Thread: K. Ito's F-86D/K/L upgrade project

    Re

Well, from now I only worked on texturing and Im weak in 3D modelling. If anyone is still in contact with K. Ito, it would be interesting to ask him if he can provide us a version without VC, to allow FSX user to merge others VC. The top would be he allows us to modify his model and create a new, accurate 3d model of VC if some designer around here is willing to contribute... gauges from SF8 are already great and realistic, as well as the radar gauge from Barney Bigard.

If anyone has the required 3D / modelling skills, feel free to PM me.

You can see the right font used, the real serial number and the nose/tail stenciling.

This is Beautiful! Looking forward very much to the release when it happens.

Can you keep one of these birds a plain metal aircraft with no markings?

Wow, That's a very nice upgrade!
    definetly looking forward to it

BTW, have a look at the following font, not sure at all but it may be helpful on those tail numbers.

You can convert the model into FSX format with ModelConverterX. The original VC model will be lost in the process and you can then add any cockpit model you like.

@all thanks for these kind words
@ mvg3d, thanks for pics, I have other italian liveries planned and the font/markings on the photos will be useful.

I am still considering a full rework, including a new VC. Let me some time to investigate what could be done, and assuming we get K. Ito permission too...

    Hi L'iguane,
If You'll obtain the Mr.Ito's permission and, of course, the source model, PLEASE make longer the nose of "K" !!!!

As far as now, I am still waiting Mr Ito's answer. Many people told me they never had answer from Ito regarding project requests...
So I keep working on the texture packs, as well as a new panel.cfg adding SF8 gauges and radar to the VC...

Another interesting news is that a freeware North American Fury FJ2/FJ2M/FJ3 might be available soon for fs9/X and I might do a texture package for it in the same style than the sabre dog.

Bjoern, thanks for the hint - after some fiddling to get the animations properly converted and adding fresnel ramp, env map and specular map for the canopy glass the result is very nice. In case anyone is interested in the FSX native (exterior) model file send me a PM.

L'iguane, I love what you do with the textures . Like Huub, I have a weak spot for the Dutch "Kaasjager".

Thanks for doing us Dutchies this favour. It is really appreciated .

A small remark, I have the feeling that the registration numbers are a bit small. Below a picture of the real thing. As you can see the registration numbers continue until the end of the windshield.

L, maybe you can use this modified Amarillo font text (ZIP file contains the text "Q-337" in layered PSD format):

Keep in mind that many (all???) Sabres (all versions, including the D model) displayed a non-standard, rounded font for some markings that looked very different from the standard USAF Amarillo font. Pay attention to the photos.

Here's an example. Note how the U.S. Air Force is in the standard font, but the buzz number is in a completely different style:

Yes, this is an F-model, and it's a painting, not a photo, but photos show the same peculiarity.
