    Ordnance

Here are the first three pages for Japanese ordnance, a definitions page with drawings, and pages containing the color descriptions for various bomb types, Army and Navy. Sorry about the quality, I suspect someone photocopied the originals and didn't have a very good copier/scanner. I will follow this with individual description pages for the various bombs as I have time available.

It took a few hours of digging and page tranlate but I found this pic of a 100 kg. The page said it also was the same over all shape for the 50 kg. Using the image and seting it to the measurements of the 30kg also worked fine.

I'm going to guess the slight change in fin shape may be a lost "translation" or maybe the fins where change during the war.

That looks right from what I saw in the tech manual. One line drawing and three descriptions. Oh, by the way, these drawings I'm going to post are not dimensioned, so you have to get the actual dimensions from the description page. The plethora of Type, Model and Mark numbers are confusing enough and the Navy bombs don't list the weight. The key is to add a zero behind the Number callout. Thus a No.25 is a 250Kg. The army bombs are called out by the type number and the weight. Interestingly, one of my other sources stated thet the army anti-ship bombs were better than the navy ones. The fin sizes seem to vary a bit too, I suspect it was due to efforts to cure stabilization problems. The smaller bombs seem to have slightly larger fins proportionately. The shape runs from a "Standard Land Bomb" to "Anti-Ship". I suspect this means General Purpose and Armor-Piercing respectively. I will have at least 3 more pages up today, perhaps more.

That may be good as I don't have much on the larger bombs.

The GP 30kg, 50kg, 100kg are done for the most part. They will come in Army black and Navy gray.

I'm also working in the 15kg fragment bomb. I'm not sure if the Navy used any of them and the drawing shows part of the bomb is painted but no color is given.

Ok, what I'll do is just start posting the files in page number order, army first, then navy. that way you have everything. I have to save the individual pages as seperate pdf's so it's going to take a while to do. (120+ pages) This will be the entire section covering aerial bombs. BTW the manual is TM9-1985-4 printed in 1953. Title is Japanese Explosive Ordnance from Dept. of the Army and Air Force. It's a government publication, so it's public domain.

Here's the three I've done so far today, not in any order. Page numbers are bottom corner left or right.
    Attached Thumbnails Attached Thumbnails TM9-1985-4-Japan 50kg Navy.pdf   TM9-1985-4-Japan 30, 50 and 100kg Army.pdf   TM9-1985-4-Japan 50 and 100kg Army Pg 2.pdf

Isn't that just the aspect of the line drawing? Perspective always throws me for a loop.

Just to contribute, I think Allen has already found most of the info I had found -

The "Ta Dan" aerial (cluster) bomb. I'm not even sure CFS 2 could imitate this weapon, & by all accounts it was pretty ineffective anyways, though spectacular (White Phosphorus smoke arcs on bursting)

Thinking out loud maybe the timed rocket firing at a 90 degree downwards angle, or a flak cannon at a 90 degree downwards angle would imitate it.(

(note to self - I need to try that & see if I can get a flak burst) If that works, all we need is a dedicated WP burst effect & we're in business!

I 99.9% sure rockets can't be fired anyway but forward. Using flak as a player weapon will make the flak expode soon as it leaves the gun and damage the player. You can move the gun away from the aircraft and explode at the set point.

Outstanding! Thank you very much UT. That's a much clearer picture than in the Tech Manual.

55 years worth of plastic modeling and research finally pays off! Seriously guys, I am useless at the inner workings of computers, but if I can help in any way with research, let me know. My specialty was Imperial Japan 1937-1945 so I am fairly knowledgable about that, at least.

To correct that statement , flak will work from an aircraft , by setting the Ai engagement distance the Ai open up at , I have 4 mounted on the Russian Anna TR-2 , that all shoot backwards , 3,6,9,12 oclock , The Ai really don,t like it though , Sorta makes up for player can,t aim the rear guns , Great when you had a bad day , to annilate the enemy , Sarg

Back to the grindstone. I will try to upload the rest of the Army bomb files today and then start the Navy bombs. I wrote that first line 2 hours ago, and am still trying to get the files inserted into this post. I think the local phone company took some hits from the thunderstorm last night and things aren't working so well on the dial-up side. I'll continue to work on this until the after-noon storms arrive, I only have 26 more files to finish the Army side of things.

I got quite enough for now. UncleTgt was looking for the smaller Jap ordnances and I got most of them covered.
