    Hey guys.

    Unlike the previous two Pacific releases, I forgot that this campaign package requires an additional download, because of the Java port complexes...

    I just updated the package, but you can just click on the link to download what you need.

    Question Dutch East Indies Part II

    Rami

    What do I do with this scenery.cfg entry:

    [Area.xx]
    Title=OG_Dutch_East_Indies
    Local=scenedb\OG_Dutch_East_Indies
    Active=TRUE
    Layer=xx
    Remote=
    Required=FALSE

    There is not an entry for it in Scenerydb. Do I need it? I have the Java download by OG, but it is titled OG_DEI. I get an error notice saying there is no scenery folder.

    How do I fix this?

    It is a great download and I am enjoying it, but I am running it without this entry.

    Braveheart,

    Wow. Talk about a gaping hole in the armor. Yikes!

    You'd think after seventy some-odd downloads another user might have stumbled onto that and said something. I used the airfields on Borneo and Java by Onnogras as a replacement for ones by Xavierb and MaskRider, so that's critically important. Also, the oil and port facilities at Batavia and Surabaya require his included coastlines, so this is a class-A oversight.

    I have attached the folder you need, and am rebuilding the installer now. Just for kicks, I decided to swap out the Mas "Shoho" light carrier for the Usio Ryujo, which is far more authentic.

    Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

    I just uploaded the entire installer to the library again, and made sure to included the missing folder.

    Icon22 Dutch East Indies campaign - Part III.zip

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

    Description: This is an optional add-on campaign for the Dutch East Indies auto-installer packages, which creates a more difficult Japanese campaign, & conversely, an easier Dutch campaign than the version included in the original campaign package.

    Credit for this goes exclusively to UncleTgt, who pointed out to me off-handedly in an email that during the end of 1941 and into the Spring of 1942, only Japanese large carriers (or what Americans would call "fleet" carriers) were equipped with A6M Zeroes, & that light carriers like the Ryujo and Shoho were still equipped with A5M4 Claudes, even up until the Coral Sea campaign.

    Please be aware that this only affects missions where you fly from the Ryujo, you will still fly the Zero during land-based missions.

    Fighting in the A5M4 Claude means that you will lose your advantage in dogfights with the Brewster Buffalo and Curtiss Hawk 75; they will now both be faster than you, though you will still be able to outmaneuver them. The same will be true for the other opponents you will encounter late in the campaign. You will also lose your 20mm cannons, so you will have to be more thrifty and accurate with your ammunition.

    Conversely, the Allied Dutch East Indies campaign will now be easier for precisely the same reason.

    To use this package, you must also make sure you install the two main auto-installers of the DEI campaign…

    Part II: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...id=44&id=20080
    Part I: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=44&id=20079

    Please note that these campaign and mission files will overwrite those included in the packages I linked you to just above, so if you want to eventually fly the easier campaign, you will need to back up the original version.

    Thanks to UncleTgt for this idea! All other credits have been listed in the original Dutch East Indies campaign packages, with the exception of the Bristol Jupiter sound package, and the inclusion of the A5M4 Claude by Xavierb. Thanks, Robin and Xavierb!

    Happy flying, and have fun!

    Icon22 From the mind of UncleTgt...

    Hey guys,

    John (UncleTgt) Burdett does a great deal for the CFS2 community...and he made an off-handed observation about the Dutch East Indies campaign's historical accuracy, so I figured this was the least I could do for him, seeing how he's been feverishly slaving away on my behalf.

    Rami,

    Did a little research on the Ryujo.

    At the time of this campaign the Ryujo had A5M4 Claudes and B5N1 Kates. The Val was never mentioned in any attacks just the Kate. The Kates usually attacked with 1x250kg bomb and 4x60kg bombs. This includes ship attacks. Sometimes just 4x60kg bombs.

    The Claudes were replaced by Zeros April 23, 1942.

    The Shoho had 8 Zeros, 4 Claudes and 8 Kates at The Coral Sea.

    TheBookie,

    Thanks for that info. Unlike Port Darwin, I don't profess the D.E.I. campaign to be historically accurate. The original campaign wasn't, and I didn't scorch the ends of the earth doing research on it. Looking at the DEI campaign's readme, the Val isn't used, and neither is the Kate.

    I'd like the Aleutians and Port Darwin to be more historically accurate, because those are being done as an homage to Talon. (At least the Japanese missions for the Aleutians I already have)

    This might be of some help if you don't have it already. At the bottom of the page you will find links to other Japanese ships. They show the movement of the ships and what they used to attack targets.

    You guys are absolutely amazing! All the research on missions, A/C, ships etc.

    I appreciate all the work and especially that part to honor Talon.

    research ... always more to do

    It seems the IJN stopped painting red tails on their A5Ms during the summer of 1941... time to get the brushes out again

    John,

    Just let me know when, and I can update the package. Part III is small, only about 9mb when run through ClickTeam.

    Thank you for taking this on!

    Pacific Campaigns

    Rami,

    I have just finished downloading all three of your recent campaigns and I would like to thank you and all of the other contributors for the hard work and the great detail that you have gone into. They really are superb. Thank you especially for the auto-installer as it saves a lot of work. I did have one small problem with getting the Japanese submarine carrier GC_I400 to display which I think is due to the model configuration file pointing to a location that I can't find. In the end I substituted it for a different submarine.

    I am looking forward to trying out your Mediterranean campaigns in a week or so.

    Keep up the good work!

    Many thanks,

    Dick.

    Dick,

    Thank you for both the constructive and positive feedback. Thank you, and I will have a look-see this evening at the model.

    Dick.

    I found the problem, it was a model aliasing issue.

    I will fix the package in the morning. Sorry it took longer than I said it would!

    Dick,

    I did re-package and upload Part II this morning, but I will leave this model fix up here for a while to allow those who have this issue to use the fix, rather than download the entire thing.

    Thank you for speaking up!
