    Unhappy Unsuccesful conversion

    Hi everybody!

I just tried converting MVG3d's splendid Macchi C.205V for FS9 to dress it up with Manuele's new ANR repaint.

I used Morton's mkMDL utility but the below is the best I could get. After all the passages, Convert back to FS2002-Convert to CFS2-Fix Animations, control surfaces are permanently stuck in unnatural positions and aren't animated, the tail gear remains permanently retracted and shock absorbers animation sometimes shoots the right wheel up in the air and stays like that.
The only animations I could get to work properly are the cockpit canopy and the ventral radiator flap.........

Is this model so advanced that's beyond conversion limits or is there something that can be done?

Obviously, by someone more skilled than yours truly...

    Thank you!

    Thumbs up

    KH,
I managed to get the ailerons level, but the other surfaces such as the rudder and the elevators are now fixed. The tailwheel retracts, but I can't get rid of the main wheel prob. I've tried several things but nothing.
We've visited this prob before and I can't remember the answer, if there is one!

If not, then scasm is the way or MVG letting us have the source file and make it for CFS2............OR there is another way....but a lot of work..

    Cheers

Well Shessi, yours sure looks better than mine! In my conversion the tailwheel retracts too, but look at the shot I posted: it does not extend fully, does yours extend like it should?

I'd be already glad to have your conversion. By the same token, should I beg on my knees Manuele for a CFS2-workable mdl?

    Cheers!

Yes and no, I don't think it fully extends, but certainly it's better than the initial conversion.

Yes, you're most welcome to it, nice looking bird.

Re-the source file. Manuelle works in Gmax, so you would have to get his Gmax source file, and then someone work on it. I doubt he would do a CFS2 mdl, you could ask though??

The other prob is that the main model is a big 2.6Mb (for a small fighter), so you would have to make it multi-LOD, to be really usuable.

Maybe time fitting the texs you want onto another more usable C205, would do the job?

    Cheers

The model prob uses L_Aileron_Key, R_Aileron_Key for the ailerons. Rudder_Key for the Rudder and L_Elevator_Key, R_Elevator_Key for the Elevators. These keys don't work in CFS2 and I don't think MDLC knows that they need to have the _Key removed from them and the animation needs to be moved to 50% up/down.

    Yeah, you're right Allen.

And then the Keyframe Animation (in scasm) needs to be converted to Transform_Mat.
Similar to this example from a Sepecat Jaguar.

Then there is also scasm's auto function explained several times by Simonu. It's in the threads here.

    ;Animate( :[ -1 ] 0x98 0x01 0x00 656.5705566406 259.0955505371 929.3594360352 )
    Transform_Mat( a 656.5705566406 259.0955505371 929.3594360352 0 0 0 )

Jumps and calls need to be checked and corrected also. It can add up to a huge chore on some models.
Child parts and such. Guess it all depends on how much a person wants the aircraft.

    Hi,

like other conversions uploaded I don't think the framerate performance of this model would be an issue. It can always be used for the real sim-pilot only, while having IS4G's old Macchi C.205 in ANR colours flying as AI.
B.T.W.: IS4G's livery depicts Adriano Visconti's C.205, Commander of 1st Gruppo ANR and Gorrini's direct superior officer, thus making a perfect AI wingmate for MVG3d's C.205.

Besides, should anyone come up with missions/campaign for the air war over Northern Italy during 1943-45 period, ANR patrols would never be composed by more than two-three aircraft at a time, such was the historical capability of Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana. I don't think the presence of just one non multi-LOD model would degrade CFS2 performance significantly, particularly with the power of recent computers.

I just wrote a PM to Manuele Villa, aka MVG3d, asking him if he could kindly help with this conversion. Hopefully, he will.

    Cheers!

    MVG3d's C.205 Gmax source files

    Hi Allen,

please don't me. After the exhausting work you did turning CD's RAF object library into Gmax objects, I am here again to bug you.

I just received from Manuele Villa, aka MVG3d, the Gmax source files for all of the Macchi C.205V he designed for FS9. I offered them to Shessi first, knowing how overloaded with CFS2 projects you are, but, alas!, he does not work with Gmax.

Could I please forward them over to you, so that you could see if it's possible fixing the MVG3d's C.205V conversion bugs?

There's no need to convert all of them for the time being, just the Series 3 C.205 armed with 20mm wing MG151 cannons. I could then pack it with Manuele's fine repaint he just did for me in the colours of the aircraft flown by F.O. Luigi Gorrini for ANR. I already converted the repaint for CFS2.

My intention is to upload a conversion for CFS2 dedicated to the memory of F.O. Luigi Gorrini, MOVM, the last surviving Italian WWII fighter pilot recently passed away.

If you kindly agree, you could send me a PM with your e-mail address or mail it to me at kelticheart@libero.it, I was able to reduce the two Gmax source files size I received to a 5.07Mb zip file. It shouldn't be a problem to send it out as an e-mail attachment.
Manuele was so kind to send me also the Excel worksheet he uses that includes all the animation keys, which I duly included in the zip file.

    Thank you !

Wasn't there a vid posted by Mav after he converted the C.205 VELTRO.

I seem to recall it, but don't remember the thread.
Shessi was having a conversation with him ???

Edit: Found the thread but it's not much help. Pictures gone and the link is dead.

    If its all there...

I could take a look. I don't know how to do the animations very well. So they need to be ready to go. It should be just a mater of renaming the parts to match CFS2 right. Or am I way off on this?

    Allen, what do you think?

Well either way I could take a look and see what I could or couldn't do. Allen will get involved at some point if I do, I'm sure. Sorry man you're my go to.

Shessi, you need to get into Gmax. LOL Just think of all the fun your missing.

    Thank you Allen!

I just downloaded them and I'll test them tonight.

I sent you Manuele's Gorrini repaint converted for CFS2, the pack includes my CFS2 prop texture.

All I need to do now is tailor IS4G's flight model for Manuele's C.205 and then upload the conversion for everybody's enjoyment. Manuele Villa/Italian Wings' creations are all such beautiful models that they can't be left out of the combat environment of their original counterparts!

    Nice one Allen,
Just a little tweak. I modified the pilot to hold the joystick, and if you notive MVG didn't put any joystick in the external model, which is strange? So I've added the joystick and modified pilot, which makes it look a little better.

If you feel so inclined and want to add them, I've attached the gmax file, I'm not sure if it will smoothe though.

Not sure if I will add the stick as it will take about 7 to 10 mins for each model to go from gMax to a CFS2 MDL. My old PC just can't keep up with these new FS models.

    No probs, just a thought.

I know the feeling, it's like waiting for the kettle to boil..takes ages some of these large large FSDS file to build an mdl...lol.

    Test flight report

    Hi Allen,

I tried your converted mdl and now the control surfaces all look and work good. Unfortunately, the tailwheel still doesn't extend fully and the main gear suspension still shoots both wheels upwards as soon as the C.205 meets bumps on the ground. It's not a big deal when taking off from a paved runway, but in grass airfields it's quite bizarre to watch. Not only, in "hard" flight mode I crashed during takeoff 7 times out of 10 as soon as the shock absorbers started to work.

I increased their dampening in the aircraft.cfg, but I am afraid I'll have to increase it further.

Apart from the above, Manuele's C.205 flies well with IS4G's C.205 Flight Model. I am experimenting with the engine data, I want this model to reach her historical top speed in level flight of 650 kmh (403.891 mph). Right now, she is still about 62 mph short of the mark.

The VC is clearly visible, but I haven't started placing gauges in it. It'll be a challenge since the FS9 VC is totally incompatible with CFS2.

I am attaching for you the dp file with adjusted muzzle flashes and exhaust effect, plus a gauge-controlled exhaust effect for this model. I did not touch damage and crash boxes, I am not too good at modifying them.
You'll find also the adapted FM for you to try out and lightened glass textures, both for the cockpit and the VC, which I thought were too dark.

Let me know what do you think.

    Cheers!

Taill wheel is full down and matches how it is animated in gMax. If it needs to be down more it will have to be edited in gMax. This is not my doing. It was sent to me with the tail wheel how it is. The wheels shooting upwards is kind of my bad. That is because the *SIDE*_tire_still *SIDE*_tire_slow *SIDE*_tire_blurred dose not convert to CFS2 right. I will have to rename one of them to *SIDE*_tire and delete the other 2 tires.

Here is both models with the flying off wheels fixed. Not only did i have to do the wheel rename but had to add the wheels to the Interior/VC model.
