    ************************************************** ************************************************** **********************************

Note: if installed into stock CFS3 it will require the following addons to be installed for correct country allocation in game:

*NEK redux edition by Rick Rutherford. this will give you the extra countries required for the aircraft set. If you do not install the NEK set all planes will show under Britain.

If installed into ETO, Rising Sun or MAW addons then no extra files are required, planes will show in their correct country slots.

    **************INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.***********************
!!!!READ ALL OF THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING ANYTHING!!!!!!

    Unzip to a temporary folder:

You will see the following folders:

    _CFS3 ETO specific files
    _MAW specific files
    _RS specific files
    extra files MAW
    Generic to all installs

Inside each of the temp folders you will see at least one of the following folders listed.

    Aircraft
    pylons
    weapons
    sounds
    Guns

Place content of aircraft folder into the corrisponding games main aircraft folder (this includes the DR_engine_sounds folder, and Fulmar shared textures).
Place content of Pylon folder into games main Pylon folder. (allow to overwrite if asked)
Place content of Weapon folder into games main Weapon folder. (allow to overwrite if asked)
Place content of Sound folder into games main Sound folder. (allow to overwrite if asked)
Place content of Guns folder into games main Guns folder. (allow to overwrite if asked)

extra files MAW - In addition to the aircraft listed above there is one extra aircraft a replacement aircraft for the "AI" only MkI Fulmar included in MAW addon original setup. The aircraft has been named with exactly the same name as the original MAW Fulmar. This allows for the replacement of the "B" class model in MAW without effecting any missions or facility files that may be calling on it in MAW. To use please delete the existing DR_Fairey_Fulmar_x9589 folder from the aircraft folder in MAW and then insert the plane from the extra files MAW folder.

In all cases where you are asked to overwrite say yes as included are the latest files from the AvHistory weapons set and any relevent addon.

*****SETTING UP NEW 8x303 GUN SOUNDS********

Inside each of the specific files folders you will find a lose sound.xml file. This sound.xml file has had the sounds for the 8x303 machine guns added.

Place the sound.xml file into the corrisponding games main folder. (allow to overwrite if asked, or back up your original)). for a stock CFS3 install use the included ETO sound file.

In all cases it is the most recent update of the sound.xml for the games. MAW=1.31, Rising Sun 1.0 and ETO=1.50

If you have edited your own sounds.xml file and you do not wish to overwrite your original with the included file; then at the end of this document you will find the text and instructions to copy the relevent text into your own sounds.xml file to enable the new sounds in game.

Or if you would rather not edit your sound file at all you can use standard AvHistory 303 guns in your aircraft. to do this follow instructions at bottom of this document to update each aircrafts xdp file "gunstation"section to call on standard AvHistory 303 guns and corrisponding sounds.

    Fairey Fulmar mkI

    Unit: 806 Sqn FAA
    Serial: X8559
    Code: 6-J
    HMS Victorious,
    off Hvalfjord, Iceland.
    April 1942.

809 Squadron formed in January 1941 at St Merryn with 12 Fairey Fulmars, the squadron embarked in HMS Victorious in July 1941. At first involved in operations against Petsamo and Bodo, and then the convoys to North Russia, Victorious and her air group fought in the Mediterranean from July 1942, including participating in Operation Pedestal.

After being trained in army co-operation duties at Sawbridge, 809 re-embarked in Victorious in October 1943 and conducted tactical reconnaissance for the North African landings of Operation Torch. After which they were re-equipped with the Seafire IIc.

Entering service in May of 1940 at a time when fighters were sorely needed, the Fairey Fulmar compared unfavorably with land based fighters having a top speed of only 272 mph. Nevertheless, the Navy considered the second crewman (a radioman/navigator) essential for fleet work. Fairey Fulmar pilots claimed 112 enemy aircraft destroyed by wars end.

Many hundreds of Fairey Fulmar fighters fought over the sea in every wartime theatre. The Fulmar played important roles in the early defence of Malta and the defence of Ceylon, and went on to account for nearly one 3rd of the aircraft shot down by the FAA in WWII. Significant numbers of enemy aircraft were shot down in the Mediterranean Campaigns especially from HMS Eagle, Formidable and Illustrious, most notably on Operation Pedestal. Fulmar's were also used in Operations in the Arctic, most notably against the German forces at Petsamo and Kirkenes in 1941.

    Serial: N2005
    Code: 7-C
    HMS Formidable,
    East Mediterranean.
    April 1941.

At the outbreak of war, the squadron embarked on HMS Ark Royal with Skua and Rocs from Scapa for patrols off Norway and Anti-submarine operations in the North West Approaches, during which time whilst attacking U-30 on 14 September 1940 two Skua were lost.

The first German aircraft to be shot down by any British aircraft was by the squadron on 26 September when it destroyed a Do18.

The squadron, with only Skua, embarked on HMS Glorious in April for operations to defend Norway, and was operating from Hatston when it and 800 squadron dived-bombed the German cruiser Konigsberg at Bergen. But in June only two aircraft survived an attack on the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst whilst operating from HMS Ark Royal.

On reforming with 112 Fulmar in October 1940, the squadron subsequently saw service in the Eastern Mediterranean with HMS Formidable, including to provide fighter cover for the Malta convoys, and during with Battle of Cape Matapan shot down 2 aircraft and damaged 2 others. The squadron withdrew to Dekheila after HMS Formidable was damaged during the Crete evacuation, and re-equipped with RAF Hurricanes.

The squadron operated against Syria from Palestine in June 1941, then in August became part of the combined unit operating in the Western desert as the RN Fighter squadron.

In March 1942 the squadron re-equipped with Fulmar IIs and flew from Ceylon in defence against Japanese attacks and the following month operated from HMS Formidable in the Indian Ocean.

    Unit: 808 Sqn FAA
    Serial: N1850
    Code: M-5
    HMS Ark Royal,
    Mediterranean.
    November 1940.

808 Squadron was formed at RNAS Worthy Down in July 1940, flying twelve Fairey Fulmars in the role of a Fleet Fighter squadron. They were initially assigned to the Isle of Man to carry out patrols over the Irish Sea, but were soon transferred to Wick for the defence of the dockyards. Following this, the squadron was reassigned to RAF Fighter Command, and was one of only two Allied naval aviation squadrons to take part in the Battle of Britain, the other being 804 Naval Air Squadron.

In September 1940, the squadron was assigned to the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, which was part of Force H, operating in the Mediterranean. The squadron shot down two enemy aircraft in an attack on Sardinia in November, followed by another two in operations over Sicily in January 1941, and a fifth while defending Malta in May. The carrier was reassigned to the Atlantic in late May, as part of the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. Following the successful sinking of the Bismarck, the carrier returned to the Mediterranean, with 807 and 808 Squadrons claiming fifteen aerial kills during July and August. 808 Squadron was embarked when Ark Royal was torpedoed and sunk by the U81 on 13 November 1941. Although all of the squadron personnel survived the sinking, many of the aircraft were lost in the attack, the surviving aircraft were flown from Ark Royal before the carrier sank, and on arrival in Gibraltar were merged with the survivors of 807 Squadron, which had also been embarked.

808 Squadron was reformed with six Fulmar IIs aboard HMS Biter in January 1942. They came aboard HMS Battler between April and May 1943, and took part in operations covering the Salerno landings in September 1943. They then formed part of the 3rd Naval Fighter Wing, returning to the United Kingdom aboard HMS Hunter.

The Squadron was re equipped in May 1944 at RNAS Lee-on-Solent with 20 Supermarine Seafire L.IIIs. At the same time, they were attached to No. 345 Reconnaissance Wing of the Royal Air Force's Second Tactical Air Force. While part of this wing, 808 Squadron, along with three other FAA squadrons (885, 886 and 897) and two RAF squadrons (26 and 63), plus the USN's VCS7, all flying Spifire VBs, provided valuable target coordinates and fire control for RN and USN battleships and cruisers during 20 days of operations. On D-Day 'pooling' of the spotting units' aircraft meant that all units flew either Spitfires or Seafires. Normandy Landings. This role of spotters lasted until 26 June, by which time the fighting was too far inland to be covered by the ship's guns.

Following this, the squadron was re-equipped with 24 Hellcat Is and IIs. 808 Squadron was assigned to the British Eastern Fleet in January 1945, embarked aboard the escort carrier HMS Khedive. While part of the Eastern Fleet, the squadron operated off Malaya and Sumatra, with periods spent flying off HMS Emperor. They covered the re-occupation of Rangoon in May, carried out strikes against Japanese airfields in Sumatra in June, and covered the re-occupation of Malaya after the Japanese surrender. The squadron was decommissioned at the end of the war.

October 1941. With the slowdown in the Russian campaign, Adolf Hitler has decided to put his attention to the Mediterranean. Admiral Erich Rader has placed before the Fuhrer a plan, consequent upon the defeat of Russia, which envisioned the conquest of the Middle East, the overthrow of India, culminating in a junction of the Italian-German forces forming a giant pincer movement with their allies, the Japanese. Hitler has called this plan, 'The Great Plan'. There was one vital condition, however, for the success of this enterprise: the complete defeat of the British base at Malta. General Field Marshal Kesselring, who has been put in charge of this, wants this completed by February 1942.

Operation Pedestal was a British operation to get desperately needed supplies to the island of Malta, now on its knees, in August 1942. Malta was the base from which surface ships, submarines and aircraft attacked Axis convoys carrying essential supplies to the Italian and German armies in North Africa. In 1941 and 1942, Malta was effectively under siege, blockaded by Axis air and naval forces. To sustain Malta, the United Kingdom had to get convoys through at all costs. Operation Pedestal will be the most important convoy of the war to date with supplies of food, ammunition, and above all, crude oil and high-octane aviation fuel.

Over 600 Fulmar airframes were produced during WW2 making them widespread throughout the Fleet Air Arm, now only one remains, preserved at the FAA Museum in England. If you do not want to use the new 8x303 sounds included, then copy and replace the gun station information in each aircraft xdp file with the corrisponding text below, This will set your aircraft to use the normal 303 guns included with the AvHistory weapon set, which call on stock CFS3 303 sounds.

Note no change required for the MkII-NF plane as this is using normal AvHistory .50 cal guns which call on stock CFS3 sounds.

Open the xdp file and look for corrisponding text set, its near the top of the file.
