Miles 'n Miles To Go Before I Sleep

Pre-dawn darkness. A chilly October morning and all the papers have been signed.

Off I go on the marathon... speaking of which, it will be fitting that Stage One will be to the home of the Olympics - Athens.

Since the Miles has not had a full test of it's endurance or mine I might as well get that out of the way early on. The scribbled notes show it's ONLY 1310 nm to Hellinikon!

    Onward I go!

Good luck. I hope you have a DeHav' Gipsy engine in front of you. Safe hands.

As M. Poirot would say: " The dawn, she begins to break as I commence the crossing of the sea. The beacon of the harbour at Oostend is being pointed on the nose and the Gypsy she sings a sweet song. In 25 minutes I shall cross into Belgium!"

In less than 10 hours I should be seeing the lights of that most historic of cities, Athens. Time now for une petite dejeunee.

Ostend! I am now over Belgium and Europe. In fact, 3 minutes ahead of plan. Charleroi (S. Brussels) next
Level at 7000 and the sun is slowly rising as is is wont to do in this late fall season.

    All is well

I'm not THAT slow! well into Germany now - past Baden-Baden, heading for Friedrichshafen and the Zeppelin factory. Besides, I had to choose between the beer and chocolat Belgique - it was breakfast, mon ami.

Skies mostly clear, up to 9000 now in anticipation of higher ground a couple of hours ahead. Winds are not significant and the sun is glorious!

Noting a very odd track on fs-duenna, but Pffft!

Just curious. Did you bring along a lady passenger to attend to the knitting? Or did you Miss Lay her?

Just past Innsbruck, climbing to 11,700 to ease the slalom through the Alps.

Nice weather, light winds and a great view of the early-season ski-bunnies.

Having traded rocks and clouds in Austria for thunderstorms in northern Italy, I'm just past LIPI and about to make the short ocean crossing to Slovenia.

Back down at 7000 it's much warmer than the -4*C over the Alps.

6 hours down, about 5.5 more to go...

Well done sir! Hope the rest of your journey goes as well. After nearly 12 hours sitting still I should think you have a numb b*m! Don't get a DVT.

Deciding to leave the passenger behind has helped mine... there is sufficient room to move a bit and even do some aerial yoga to prevent DVTs and related aches.

Long periods of boredom, punctuated by moments of stark terror!

An hour less than estimated thanks to nice tailwinds but then where's the airport? why did I use 8000' to land? Fatigue?

Off to Jask (and maybe Karachi)

via the lower coastal route, although I hate to waste the distance but the terrain further north is less pleasant.

Time to escape the wonderful seaside resort of Jask.
On to Karachi and Allahabad, perhaps all-at-once...

Decided to give a pass to Karachi and going direct to Allahbad (heck, it's only 13 hours... right...)

So, 3 hours left. Time to ration the cucumber sandwiches.
