    Textures needed for CVE's

    Some 1944 MS 32 textures are needed for USS Sicily CVE P CAT . Those with deck numberS( have some) would be nice but mainly need a blank deck, so can be any CVE. Have a nice amount but some for mid late october 1944 CVE's are needed.Building a CVE campaign now that have an excellent up to date FM2, plus catapult capable carriers(P CAT). Anyone willing/able to do this ? Ship specific textures would be fine but mainly just need a blank deck with no number.

    Dasuto,

    Does it need to be Collins USS Sicily?

    Couldn't you just add the catapult take-off entries to Collins USS Kadashan Bay & get a camoed (earlier class) CVE?

    Which particular vessels (& time frame) are you interested in?

    I would prefer the USS Siciliy P CAT since it has quite a few textures available for WW 2, just missing some key one ones such as some of those at Mariannas and Leyte...Gambier Bay, Savo Island etc. KBay is a nice ship but does not have the pitch and roll effects and has a texture issue where from distant deck is wood colored, only appears gray when up close or zoom in. Should you find time to do specific textures with deck numbers that would be great but a blank deck would suffice.Just better than having deck numbers not match the ship's name. Timeline? Soon as possible.I am working on mission three for invasion of Saipan now, flew the first two and were fun.I am trying to get the costal gun by AF(I believe) to work in so LVT's etc are in danger and accurate CAS matters. Also, anyway to remove the landing lights on these ships?

    Specific ships needed are:

    Deck with no number for use as needed.
    Gambier Bay
    Savo Island
    St Lo
    Fanshaw Bay
    Kalinin Bay
    Midway
    Coral Sea
    Corregidor
    Ommaney Bay
    Marcus Island
    Saginaw Bay
    Petrof Bay
    Natoma Bay
    Manila Bay

    Dasuto,

    These are all Casablanca class CVEs. The Commencement Bay class (USS Sicily) were larger vessels.

    Collins Kadashan Bay is a nicer model than the Virtual Navy's, but I agree the flight deck display blip does need fixing. I just took a look at the model using MCX & it appears the middle LOD calls for the wrong texture name to display the flight deck. A simple fix for someone that can modify the texture call-out.

    Otherwise, it's the less detailed VN Casablanca.

    Both are multi-LOD

    Adding catapult take off points & changing dynamics are relatively easy changes to the cfg file, you can do this with Notepad.

    I already changed cfg so can do cat shots. The pitch and roll, not sure how. The texture, above my paygrade. . Hopefully some kind soul will pick that part up.

    I saw the sicily as a great stop gap but would prefer the kadashan bay with other textures and the deck fix.

    Ship pitch and roll is fround in the ship.cfg. Look for [Dynamics] in the file. If there is no [Dynamics] in the files you can get it from SHA_ENTERPRISE_CV-6.

    for pitch and roll add this to the cfg

    [Dynamics]
    pitch_wave_moment_scale = 1
    bank_wave_moment_scale = 1
    pitch_damp_moment_scale = 1
    bank_damp_moment_scale = 1

    to add more movement for escorts and such...

    [Dynamics]
    pitch_wave_moment_scale = 5
    bank_wave_moment_scale = 5
    pitch_damp_moment_scale = 2
    bank_damp_moment_scale = 2

    you can set it from 0.1 and up. Don't go above 3 for carriers unless you want a wild ride.

    ...model swap...

    Dasuto,

    I'm still plugging away with this.

    In the end I swapped Collins HMS Ruler model for Kadashan & changed the texture names to match the model call-out. It's almost identical, just some small differences... but no white flight deck as you move away from the CVE any more

    Some WIP shots

    Very nice.Thanks for taking care of this.Are unable to remove the flight deck lights?

    Afraid the lights are coded into the model - way above my capabilities.

    Some more WIP - I think the colours all need some green adding to the shades, & they are way too clean for my liking, but you get the picture - camo patterns are WIP...

    Very nice.Ah well, lights are not the biggest deal.

    Hey Unc,
    Don't know if this will help you or not. Its the Camo scheme for the Casablanca Class. Also, the deck colors.

    I used 4.4.1.1 for a "jeep" carrier (Collin's "USS Sicily50"... http://simviation.com//lair/files/sh...S_Sicily50.zip ) and all the other ships in the group, and got this effect: http://s81.photobucket.com/user/Pech...l?sort=2&o=437

    Though out of practice I was still able to take of and land twice. However 3,3,1,1 would be mellower.
    *Note: Pay attention to the escorts' and neighboring CVE's pitch and roll set at 4,4,1,1. in the beginning of the video.

    Bob,

    Thanks for the lead, however I think I'm covered.

    I found this site with a neat listing (based on photo evidence) http://usndazzle.com/1Web/CVEsbyNos.html
    Although some of the info does not match the listing here http://www.shipcamouflage.com/usn_cve.htm

    I guess some artistic licence might be in order ...

    WIP of a new deck texture, in 565 bitmap format for more colour detail. The deck green colour is material in the HMS Ruler model, that will need to be changed using MDLmat.

    Unc,
    No sweat. I had those as I was going to redo the VN version. At Tango's "urging" Collin came up with the Kadashan Bay. This was a favor to me because of the wife's uncle who flew an Avenger off her.
    What you're doing looks fantastic. Can't wait to give it a try.
    Thanks,

    Dasuto,
    My wife's Uncle Tom was part of VC-20 and flew Avengers off the "Katie B's" deck. Unfortunatly, I never met him as he had passed away before we were married. I'm told he was a quiet man and rarely spoke of his war years. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. If you want "Charlie 88", you can find it in my downloads. You can read more about the "Katie B" and VC-20 on their web site.

    The Jeeps or Escort Carriers were a special interest of my grandftather (USN Commodore Ret, Class of 1912), and he took me aboard a number of ships in the moth ball fleet in San Diego before they became Japanese cars and razor blades. It was a remarkable experience and one I have never forgotten. I am glad to see them getting their "day" in various sims and nice to see the attention to detail given here. Well Done to all hands.

    most of the CVEs were culled from the fleet in the 1950s as being outdated and obselete.

    Very interesting.Yes, have found most vets rarely speak of their war experiences. I already use the excellent Charlie 88 skin, nice job.

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Ships Add-Ons

    Description: New Textures for Collins USS Kadashan Bay + LOD fix

    This comprises a model LOD fix / workaround, plus new textures for depicting any of the Casablanca Class CVEs used in the Pacific during 1943-44. You will need to have copies of both the USS Kadashan Bay44 & HMS Ruler45 by Colin Glendenning. These are available at the Fox Four website.

    This work is released with the consent of Tom Sanford.

    First: Fixing the LOD fault

    Unfortunately, the middle LOD of Collins USS Kadashan Bay44 contains a texture assignment error. The result is very soon after moving away from the vessel, the flight deck will appear to turn white.

    Luckily, there are lots of similarities between his USS Kadashan Bay model, & his later HMS Ruler45 model. The model for the HMS Ruler45 does not reproduce the same LOD texture problem. The fix is simple. Take the Model folder contents of the HMS Ruler45 & copy it into the USS Kadashan Bay44 model folder. Allow the model.cfg to be overwritten.

    Second: using the original textures (optional). If you want to use Collins original textures, you just have to rename them as follows:

    Kadashan_Bay.bmp to HMS Ruler45.bmp
    KFD44.bmp to Ruler45FD.bmp

    There are some small omissions, but overall they are a good match just as they are. However, for those seeking more variety, read on:

    Third: Using the new textures.

    The zip includes a listing of CVEs assigned to operations in the Central Pacific during 1943-44. This listing became the master list for compiling the textures & flight deck markings, allowing you to create separate ships for each Casablanca Class CVE that took part in these operations.

    I have also included a generic blank Flight Deck texture without ship numbers for those that want a single class entry to suffice!

    The camouflage measures depicted are:

    Measure 14 (usually the shipyard delivery paintjob for CVEs during 1943).
    Measure 21
    Measure 22
    Measure 32-4A
    Measure 32-10A
    Measure 32-12A
    Measure 32-15A
    Measure 33-10A
    Measure 33-14A
    Measure 33-15A

    Obviously the listing is far from complete, but it can easily be added to if there is a need.

    Texture Installation: Simply copy the chosen textures into the texture folder of your (fixed) USS Kadashan Bay44.

    Creating more Casablanca class CVEs:

    Copy the whole USS Kadashan Bay44 ship. Rename the new ship folder to your chosen ship name, for example USS Petrof Bay44

    With ships, you have to also open up the ship.cfg file and modify the following lines as the sim wants the folder name, the DP file and the sim name in the ship.cfg file to be the same.

    [fltsim.0]
    title=USS_Kadashan_Bay44 - change to USS_Petrof_Bay44
    sim=USS_Kadashan_Bay44 - change to USS_Petrof_Bay44
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=

    Save your amended ship.cfg. Once done, rename to DP file to match the "sim=" name. In our example USS_Kadashan_Bay44.dp becomes USS_Petrof_Bay44.dp

    Thanks to:

    Collin Glendenning - gone but not forgotten, Collin gave CFS2 a legacy in his library of ships that were both incredibly detailed yet easy on frame rates. The quality is such that newer Flight Sims are benefitting from his work as his models are converted for use in FSX.

    This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions
