Icon5 What is your favorite helicopter?

Mine is the JF Schweizer 300i. I have the Army's TH-55 paint scheme on mine in honor and memory of all the brave young warrant officers and officers who lost their lives in Vietnam. Anyway that's my favorite helicopter. What's yours?

+1 on the Virtavia Sea King. I picked this up during the last 50% off sale and have been flying ever since.
And for those who like AI helo's, keep an eye over at Avsim library today as John Young has released his Blackhawk/Jayhawk package for both fs9 and fsx.

It depends what is meant by the question...

    • What is your favorite helicopter IRL?

    or

    • What is your favorite FSX native helicopter?

My answer to the former is the SA341 Sud Aviation/Aérospatiale/Westland Gazelle

My answer to the latter is the AS350 Aérospatiale/Eurocopter Écureuil (Squirrel, or A-Star if you're in NA) by Nemeth Bros.

Others close to the top IRL include Whirlwind, Wessex, Lynx (HAS3 & AH7), Skeeter, Dragonfly, Sycamore and of course Wasp/Scout, but none of these exist in fully FSX native and fully published (the Alphasim Whirlwind was originally FS9 and Rick Piper's Sycamore was never finished).

    Favorite Helo

I've got to go with the Nemeth EC135 in NWMedstar markings. I've a soft spot for that bird ever since I got a 45 minute ride from Ferry County Memorial to Sacred Heart Trauma Center in Spokane in it.

Big helicopters, as I generally gind those easier to fly. The Virtavia Sea king, CH/MH-53's, the nemeth Skycrane (Bit harder to fly though!). The Virtavia Apache Longbow is great for doing aerobatics in a helo.

Almost impossible to pick a favourite. I have all Nemeth releases, all Milviz releases, all Cera releases and a shed load of what Virtavia have kicked out over the years. I have that 300i too and while I like to look at it, I hate flying it!!
Current fave is probably this one..

.. cause I've just finished painting it The Virtavia Sea king actually sounds like a Sea King too.

As I said above though.. I can't put hand on heart and say which of them is my favourite. They all get flown from time to time (except the 300i) and I usually enjoy the flight.

No votes for the Dodosim Bell 206? Still my favorite FSX helicopter by a large margin. A shame their Huey never made it to market.

Alan, the Dodo Sim Bell 206 is my favourite! I use it refresh myself on the start up and emergency drills for the real thing, plus it flies like a helicopter. Bit worrying how often I crash it really, probably shouldn't tell my passengers...

Well, they say the sim is harder than real flying...

But yes, better not to share!

I also have all the FSX native helos out. I like all of them for various reasons but if I had to pick a single one it would be the Cera 212.

Perhaps those of you who are proficient at flying helicopters might be willing to help a forum newbie learn to fly helicopters. It's something I would love to learn, but have not progressed an iota since FS2000. I use Saitek X52 and X52 pro if that helps. System: i7 quad core processor at 3.00GHz, 24gb ram, 4gb video card.

    Hi Douglas

A good place for a newbie to look would be here.. http://www.hovercontrol.com/

As you'd imagine by the name, everything there is helicopter related If I remember right, you'll find some tutorials there as well as helicopters and paints to download plus a whole pile of other stuff.

Well, this is shaping up to be a good thread. I personally don't think the JF S-300i is all that hard to fly. It just requires constant flying. One of the things on my "bucket list" is to get a couple hours dual time in a 300. Middle Georgia College runs a helicopter flight training program up at the Eastman, Georgia, airport. No way can I afford to ever solo it much less get my rotary wing endorsement but, I just would like to say that I could fly it unassisted by the instructor.(Well, maybe, he or she would not have to keep their hands continually on the collective or cyclic.)

Like some other things on my list, this might still be there when my wife cleans out my things after I'm dead. Hey! A fellow can still dream.

I don't like helicopters in fsx, but I have fond memories of a real life flight I took visiting the Bungle Bungle in a Bell 47..
