    All aircraft carrier related files...

would anyone else like to see a stickie thread containing all Carrier related ships, aircraft, utilities, and other related files - in one location?
one could also see posts related to carrier ops - such as the 'how-to' for saving flights pre-loaded on a carrier and related links to real world websites related to the topic.

on another note: would it be popular to have a GUI that would allow a user to select and place anywhere any carrier, default or aftermarket, and then populate the deck with era-appropriate aircraft
and maybe an AI routine - maybe a tanker aircraft orbiting nearby - and the appropriate escort ships etc... or is there something like this already that I am unaware of (likely) ?

is there enough interest in either of these things?

because this stuff never gets old..

I'd be interested in the part above ^. Just have to find a Dev or someone that is interested enough that could make that happen.

I'd be interested. Links to ships and addons such as Aicarriers and ARS4, and tutorials on how to use them would be very useful.
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

On the first part, I think it'd be great. The naval aviation side of things is quite spread out, and it's hard to recall where one got all the little bits and pieces. The tutorials would be good as well.

On the second, I think there would be a healthy interest in it. To be honest, I started to create one once, for that exact purpose. But then I got distracted when it came to fooling with creating AI, and the project turned from a launcher to start the sim on a moving carrier into an experiment in creating truly adversary AI to fight via TacPack. But then I started fooling with the idea of using an external FDE to control the AI, and things got far too complicated to work on as a side interest, and... I got distracted by whatever else came next. Happens a lot with me. but yea, I think it'd be cool!

excellent Orionll - I was aware of most of these but not the pitching deck addon..!

also - I see you have linked to the .net version of aicarriers which bypasses the problematic java version - good

Question - do you have any edited presets in your VLSO file for the various FSX carrier planes? or do you know of a resource for finding the information required to accurately determine correct aircraft approach speed, max weight etc...?

GREAT question about VLSO, which is one of the best addons for carrier ops and practice, ever!! NC

delta_lima - that Flying Stations site is Great - love the HMS Victorious

Hopefully what we end up with is a one stop shop for all FSX Naval Ops associated files

RazBam included with their A6 Intruder pack an A6 Tanker version for midair refueling - Ron had also included missions with that pack one of which was a refueling mission where the tanker flew a racetrack pattern and
you could mosey up and get a snoot

sadly in one my hard drive failures I lost the Intruder pack so I dont now recall what else was in there mission-wise - but I was wondering - and this is a question for Raz, would it be possible for those missions (or just that one) to be made available separately either for a low price
or as donation-ware from SOH or the Razbam site?

OR - does anyone know how to make a simple air to air refueling mission for FSX using the available tankers

Maybe it's already been done (don't know) - but imagine invoking a tanker using the interface/variables that AI carriers has - where you pick a tanker from a list, and it spawns at a given height/speed ...

Probably been done somewhere/somehow - but I've never seen it.

    cheers,

    dl

you know that would probably work! but I've not seen it done...yet

just sitting here spit balling - remembering the mission builder in old IL2- where you could easily select a user aircraft - number of planes in your flight, take off location, time of day and weather - set waypoints - and select a carrier for landing, along with the number and type of escort
ships, course and speed. The whole process might take 2 minutes and then you could just save it as a mission, making minor changes or leaving it as is.

If FSX had similar - If there was a way to create a sort of Quick Mission Builder for FSX or P3D, whether is was Naval Ops specific or not - that would be cool
such an addon would easily be worth the same (or maybe even more than) anything FTX puts out there.

I think vLSO has an option to generate an AI tanker. I think you need to use something like Jivko Rusev's In-Flight Refueling Gauge (http://simviation.com/1/search?submi...9IFR_Gauge.zip) to be refueled, though (allows you to be refueled by any AI aircraft).

I've only ever used TacPack to handle in-flight refueling.

I shouldn't really use the term 'handle', since it implies that I'm capable of actually taking on fuel.... Sadly, that's not quite the case. I've spent sessions in the AS F-14 where I've managed to burn more fuel than I've taken on. A bit better success rate in the Superbug, but not by much...

    Milage May Vary?

You can tweak the aircraft cfg 'engine' sections to where you can fly 40 hrs and get 13,000 nm range and yet not effect the performance. And that is not the maximum, just a example. No one would accept that, or course, but you can do it. I did that with the BSG Raptor (by Bruce Fitzgerald) and it gets 80 hrs and 33,000 nm yet it does Mach 4.4 and climbs to FL 650 in a less than a minute. Yet it lands at 4 kts as it has (fictional) 'reverse thrusters' (ie: VSTOL FDEs).

Yes! Make this a sticky! I've always been interested in naval aviation since my early days in the VUSN.

    +1!

Also, I don't know if the information has been aggregated in a more consolidated way, but this thread has some good gouge (if you're Navy, you understand this term ) regarding the default (i.e. Acceleration) carrier paths. Note there are some time and date requirements to set first prior to finding the carriers.

It's a bit of a mess, but there's some good info here.

"Carrier and Convoy Planner" by the FSX@War team. http://www.fsxwar.com/?lang=en#download
Designed to be used with TacPack, but I think it works without.

great link - this looks promising, thanks for posting it - just the kind of information this thread was initiated for.

also - I'm not well versed in aircraft.cfg manipulation but if someone has the basics of what to add to a carrier based aircraft to make it functional
(ie: tailhook and launchbar entries) in FSX/Accel and or P3D - I think this would be the place.
