Actor/Comedian Robin Williams Dead at 63

Very sad news. His publicist said he had been battling severe depression for a while. Cause of death was suicide by asphyxia.

    Oh no!!!!!

He was a really funny comedian who made an appearance on Whose Line.

He will be sorely missed. :'(

Robin was a gift to the world, such as anyone like him who gives us reason to laugh and feel cheer in this sometimes painful world. One of my friends stated correctly that sometimes those who laugh the hardest and make others laugh also feel the most hurt inside. Everyday life can press many demons upon ones shoulders, let alone the pressures and emotions a person like Robin must have felt. Depression is real, and it is a killer. I've buried more than a couple of childhood friends who fell behind that ominous gray wall that they could not connect from inside of or escape from.

May their souls Rest in Peace....

Damn. What a sad loss. He was a comedic genius, but I always liked his more serious films a bit more. Why is it that we always seem to find out, eventually, that so many comedic geniuses are, in private, troubled souls? RIP RW.

Robin did many shows for our troops overseas. The measure of the man really showed when the show was over. He went to meet and see all those that were on duty and couldn't see the show. He will be dearly missed by me and my family. Thanks Robin for all you have given and all those you have touched.

I think those with troubles are drawn to the arts.

I was watching a vid of a famous musician a couple of months ago who has manic depression and he said Robin Williams had admitted that for all but one of his movies he went off his manic depression meds.

The cruel irony is the thing that makes them so driven to creativity also brings them down to the lowest depths. The medicines to treat it effects the creativity of the artist so they lose the good with the bad.

Many of the rock stars of the 60's who were known to be so wild were dealing with problems such as severe ADD. One of the destructive parts about it is that people are drawn to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to treat symptoms they don't understand. Comedians are drawn to comedy to deal with life. It is almost a cliche in the comic world to say you had a horrific childhood. It is pretty much assumed by now.

He came out one year to where I was deployed at - a great boost for us all out there!

I was trying to think of my favorite line or movie scene from him. Although I could have picked from about one hundred, my favorite is this:

Dickerson: Sir!? Do you see anything on this uniform indicating an officer? What does three up and three down mean to you, airman?

    Cronauer: End of an inning?

RIP, Robin. With he, Jonathan Winters, Pryor, and Carlin all up in heaven now, things should be pretty interesting up there.

    An irreplaceable human being.

The loss of such a gifted man at such an early age is too hard to bear, another example of how the Black Dog of Clinical Depression can take our best and brightest.
Vale Robin Williams, your death leaves us greatly saddened.

Been trying to find the words, and failing. A sad, sad loss.

For all his TV & film work, he was best when performing live. Many years ago I watched his episode of "Inside The Actors Studio" (actually two episodes, he was so good that nothing was edited out & they ran it as a special); well worth searching out online but, be warned, you will laugh until you hurt!

One question James Lipton asks all his guests is "If Heaven exists what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?". Robin, there is definitely seating at the front.

    Andy,

At a loss, I just watched that this morning in its entirety. Truly worth another view...they just edit out the video clips.

I agree on all of the above . One of my favorite actor/comedians as well . Every time I think of him saying : " Goooooood Morning Vietnam , ah , the smell of napalm in the morning " I laugh . I may have to dig up a copy somewhere . I haven't watched it in years . RIP Robin Williams and thank you for all the laughter you have given us in this crazy world of ours .
