Great post Ted, thank you. I wasn't aware of some of these. Seriously considering cranking up my Steam version that I've had since the last $5 sale. These will be very helpful.

Note: Aimés Textures will be a 2GB+ download if you want to get them all.

Also, there are more options regarding sky and environment textures:

I've settled for Explor, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore.

Please watch the video...I also highly recommend that ENB change mentioned above as it darkens FSX just a bit...you can always change it back if you have saved the old one under a different name. BananaBob also had some great ENB changes. I love the haze that the weather changes bring...the realism really shines through. Of course the best part is the new framerates and no stutters! I have an older system 775 based system and it really runs even better than it used to-although I had no complaints before but it is nice to see what Dovetail has done to improve an already great simulation.
    Enjoy,

    Ted:

I have the regular FSX Acceleration (not Steam) installed on my hard drive. I downloaded your Nvidia Inspector setting file to examine and try them.

But what do I do with a .nip file ?? Do I just click it and let it run ??

    Thank you.

Those settings are actually Jordan King's and yes just click it and run...you can always change the settings to best fit your system.

Thanks, Ted. I'm going to try the other files you list in the first post also just to see what they do.

Thank "God" that my rig now runs FSX the way it should have for years.. No Mods, tweaks or funky things that have to be done, set, played with, etc...

I wouldn't mind trying Steam though....

Thanks Ted! I've bookmarked the thread so that I can peruse it at my leisure. Looks like there should be some good stuff in there.

Yeah, that is a good idea to have STEAM as well, Mason...I have both and both run exceptionally well for this old rig, but STEAM FSX I hardly did anything to make it run beautifully.

To those who are currently running both disc and Steam versions:

I have a high end system (4700k haswell; GTX 780 - both o/c'd +water cooled) and it runs FSX (Accel/disk version) at 30 fps smoothly in almost all circumstances. Have added Shade and just bought FTX Global and Vector.

Would Steam look that much better to be worth the bother? Have been tempted - mainly by the look of the cloud shadows - to branch out to Prep3D but have hesitated, as I know from experience I might regret - as I have in life all too often - my failing to "keep it simple stupid" and quit while I am ahead!
Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

ExPat it is still FSX but it has been streamlined to run smoother and Dovetail has made a commitment to making FSX stronger. The next time there is a $5 sale I would recommend downloading a copy for backup at least but you can run both on your computer. As for getting P3D heck, if my rig would run it I would own it! The updates are bit of pain in the arse but P3D has as a long future ahead of it from the what I see.

That's what I did last Easter. And Dovetail take the pain out of the basic install to.
