    New Virtavia A-4 repaints

Here's the first of several repaints for the Virtavia A-4. This is also my first FSX repaint! Should be packaged and up before the weekend.

BTW, anybody know how to disable that really annoying gyro spin-up sound each time any of the A-4s are selected to load?

Beautiful paintwork! That gyro sound is .\Sound\DeadPixl\SND25.wav. Attached a silent dummy WAV file you can use as a replacement:

    This. Right there. Awesome.

I don't have such a sound. But I do have a nasty looping sound when I apply the brakes - very strange.

Can't wait Steve - looks just spectacular.

Man, those take me back to the 1970's when I was a major plastic modeller as a kid. Built many, many monogram 1-48th scale scooters. :-) These look great!

And that sound is annoying. unrelated, but when you pan around front of Dino Cattaneo's S-3 you get a reverb from radar as well (I suppose), which I wouldnt mind deleting!

WOW! The 70's! I think you and I may know each other from back in my IPMS Atlanta days! Us old guys kinda started bowing out to you young whipper snappers in the mid to late 90's.

Were you part of that IPMS group?

delta_lima - Glad you like it! Kinda thought you might be interested in that first Marine A-4!

Ian Warren - Thanks very much!

Here are a couple more that will hit the library about the same time.

Ooooh ... the Blue Blazers looks yummy too!

    Thanks for the Marine bird!

Hschuit, tried that sound file, and I still get an annoying sound when I apply brakes - whether park or toe - on the SDB CVN-65. Fine on shore though ... how strange. Anyone else get this sound on that boat? If this goes pear-shaped, we'll take it to the old A-4 thread ...

thanks Steve - they look great.

DL, my conversation with Duckie was about blocking the gyro spin-up sound, this has nothing to do with the brakes sounds. Looks like those brakes sounds are a bit more complicated because different WAV's are used depending on whether you engage, hold or release the brakes. To give you a clue: Try to substitute the following WAV's in the .\Sound\DeadPixl folder with a silence WAV: SND28.WAV, SND29.WAV, SND32.WAV.
Obviously the replacement WAVs need to have the exact same names as the originals, if the sound module does not find the proper file name the sim will crash.

You the same Steve Bryant that did some KICK ASS modeling back in the days of Historical Hobbies (Sam Lyons place before he got to be a painter?) Guys like Bud Colvin and John Ficklen? i used to split my time between Sams shop and Bill Northcutts place in Sandy Springs.

I was around. I was a kid. 17-18 years old. I havent built a model in years because of sims. A lot less dust and the wife doesnt find me hiding in the basement over a work bench at 2 in the morning with a paint brush and glass of bourbon. I have to admit, now that my kids are grown, I am thinking hard about going back to it. I specifically remember a 32nd scale P-51 you did that I always admired. email me at ejoiner2@gmail.com

And Im gonna download everyone of those amazing repaints for the Scooters. I see you still have your touch. I probably have 80 repaints or so mainly at avsim over the past several years.

LOL! One in the same! Takes one to know one! Those were the days!

I haven't seriously cut plastic since about 1995 (done a few commissions but nothing else), about the time I found FS and my daughters started getting involved with boys! I started paying a whole lot more attention to that!

Great to know you're still about. There is probably more of "us" hanging out at these sim haunts than we think!

    Fun times. (Truly.)

I may honestly start back hacking plastic one day.

Great, Steve, you are doing some more fine paints for the Scooter. Admire your recent work on the RAZBAM A-4's that are looking good as AI. Now that Mal has the FDE very well sorted I am in re-discovery mode with the Virtavia A-4. Will be adding some of the navaids Jafo has been using in his navair panels. Only wish we could get one or two more Essex variations of gp183601's Oriskany, e.g. a Hancock, Bonnie Dick, and Intrepid (even just by changing the cv number, but that is apparently not straight forward) for SEA ops.
Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

Thanks expat. Haven't gotten into the AI in FSX yet. But it's pretty high up on my list of things to learn.

Hey, Mike, 2 problems with that particular skin (for me anyway). The green fuselage banner won't work because of the texture stretching near the top of the fuselage, and as far as I could find, VBA-305 never flew the E or F, only the C and L.

Am more of a fan of the no-hump E, but the colours on this later '212 F model are (imho) just are a bit nicer than on the earlier cruise 212 E model schemes with the white rudder ...

Just food for thought. Your VMA-121 paint is already one I'm eagerly looking forward to.

Thanks, D_L. Let me see what I can do with that. That is actually one I was considering!

    transitional period ?

    Great news.

Are you a purist? If so, I understand. If not, I know this is a nice "M" from '311 from the very early 80s ....

Same period, different bird (boring BuAer no ... ) ... but might help for ref sake ...

Looking forward to the '121. Between you, Zsolt, Frank, and Skyhawk, the Scooter is getting all the paint love she deserves. Really looking forward to the FDE update too ...

    Hey Steve,

Flew the '121 Green off Gary's Midway for some carrier testing. Lovely paint! I ran out of time to try the '164 - and I really like that you appear to have added a custom helmet to that paint. For 60s and 70s eras, that's an awesome touch.

    Cool helmets, huh?

Thanks again for your great work on the Scooter ....

Thank you DL. I added the orange chevrons to the 164 pilot's head gear based on the photo I had. Glad you like it. VA-93 will be up later today. I'm going ahead with the 212 bird with a different side number since I had already created a new shield and did a few hours research before I knew there were others out there.

Also have an "F" in the works of VA-113 Stingers which they only flew for a short time before converting to A-7Bs.

I learned something new from you today ... I didn't realize '113 used the F before going to the Corsair ... I always thing of A-4Cs in the context of VA-113. Cool. Who knew ...
