    Flight1 Cessna 310L

Didn't want to hijack the sticky on Rob Richardson's marvelous new Cessna 310B - looking forward to the repaints in the works.

Dug out this old favorite. It was my very first payware aircraft for FS, worth every penny of its $22. An FS2002 "ported" over to FS9, getting it to work in FSX is a bit of a job. Now on on my 64bti W7 rig, the gauges it came with refused to install despite spending all Sunday morning refreshing and getting new "licence keys" from the F1 website - which has to be the most stupid and annoying payware procedure yet devised.

Not to be defeated, I swapped out gauges from 3 or 4 other cessna twins and though not finished - there remain some anomalies- the results are encouraging. In particular, the overall look of the VC for a 10+ year old FS aircraft isn't too badby today's standards.

Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

Remember that one very well. I think that was the first "payware" aircraft I ever bought. Glad you are having some luck getting it workable again.

That was the first and I think the best GA payware aircraft I owned in FS9. I still dig it out and fly it once in a while.

I also flew it a lot but I couldn't get the gauges to work properly in FSX. When you clicked on the suitcase it opened to reveal ....I can't remember now!

. . maps! . . I think. It doesn't open anymore but I now have it working well with some genuine C310 parts borrowed from my Milviz 310R.

Just came across the old thread.

I've just tried the old Flight 1 C310 in FSX:SE , but in the VC I've got black internal textures (gauges show ok).

In the internal view windows are clear, the prop discs are black, but in the external view both the prop discs and windows are black.

I can't find my original purchase d/l file and I just copied the aircraft across from a FS9 backup HD.

Did anyone get this to show properly in FSX ?

    Thanks for any help.

Yes I had it ported over and working just fine in FSX Gold edition. Been in P3Dv4 since 2017 however where it is a no go.

You are missing textures for these. Open up the model in Model Converter X and in the textures click on each with the highlight box checked. Then you can see what you are missing which obviously is in the base texture file. I hope that helps. If you have one big texture sheet like some default MS your are "Dead In The Water". I don't have this, I have the MilViz one so someone with this model maybe can help more. BTW, I agree with that Flight1 Wrapper junk. Phooey!!!!!!!!

check your texture.cfg file in each texture folder - is there a fallback reference to a common folder or other texture folder? missing folders referenced can cause this. Also the props can be modifed by changing the ALPHA color -

Just installed from the "setup.exe" installer rather than going through the "wrapper". Interior looked better than expected. . . . .

Then I went outside, lol. . . . .missing something? Hmmmm?

I also have a "VC_Gauges" file and an update file that I haven't installed yet so I'll see if that fixes anything. By the way, the props looked fine on startup.

    FSND Cessna 310Q

Freeware at Simviation. Just downloaded it and installed to my FSX Sp2 Box. It's a little old but still nice and with FPS at 35+ at my custom airport 60J there's nothing wrong with that. It's a little late to fly for me now but tomorrow I'll put it through the paces. Here is a screenshot.

    That's a nice looking 310Q.

In my Flight1 C310 aircraft texture folder these are the only textures ....

There's no 'common' texture folder. I had a look on one of my old FS9 back up external HD's ( where I copied this aircraft from ) and I can't find any other folders for this.

I know this worked properly when I had FS9 installed as it was one of my favorites.

It certainly looks like I'm missing some textures , but I have no idea where I might find them.

OK, I did not see it was an FS9 plane. FS9 did not share textures from what I can remember

Just a guess, but I'd suspect that the missing "common" textures folder is actually the "textures" folder contained within the main FSX folder. FS9 models often put the basic textures in the "textures" folder to reduce the size of the individual skin folders for each aircraft variation.

That's correct, I installed from my original "setup.exe" file and after the installation there are folders for "Gauges", "effects", "sound", "texture" and the aircraft itself. The texture folder contains the ones we refer to as "common or shared" textures.

    Success

Many thanks for all your help.

I found the missing 'common' textures in the FS9 texture folder.

Despite the age of this aircraft , it's still a magnificent design, and flies well in FSX.

Do you have working switches? I have no gauges on the pilots side. . . .aaaaaand. . .the left engine will start but then dies about 20 seconds in.

My gauges are all showing, but the switches in the VC are a bit difficult to use.

Some work but some don't, although when scrolling over them the indication are that they should work but there's flickering when scrolling over the switch, which makes it hard to use. I've kept the 2D panels so I can use the switches and mixture levers.

I could start the left engine with Ctrl-E, but not the right.

I'm not sure why your pilot side gauges are missing.

I several different panel.cfg's in a backup folder ( there must have been a mod issued sometime in the past ). Try this VC section ( this is what I'm using ) .....

Regarding the missing gauges - If I recall correctly, there were two versions of this model available, one using RXP gauges, and the second using standard gauges. It's been a long few years since I used this plane, but I recall having to replace all the RXP gauges with standard ones to get the panel fully occupied...

Again - Just a guess, it's been a long, long time since I messed with this plane, and I don't even have FSX or any of the install files anymore to check. Good luck!

  21. #21
Replaced the missing gauges and made a pop-up for switches. I was able to use "autostart" to crank both engines and replaced the prop blur with a better looking one.

Well, I'm content that what I have is flyable, but I did try an experiment. I thought that possibly because I used the "setup.exe" file rather than going through the wrapper system (never did like that) that maybe there was an "anti-theft" program inserted to keep everything from working as it should. . . .ahh nope, lol

Even installing using the wrapper it made no difference. I did notice that starting from the VC (as already noted earlier) only the left engine would start. . .but then die about 20 seconds later. If I started from the 2D cockpit both engines started and remained running.

Now if some clever person could run it through the MCX model converter thing so it works in P3D 64 bit!
