I like the choice in panel, as it represents one of the last Lockheed 10's that has been flying up until recent years - in particular, the Canadian-based CF-TCC: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Trans...tra/0175492/L/ And the modern instrumentation/navigational aids will allow the user to get the most out of the airplane, flying in a virtual world that represents the modern day. The AH F3F also has modern elements in the cockpit matching the modern reproductions that fly today.
The only example currently flying, owned by BATA Shoe, was recently completed in the US, and will soon be flying to the Czech Republic where its owner is based. This very aircraft was actually originally purchased brand new by BATA in 1936. As seen in this video while it was still undergoing restoration, it too has a very modern panel and cockpit cabin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzPTopBU43w another video/article about the aircraft: http://www.thespec.com/news-story/55...r-maintenance/
Fred Patterson's Lockheed 10E, N72GT, which was used in the recreation of Amelia Earhart's around the world flight in 1997, was retired to permanent static display in 2013, at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. Here is some beautiful air-to-air footage from its very last flight, flying over Seattle: https://vimeo.com/75649616 Here are a couple photos of the cockpit on this example (a beautiful mixture of old and new): https://www.flickr.com/photos/kaiserjp/9902864973/ and http://s270.photobucket.com/user/loc...09042.jpg.html and some more here: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tag...t/interesting/ I love the look of those full-circle wheels, and pilots that fly these old aircraft love them too, for the extra leverage they provide.
Looking forward to following this project, Baz!
Here are some comments by a couple pilots that have flown Lockheed 10's, as stated at the WIX forum:
"Got to fly right seat a few times. It was like herding a small building around. Make a roll input and count off several seconds for the roll to start then opposite input to halt the roll. Pitch wasn't too bad, not as slow as roll. If you kept your feet on the rudders a bit hard, you would induce a bit of snaking about. Control harmony was not a priority when designed. Sight picture from the cockpit is like a DC-3, but not as high up. It was fun to take to shows even though a lot of work."
"I was expecting it to be nimble but she definitely handled more like a transport category aircraft, slower on the controls but without the mass and momentum aspect of the larger transport birds. Still quite a lot of fun for sure."
Furthermore, here is some on-board footage of the BATA Lockheed 10A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw-LrBrNS3A
I have to say I'm surprised.. I've always imagined these to be nimble.. they certainly look nimble!!
Thanks for that John

Might as well hand over my wallet to AH.
To be absolutely honest the modern stuff is for ... something else and just needed testing ( lets keep that information just between us ). We're likely to use a mash up between N27GT ( pretty much exactly as we have a fair amount of reference for that one .. Thx Bomber for more, we collect reference! ) and the canadian CF-TCC. erring on the side of old school rather than new school. The main thing however is how much fun we're having not having to worry about MFDS/PFDS/FMC/SIDS/STARS/TCAS/LIDARS/ACRO/NYM.
Wow,
Now THAT will be one to look forward to.
One day without laughter, is one day without living.
One day without Flight Simming, is one day lost living.
The BATA Lockheed 10A is currently on its way from Canada to its new home in the Czech Republic. It overflew Greenland a couple days ago (now currently residing on Greenland's east coast, awaiting the next leg of the flight across the Atlantic), and here are some of the spectacular photos shared by the crew involved:
great pics John - thank you for posting them here...looks like the cockpit heater was restored as accurately inefficient, that is some serious weather gear them boys are wearing (sure its in case of a ditching situation but even so)
I cant wait to see what the SOH painters do with this model when it comes
Yep, I'm all in for an Electra. I love the planes of historical importance for those occasions the little man shows his interest in aviation. Makes for a nice impromptu history lesson.
But a slightly modernized cockpit such as the pics above would be a nice touch.
Yes Sir Boys and Girls; I'll take one of these as well. Thank you so much!
For the fellas ( and fella-ettes ) who dont follow us on facebook we've just put some shots of the VC from the sim ( p3d ).
We went with the Collins microline series of radios and a Sperry AP in the end.
Head over to our site for more larger pics.
I need to check the AH Facebook page more often. This is gonna be a drop-dead-gorgeous airplane. I have my credit card spring-loaded in my wallet, ready to pop out when this bird becomes available.
Yep, I'm looking forward to this very much. I can't resist a Lockheed Twin. And with the L-10 Electra, there's loads of potential paints out there. Shame about those modern radios. Just give me Com, ADF and a rudimentary autopilot and I'll fly anywhere.
For those who do facebook, here's the AH page

Will there be a vintage panel as well?
Quite fascinated..

I'd guess not as they've gone for that radio setup. It won't stop me indulging thoughWill there be a vintage panel as well?

I was hoping for an Earhart E model with vintage cockpit.
The new interior shots are fantasmic - AH is recreating a lendary legend
Hope to own a copy very soon

Stood in front of the Electra once owned by Jaun Trippe today at Gillespie airfield.
