Nice! Here's some kodaks I shot of the real deal, in 1984-ish, at the Madera "Gathering of Warbirds" at Madera, California. The P-38 was my favorite fighter even before this. I had seen and heard warbirds before. There were plenty at this event. But the sound of this airplane was jaw dropping. It was so different. It sounded more like a heavy turbo-prop (think P-3, E-2) when it flew past.

At one time during the race the wife and I sought refuge from the hot sun under her wing. The only shady spot available in the paddock.
