    Question MTO scenery problems...

    Good morning,

Now that I have the revamp of the old MTO ports completed, I would like to ask everyone what the east coast of Sicily and the west coast of the Italian "toe" look like. This also extends around much of Southern Italy.

Does it look, frequently, like this? If so, are some of Sander's files missing? Or is something running interference?

This is the first issue I'd like to solve the mystery of.

    Hi,

The reason for this is that I would like to add the port of Messina, which would be impossible if the landclass and shorelines look like this.

    Rams,

I don't know if you have FS9/FS2004 civilian installed or not, but there is some add-on scenery for Italy that is quite accurate to my recollection of the area. We steamed through there on our cruise last year. I will fire up FS9 and take some screenies and post.

If memory serves me correctly, it is quite rugged and climbs away from the water quite steeply.

Taken at 500 Feet Alt. in the straights.

Port side of plane, straight ahead entering the straits then starboard side looking at the city.

Actually the way SOH posted are reverse of above.

    Merry Christmas Andrew,

My one's the same. I think Sander didn't quite complete the far southern extremity of Europe. I have the same problem with Corsica, as I'm using Jean Bomber's Corsican coast beta pack.

All the best for the new year - keep those port sceneries coming.

This how mine looks. Seems like the same as yours Rami. Hope this helps.

    Rams,

Does Rhumba's mesh cover the Med?

If so, perhaps using his in those areas?

Or, perhaps one of the FS2002 mesh?

    Good afternoon,
Break on through to the other side!

Good news...turning off the "World" scenery folder fixes the coastline issue. Translation...something is causing interference from Rhumbaflappy's watermasks.

Anything within Sander's area or Jean Bomber's / Tobob's area (Northwest and North Africa down to Alexandria, Dakar, Bermuda, Bari, Taranto, Jan Mayen, etc) show up just fine without the World folder.

That means that anything north of Trondheim, southwest of Morocco, east of Alexandria, or southeast of Trieste will not have coastlines.

So what we need to do is .bgl analyze and figure out which Rhumba watermasking files (not mesh) files are running interference.

    Good afternoon,

Here is a screenshot with the "World" folder turned off. This means that Sander's files and coastlines do cover the area. The "toe" and "boot" of Italy are also fixed.

    . . . or take a look with LWMViewer

It seems that the particular culprit is CST4610b_m (the range 4610a-d covers the Med and the range runs west to east, north to south).

    Thanks,

I will contact Rhumbaflappy and see what could be done.

    Hi Blohmundvoss,

How do you know which file to look at with LWMViewer? Is there some sort of logic with the naming of the files?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin

I'm sure Dick has a naming convention but I think it's a personal one, or maybe related to the original source files. I found the right bgls by trial and error.

(FYI - the 4510a-d range covers the area to the west of the Med i.e. Spain and the African Atlantic coastline)

One thing I did find out: the bgls are organised in groups of four and some groups - you can usually tell from the titles as per the example above - are next to each other.

If you want to quickly see where each group is located look at the *a_m file in each group in LWMViewer. This is always the NW corner of each group of four.

Thanks very much BuV - that helps. I'll make a note of that in my LWMViewer folder.

On the subject of coastlines, is there any news on the project you were working on with Sander last year? It would have been a good improvement, although I doubt if Rami would be very happy after all the work he has done on building ports.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

    Question Reply...

    Blohmundvoss,

I have another question for you. Do you know which stock CST.bgl(s) cover the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Djibouti? This is for Dombral's missions.

Sorry Rami - just spotted this.

I think the one you're after is cst4n10m

    Hi,

After a couple of weeks of being so busy I haven't had time to breathe, I got around to e-mailing Rhumbaflappy. I am awaiting his response.

    Rats!

I'm sure this won't be news to anyone, but while deleting cst4n10m may fix the problem with the Italian coastlines, it plays merry hell with Greece's coastlines.

    Worthless,

I know about this. I spoke with Rhumbaflappy about recompiling the .bgl file to remove Italy and Eastern Sicily but keep the rest, and unfortunately, he declined. I'm not sure how to go about this, except to say when flying in Eastern Sicily and Southern Italy, to put aside that file, and put it in for the Balkan, Eastern Med, and Cretan campaigns.

Thanks for the clarification, Rami. It's an easy solution.
