteered at a Church Rummage Sale on Saturday. 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM.
It is nice to do some good and take care of my son's "Service Learning" requirement.
I even bought a couple little things for myself though the folks were so grateful for volunteers that they just gave me the majority of what I was looking at. This was making me a bit uncomfortable so I just stopped looking at things after a while until the very end where they were just trying to clear things out. As it was, I only spent $2 for the entire day.

My daughter arranged our participation at the event and got about 8 members of her school's Key Club to volunteer as well, but she herself could not be there because she had a volunteer event at another location.

The PSAT for her is this Wednesday, so she is also busy with that.

Last night, Anna took us all out to a fancy restaurant for Peking Duck. (Basically Duck Tacos)
This was amusing because while we were there, we heard "Happy Birthday" in Chinese three times and none of them were for me. I didn't want mine to be announced.

    Thanks.
    - Ivan.

    it's amazing how,
    as the kids get older,
    the parents get busier.

    teaching them community service
makes them better people later on.

we've had a standing family policy for years.
    no birthday announcements in restaurants.
this year, my wife thought it would be cute
to tell everyone it was my birthday
as soon as we walked into a local place.
i was not amused, but had fun all the same.
when we went out for her birthday,
    i repaid her in spades.
i can only hope, she learned her lesson well.

This truly is an international crowd.

    Papingo,
Thanks for the good wishes. May I ask what language that was?

    Hubbabubba,
My son is starting French in school this year. My daughter has been taking French for the last few years.

    Smilo,
I am feeling the busy part now.
My daughter didn't ever need much help with science or maths.
This year she is taking physics and I believe I can help her (or annoy her by trying to help).
My son is taking geometry and although my understanding is still pretty good, the detail has gotten a bit foggy after all these years. I also am bringing a bit of trigonometry into the discussion even though he hasn't gotten there yet because it fits into the discussion.
So.... I guess I am back in middle school again but minus the homework.

    - Ivan.

    Its actually 'lowland scots.
For such a small country we have many dialects
eg. if you talk like a pirate that is a Bristol/west country dialect

    Thanks for the details, Papingo.
May you keep your chimney smoking for a long time as well!
....And we also now know where all the pirates are from.
I had always thought they were from Beijing, China.

    - Ivan.
