A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: Welcome to the Operation Pedestal and Mezzagosto campaign package! This package chronicles the effort by the British to get badly needed supplies loaded on merchant ships in the "Pedestal" convoy through the Western Mediterranean to relieve the besieged strategic island of Malta, whose citizens and defenses were on the brink of starvation. Also chronicled are the equally determined German and Italian efforts to prevent the convoy from reaching Malta intact. This dramatic battle took place between August 11th and 15th, 1942.

In the end, five merchant vessels were able to reach Malta, including the oiler Ohio, whose fuel allowed Malta to continue resisting the Axis forces in the Mediterranean. Nine of the merchant vessels were crippled and sunk, along with one destroyer, two light cruisers, and the carrier HMS Eagle. The result was a tactical victory for the Axis, whose bombers, fighters, torpedo boats, and U-boats inflicted horrific losses on the British. However, the result was also a strategic victory for the Royal Navy, who were able to keep Malta supplied enough to prevent its surrender to Axis forces, and continue its operations that severely affected the progress of the Afrika Korps during 1941 and 1942, especially in the crucial period during the battles of El Alamein.

To preserve the legacy of those brave sailors involved in this effort, all the ship names have been researched and used accordingly.

This is Part II of the Operation Pedestal & Mezzagosto campaign package. In this package, you will find the GSL scenery objects, anti-aircraft guns, buildings, and scenery packages, as well as nearly all the other equipment required, together with the campaigns & missions themselves.

Those whose work has been used for this project include Jean Bomber, UncleTgt, Baldy, Brunosk, Achim27619, Xavierb, Wolfi, Stiz, Usio, The Virtual Navy, Pen32Win, MaskRider, Gary Burns, Nanni, Nibbio, Bismarck13, Rockster, Simonu, the IS4G team, Paul Rebuffat, The Groundcrew Team, and the AF Team. Due to this, it is imperative that you gain permission from all parties before uploading this file package to a location other than www.sim-outhouse.com. Please be respectful of the rights of all those whose work is found here.

To preserve the legacy of those brave sailors involved in this effort, all the ship names have been researched and used accordingly.

In this first package, you will find all of the aircraft, gauges, sounds, weapons, voice packs, & nationality screens required for this campaign. All of the required aircraft have been included, as well as any historical repaints that would have been used during or near the time that Operation Pedestal worked its way through the Western Mediterranean. Those whose work has been included in this first package include the Alphasim freeware team, RobH, Dbolt, Graham, (VB planes) Oldwheat, the Groundcrew team, Bismarck13, Martin Wright, Brunosk, Thicko, Paul Rebuffat, Captain Kurt, Morton, the Donationware team, UncleTgt, Lawdog2360, Buddha13, Krystof Malinowski, Baldy, Kelticheart, Gius, Franz von Baron, Alain Breton, Peperez, Mission, Edrufle, the old IS4G team, Virtual Wings, and Wolfi.

All of the aircraft in this package have been modified, when necessary, to include the appropriate repaints, when possible, for the aircraft. I've also included modified .dp files for each aircraft which correct information in the [MISC.DATA] section that I found to be in error. To lessen issues with frame rates with many waves of aircraft in the sky, all exhaust effects have been removed, if they were included in the original models.

    Good evening,

Before signing off for the night, I uploaded both packages for Operation Pedestal and Mezzagosto. Please enjoy, but do me an important favor....

Make sure that you provide feedback. When putting this package together, I included...

    Afnor Lake Fix
Jean Bomber's North African shorelines, Pantelleria / Lampedusa, and Gibraltar / Afnor sceneries
    Brunosk's Malta
    Achim's Italian / Sicilian airfields

...and made sure to set them up exactly according to the MTO scenery installation guide, including copying all of the texture files I outlined and left instructions for in the guide. So when you run the installers, please check the scenery after you set it up and make sure that it looks okay. I need to know that you understand the instructions, and that nothing was left out.

If anything is confusing, please let me know that as well.

The more feedback you provide, the easier for me it will be to do similar packages for Heinkels, the Fleet Air Arm, Malta Spitfire, and other large-scale campaigns.

    Have fun!

    Thanks,
    "Rami"

    This is great!

Thank you so much for your efforts!

Don't have CFS2 installed anymore but this alone would be a good reason to bring it back!

    Good evening,

I accidentally put an old copy of the readme in with the first Pedestal / Mezzagosto package. Instead of downloading the whole thing again, here are the updated readmes.

It's fantastic that we have someone with the patience and knowledge needed to constantly improve and create all these campaigns. Thank you Rami! But I must confess I am a little behind schedule flying some of them. But the winter er long.

    Morton,

I am sure that the auto-installers will help everyone do more flying and less searching for stuff!

    Good afternoon,

Many thanks to Voyager for speaking up on issues with the package...

    Rami,

Don't know if happens only in my setup or if it will affect others.

Started the first couple missions in Operation Pedestal/Mezzagosto and found a couple things that I had to take care of to get the missions to load.

    sm84, in the aircraft.cfg I changed sim=SM84A_Real to sim=SM84

MS 406 _fr, changed folder name from MS 406 _fr to MS-406 _fr

Wildcat, (no texture.1 folder) texture=1 in aircraft.cfg changed to texture=

VN_HMS_Victorious43, couldn't find it in my stuff so copied Ark Royal and renamed folder

VN_USS_Indianapolis, had to add sound and panel folders

Beaufighter, did something but can't remember just now

When assembling something this big along with all the others you are putting together a detail gets missed here and there.

Thanks for all you have done in upgrading these campaigns!

    voyager

...He was correct on all of them, I forgot on the Indianapolis about the "dummy" text file inclusion. I also did forget the Victorious43, and fixed the Wildcat.cfg and the Sm-84 torpedo bomber.

Voyager...I double-checked the Beaufighter but couldn't find anything. If you do, please let me know.

I am uploading revised packages this evening, and will note the update in the description.

    Rami,

Better to use Victorious41. Victorious43 is in the Blue Grey colour used when she was off New Georgia doubling as the Big E...

And of course the Ark Royal shouldn't be anywhere to be found...

    Rami,

I think it was Win7 not liking the panel bmp. Any panel used to work. Now the machine is picky. I have had to resize several panel bmps from 1064 X 768 to 1025 X 770 to get them to work. It all started a few months ago after some MS update or other.
