    Cavalier Mustang upgrade project

    Hello !

I started long time ago to work on AF Scrub Cavalier mustang retexturing (old version) and Mick was unable to turn the mdl into a reflective one (MDL mystery !! sometimes there are things like that) So I noticed A.F. of our issue...a few week after writing him, a beautiful cavalier V2 was up at flightsim, featuring significant improvement on model and VC !!

Here are illustrated progresses. There are thousand of repaint and models of Mustangs but no cavalier (except A.F. version) nor Thunder Mustang were ever developped.
Thanks to A.F. Scrub, we now have a nice subject to repaint !

    old version :

starting to struggle with alpha channel

I am not an expert of metal texturing and it took a lot of time to find the right balance of grey to get a decent metal rendering.
    To be continued

Awesome work! I like the bare metal skin you've created. I have photos here of Cavalier mustangs in a book. The Bolivian air Force had some Cavaliers and there were one or two examples flown as privately owned warbirds in that Bolivian Air force's scheme with a shark's mouth on them.

    Hello all,

Should you have any "rare" or not published cavalier photo's or doc, feel free to share, I'll consider repainting more liveries or share a paintkit to allow you to do so !

How does the PA-48 Enforcer relate to the Cavalier Mustang? I only know that it had a PT-6 instead of the Merlin but other then that its a complete mystery.

PA-48 had only a few to do with the Mustang/Cavalier (said 25% of common parts with the P-51D). It was initially developped on the Cavalier basis, using a Dart turboprop if I remember, and sold later to Piper, so it became the enforcer. Lots of brilliant planes, worldwide, never get the chance or political agreement to be ordered and built in large quantities, despite remarkable performances. Im convinced the Enforcer was one of them !

You can get better and more precise description of the Enforcer on the net, I am not a specialist, only an enthusiastic !

Indeed... a nice subject to repaint....

I think I will apply my profile techniques to do a nice repaint of this bird myself...
Something like this P-51D I am posting in my thread...

    Sean,

It actually had a T-53 turboprop. The engines and props were removed from the North American YAT-28E prototypes for use on the Enforcer program.

    Civilian Mustangs

Templates finished and I started a repaint serie of civilian Mustangs / Cavalier
I plan to rework also the VC (cfg and textures), I hope to get close of the modernized aspects of late mustangs or restored ones. it is likely to take some time

    More to come

Your progress on the Cavalier Mustang is shaping up nicely, mate. Not much out there in terms of info on this rather obscure version of the Mustang. I had a model of the PA-48 Enforcer when I was a younger man. Always thought the original P-51D had the cleanest lines though.

    Re

You fellow are very welcome ! Thanks for these nice comments. I'm thinking doing another 2 or 3 civilian liveries, then I will upload a first package, covering all the liveries above (except the bolivian). Another package covering the military users of the cavalier (mainly South American) is planned, as well as an extensive rework of the VC, with gauges replacement and retexturing.
The Avenger project is in stand by. I will probably release a pack with the liveries I already did, with possible future extensions.
