    Opinion on aircraft

What do you thing of First Class Simulation's Wellington or Lancaster for FSX.
Looking at screen shots leads me to believe it would be a good FS9 era add on but
may be on the dated side for FSX, for the asking price anyway.
I have some just flight points saved up so I am considering one of the two.
I think any ones opinion or the flight dynamics and VC will be the tie breaker.

I have looked at the Vertavia Hampden as well since it is priced so low but shots or better yet videos
of the VC are hard to find. The few VC shots I can find seem to indicate the instrument panel is extremely
    two dimensional.

I have the Lanc and like the overall models, though the maritime ones are not that accurate. The B.Mk.1S with the grand slam is particularly good. The flight dynamics seem fine and they behave well though I doubt anyone here has ever flown one to know with any authority...! The vc is fine but you're right - it's very much FS9 standard. My biggest gripe was that I didn't much like the way they were painted but I've done some new paints and there are several good ones on Flightsim. All-in-all I like it.

    Hope this helps

Don't have that particular A/C but try canadianlancasterfsx.zip over at Flightsim. That one works just fine for me in FSX. You would have to try it in FS9 if you desired. And it's FREE !!!!!

I'm tempted to purchase the FCS Lancaster. I've been flying the latest freeware at Flightsim.com canadianlancasterfsx.zip, it flys fine but some of the controls didn't port over to well from FS9.
I see there is also a repaint of FCS Lancaster for the "Vera" (Canadian plane that just flew over) on Flightsim.com. fsxcanadianlancasterfcs.zip

Edit: I think I'll pass, just doing a search the FCS has some of the same bugs as the freeware Ie Fuel tank issue.

I have both and like them both. For visuals the Lancaster is probably the better of the two but the Wellington isn't far behind.

I have both Lanc and Wellington and they both get regular use... never regretted buying them.

Are your Lancaster repaints available DaveQ? I don't mind the default Lanc paints but i'm sure yours would be an improvement. I've used my FSD P38 a lot more since I discovered your excellent paints for it.

Roger what Lanc paint is that... Its not a default one is it?

I've just downloaded and tried the canadianlancasterfsx.zip and it's missing the no. 3 engine manifold pressure gauge. 1, 2 and 4 are all there and working. Has anyone else found this?
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

I've bought both during a sale at PC Aviator at 60% off. I would never have bought those at full Retail price, but for $9 each I think it was great value.

The Hampden is an interesting aircraft, but AFAIK it is not FsX native.

Isn't that pack a portover of the FS9 planedesign Lancaster? That was a damn nice model for FS9 but I doubt very much that it reaches the quality of the FCS offering which is in MHO very good.

I'd only wish that there were more repaints for the FCS Lanc!

Does the FCS Lanc have a simple auto pilot system?

FSX Canadian MkX Lancaster - UK Tour. This is the Plane-Design MkX Lancaster converted and modified for use in FSX. It is a fully flyable aircraft with similar performance to the Dambuster series DB70 and DB71 Lancasters. It is fitted with a bomb-aimer view, 2D and VC panels with Canadian gauges but has no bombsight to drop bombs accurately. The readme gives details of the differences from the real aircraft. Images and flight plans are contained in folders within the aircraft folder. We all know the Canadian Lancaster Tour of the UK will be a resounding success and perhaps this sim aircraft will give simmers a chance to visit similar airfields and shows as the real one during its tour. The package represents Lancaster serial number FM213 painted as KB726, VR-A, of 419 Sqd (RCAF) out of Middleton St George and is called the "Mynarski Memorial" Lancaster. Package by Ross McLennan.
So if this is the Original Fs9 Lancaster: http://www.fspilotshop.com/plane-des...004-p-327.html Would this be an illegal upload....? Or did I miss another Plane Designs Lancaster that is freeware?

That's the original 2004 and the freeware was a port over of that one to FSX. Flightsim.com canadianlancasterfsx.zip

I've never looked, as I never use one anyway.
The real life version was equipped with a basic system as below.

"14A. Automatic pilot. — On early aircraft the Mark IV Automatic Pilot, and on later aircraft the Mark VIII Automatic Pilot,is fitted, driven by a compressor on the port inboard engine. See A.P. 2095 for operation, which is normal except on some aircraft in which Mod. 1161 is incorporated, when a stop is provided to prevent the control cock from being moved from the SPIN to the OUT position."
    "Illegitimum non carborundum".

No you didn't. At least not to my knowledge. Thing to ask is whether PlaneDesign still exists as an outfit! Of course, even if they don't exist anymore, it would be an infraction on copyright without the express consent of the original dev...

I for one would love to see a native FSX version of their Spitfire 16!!! So I do hope that they still are operational!

Plane Design is still going, and I believe you can still buy their models at the site:

    http://www.plane-design.com

IMO, their Lancaster external model was infinitely more accurate in shape than the FCS one. The FCS Lancaster looks downright weird from some angles, but that's just my opinion.

As for the FCS Wellington, its a good model with a very good VC, and I think its a great shame that it wasn't developed and polished to its full potential. Still worth the asking price though, and I still hope its developed further.

VRA doesnt have the bulge near the tail. If you change your aircraft.cfg entry to model=BIII instead of model=BX it will be much more accurate, if you care about that sort of thing She flies over my house every weekend (well, not lately since she's been in the U.K)

The PBY on that Flicker page looks great, I don't think I have seen that paint scheme on a warbird before. Nice.

Is the upper turret on VR A (real one) the one that was used or a stand in?

    Great feedback guys.

Yes, very simple... F.i. Ctrl-Z = AP On + Alt On, Ctrl-H = Heading On (select your own key combo to change Heading). Click again = Off. Click Z only turns AP off. Check AP Settings/Controls Menu for more options.

As it happens i'm trying to get the grips on FSX video creation. So i've put the FCS Lanc in front of my amateur camera. Nothing fancy, just a good look at the external and VC. If all went well you can view the video in 1080HD full screen. ( done with Bandicam demo and Windows Movie Maker) Turn up the volume !

Not sure of a better place to sit than in between four roaring Merlins. I think it will take a looong time, if ever, for a better native FSX Lancaster to be released. IMHO Dano (Daniel Dunn, FCS ) did a very nice job on this one. Love it !

    Cheers,

Great video Jan! It is of course my personal taste and opinion, but I think the FCS is well past the end FS9 looks.

For MDIvey: Matt Wynn did some repaints which are available at flightsim.com (just search on his name).

    Cheers,
    Huub
