    Another day at Schiphol.

Yesterday was a good Sunny day to take a drive to Schiphol Amsterdam and see some action; Lucky for me this time the 18L/36R was used for take-offs, usually it's used mostly for landing.

But what's great about Schiphol is the variety of birds in the area:

    Eurasian coot:

Those are some nice pictures all the way around. Great shots on the birds though...just last month I started taking picture of KPAE's local inhabitants:

Great dragonfly shot john; those things are hard to catch in mid-air!

Man....if you were at Schiphol, you should have slipped over to the Aviation Megastore. I visited there about this time of the year in 2012, and LOVED the place! I think I spent about $500 on books and had them shipped home....

Possibly the last trimotors we'll see over here..:

The Yantgze River Express, looks like they dragged this one out of the same river..:

    KLM's old livery on a 747:

And the new one; I think it is an improvement:

And of course some birds, like these geese:

And one of my favourites, the Great Crested Grebe:

Ferry, re KLM liveries old and new - what exactly is the difference? Is it the bendy waistline ??

And, I have always wondered why KLM don't wear orange.......

Yes, that's the only difference. It was designed this way for the 787 and the Embraers, so that the dark blue cheat line would run through the center of the nose cone, not above it. How ever the KLM decided to incorporate it on all models, but on the 737, 747 and 777 the line now ends below the center of the cone..

I do like the look of the aircraft now though, with slightly more blue on the front.

Orange would be fun, but I'm not sure if Air France would allow such an act of patriotism anymore.. Last year, just before King's Day the KLM posted a photoshopped photo of a partially orange painted aircraft, and of course some intrepid Fs repainters jumped on it:

Nice pictures Ferry. I particularly like the bird shots. We don't have the Crested Grebe here. We have the Pied Grebe. I love watching and photographing them. They are quite the fishermen. I once watched one try to eat a fish that was as big as its head and neck. After about 10 mins. it finally got it down.
