Question Building a new PTO theatre

I am trying to get this one installed without having to D/L the old D.O.A. to get the scenery per his instructions..any suggestions as more current scenery adds that would work. Also am confused a bit by his note to add Maskrider's Milne Bay. Not sure what this is as I cannot find it. I have the Guy Boullenger one, but nothing in that title by Maskrider.

    HP.......

........could be wrong but maybe you would want to get Uncle T's Papua New Guinea pack and use that instead of MR's old Milne Bay. T's includes Milne Bay in it.

Icon28 didn't search that far then...

Maskriders site has Milne Bay incorporated into his Papua New Guinea scenery.

    Go to http://mask-rider.net/MaskRider2008/...s-scenery.html

Includes all airfields in MR PNG mini packs: Milne Bay, Seadler Harbor, Kokoda Track, etc..

Thanks fella. I should have known it was included in a later scenery install. I'll give her a try.

    airfield-scenery issue

This is view of Lae attack by P-40 from Talon's Battle of Bismarck Sea -2012 version. I apparently have improperly installed either airfield or basic scenery--ships are on land! Any suggestions? I have both cfs2 Africa-Asia water and cfs2 pacific coast installed--is that a problem?

    Building a new PTO theatre

With all the goodies to set up in this area I suppose one must be aware that some downloads will not work with the new Rhumba mesh. Are there instructions within all these that indicate if they work with the new mesh or not? There are sceneries, airfields, airfield backdrops, airfield scenery, enhanced textures, pacific texture sets, various port GSL's, etc etc.all by different authors. How would one intelligently select so as to not create ships on land, airfields and buildings in water, square beach coastal scenes. etc?
The more I try to set these up, the more confused I get as to which will work with which. One suggestion earlier was to set up and "old mesh" PTO and a "new mesh" PTO. Good idea if you knew which of these items to put where.

Eine neue version oder eine Anpassung an Rhumbaflys mesh wäre wünschenswert!

You will have to translate for me, but I would not use Rhumba's new mesh in the "old" PTO and use it in the "new" PTO. I know some of the scenery is not compatible with the new mesh, or at least I don't think so.

Dvslats did a PTO installation guide:

    http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=49&id=6050

Also, most CFS2 PTO sceneries made pre-date Rhumbas new mesh, so an "old" install is the way to go. Similarly, most mission & campaign packs pre-date the new mesh. If the file date is older than the file dates for Rhumbas mesh, the add-on was made earlier & there may be issues in a Rhumba mesh install.

However Rhumbas mesh is more accurate, & transforms the globe beyond the immediate SOPAC area.

The few sceneries I've done will work with both "old" or "new" installs, but were designed to take advantage of Rhumbas new world mesh.

Texture sets won't change the bumps in the landscape, they just change the appearance. Similarly airfield backdrops won't work unless you've installed the add-on airbases - the various read me's for add-ons are pretty clear on these things GSL add-ons change objects in the landscape.

The only thing I know that might turn water into land is messing up the scenery.cfg or (possibly) multiple watermasks conflicting.

    Uncle Tgt
I am aware of the edited Rami PTO guide but have been reluctant to use it for the very reasons you stated regarding Rhumba's new mesh ( March 2009). I have used his new mesh in the E.T.O. and M.T.O. theaters an like it very much but want to keep it simple for my simple mind. Not having an artists brain, I have had some diffculty not having a "picture" in my mind as to how all these various components interact with each other or not interact. So if I don't have specific instructions, I am not likely to go wandering off on my own.
I am going to proceed as I planned to used the older, original mesh where needed with the various missions by Talon, Skylane, and others and see how it works out. There is enough available flying in this sim to last my lifetime for sure
I have an AVG theater(Talon) and a S.E. Asia theater(Skylanes' Ceylon,Malaya, Java and Singapore missions) working good with the original install scenery.
    Thanks for the input.

    Question Beach and waves?

Why is it that all the standard airfields in CFS 2 PTO free flight show nice beach and waves on the beach. None of the other installed scenery etc have no beach at all. Just abrupt land to water. ??

    Highpockets,

The original CFS2 stock scenery has that feature, which is why Dvslats kept my recommendation in the PTO install guide to not discard the stock coastlines. The only people who are able to replicate those coastlines are those who create custom scenery...

    Jean Bomber
    MaskRider
    Pen32Win
    Tobob
    UncleTgt
    Brunosk
    Sander De Cocq. (SdC)

Otherwise, in most areas of the world outside these regions, it is as you describe. From my understanding, replicating the original CFS2 look is a major pain in the keyster.

    Rami,

I am aware of the edited install file for PTO using Rhumba's 7 & 8 mesh, but I thought I was supposed to stay away from that if using some of the older missions prior to March 2009. I don't know how c2nasiawater, c2afwater and CFS2Coastpacific come into play or if they do and where they should go. This scenery business is not Greek, it is Arabic! I have a real mental block I guess

    Highpockets,

No, that's a mistake. You can use the LOD 5, 7, and 8 elevation mesh, no trouble at all.

What you want to avoid is the "water masking" sets for the Pacific, because using them will alter the coastlines and put a great deal of coastal airfields underwater. They will also take away the coastlines you so enjoy, except for those made by the scenery architects listed above.

He (Rhumbaflappy) says as much in the description..."CFS2 Watermasks 1 of 2 These are replacement watermasks for CFS2. These new watermasks are based on SRTM elevational data and watermasking, and are probably much more accurate than the airfield placement. As a result, airfields may need replacement, or the odd display simply ignored."

That's why it is recommended that you add the mesh but NOT the new coastlines.

    Highpockets,

The CFS2 water packs that you are listing here ARE used for the Pacific and any Asia install. All of the airbases which are not designed to work with Rhumba's newest (2009) coastlines will work with the older ones. (This is about 95% of them)

You should install these by adding them into a folder (you can use the same folder for all three) and then add it to your scenery.cfg file. If I were you, I would add them and the Rhumba LOD mesh (5, 7, and 8) as the first four layers of your scenery.cfg file after the stock files. This will give you your base scenery for everything to fit on top of.

OK, Rami, think I got it! . I am going to print this out and go Dove hunting with my two sons, two grandsons and one great-grandson south to San Antonio this weekend. I will get to my PTO redo next week.

    Thanks

y wish for the future is a new PTO Manual and Vanila Compatible Airfields for Rhumbas Mesh.

I have used for this screens a CFS 2 vanilla install with the dem4km, DEM 5, DEM7 and DEM 8. I have not installed Rhumbas water. I have update the Airfields with
Gavin Colts Default Ms Bases update version for Rhumbas Mesh.

Elsner, I agree with you. But there's not much of a queue for people interested in making new coastlines & more accurate eye-candy , so you're stuck with the default coastlines & watermasks, or Rhumbas watermasks but no coastlines.
