    FTX Yosemite El Capitan Scenery

I have this new freeware scenery installed and have the FTX Northern California scenery also installed. Question (and its a dumb one!) is how do I find El Capitan? What airport etc to fly from and does anyone have a flight plan?

Start at airport O68 and head northeast.

(there is a map in the ORBX forum for this scenery if that helps, I couldn't find it either until I visited forum)

El Capitan is a vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park, located on the north side of Yosemite Valley, near its western end. The granite monolith extends about 3,000 feet (900 m) from base to summit along its tallest face, and is one of the world's favorite challenges for rock climbers and BASE jumpers.

A trip between airports O68 and O24 should pass over the area about half way.

    El Capitan

Using the Freeware ORBX Yosomite, I was able to eventually find El Capitan. I chose the helo to drop in and there are a few tourist buildings and other outposts below along with
    parked cars etc.

Leave from Mariposa Airport, fly about 065 True (don't know the variation) for about 30 miles. Climb to about sixty five and if you're vis is good, you'll have it in sight before you get there.

Only thing is, Mariposa Airport in real life is KMPI
    In FSX = O68.

i would have thought El Capitan was to the left in this "pic"..half dome is far right..but id swear it was to the left of this...maybe not..as i said been many years since i was there.

Yep, that isn't El Capitan. Paul has the correct route... O68 (in FSX) to O24 will put one right over Yosemite Valley. Bear in mind that the summit of El Cap is above 7500', Half Dome is about 8800', and Tioga Pass (on the way to O24) is almost 10K (with granite near 12K on either side of the narrow pass... not an endeavor for the faint of heart). Park regs require 2000' AGL.

This new scenery is very nice... the coloring and rutting of both El Cap and Half Dome are very accurate, and all the falls working is a great touch.

Not being familiar with the area, I research a little more in depth the landmarks in question. I did come across a nice video by ORBX of the Yosemite Valley done in P3D.

Spring of 1970 I spent the Spring in the Valley climbing and we did the nose route on El Cap, NW face Halfdome and a bunch of the now classic routes. El Cap took us 5 days! Done much quicker now days!
