Safe into PNG. Finally got to stretch my legs a little bit. Looks like the unsettled weather is in my rear view mirror.

Just wondering if you hit a hard bump over New Britain?

Nope. The only hard bump was my ham-fisted piloting into Rabaul.

    Moving along to Hayfield.

Never did find Hayfield. Diverting back to Wewak. Have the NDB there tuned in.

    Safely into unscheduled Wewak.

In looking at the Flight Analysis, looks like we zoomed right past it.

Mr Navigator is going to be slinging the prop wash and relative bearing grease for sure.

Ambitious .... coming from me that's huge ... and so is the "29".

Keeping an eye ya ... wondering about an attempt myself.

I'm about to get back out of Santa Ana once again to (hopefully) retrieve my stolen P-40 and ... I'm wondering if Miss Nellie would approve of me packing the P- 40 up in crates and loading it up on the "29' as freight .... then fly the "29" back.

Two for one .... just thinking right now.

It would have to be in Gnoopey's model, running some not so promising descent and landing skills tests right now.

Good Luck Kevin on an awesome effort!

Thanks Austin. Good on you to think about the B-29. Way more fun than all these "little" planes buzzing about.

Back in the saddle. Off to find the needle in the Hayfield...

  11. #36
Well, that was the hardest leg so far and only 37 miles!

Had trouble finding the field again but finally spotted it in the haze off to port. Made a low pass over and then set up for a normal approach. Ended up landing long to avoid some palms and had to run off the runway with the brakes mashed down as hard as I could to keep from running into more palms.

Cool. I'm headed for the Hayfield myself. We can trade spare parts. See how many of these Boeing bits are interchangeable between the two generations of Fortresses.

Enjoyed a hearty BBQ lunch courtesy of PRB's B-17 crew that landed earlier. Didn't ask where they got the fresh water buffalo...

Going to push on to WABB with the crate of spare parts they left. I think those were for us?

Edit: Ran out of runway and clipped a palm. Restarting

About that water buffalo. Well, when we took off from Naha, it was crossing the runway, see, and... it wasn't our fault, but... Oh, and you're welcome on the crate of spare parts. Hope they're not too heavy...
