Thread: FSX native Fokker D XXI RELEASED

  1. #151
    Hi,

It has been very interesting to follow this thread, superb work on the new Fokker(s).

Any chance of tempting you into making the Fokker CV series? The Norwegian army air force was a big user of both the CVE light bomber and the CVD fighter models and they were even license produced at the army air force aircraft factory at Kjeller. They were good multirole combat aircraft for their time, but by 1940 they showed the sorry state of the Norwegian military as the CV series was still the main combat aircraft. Even so they fought on during the Norwegian campaign in both the light bomber and recce roles.

    Hi everybody,

@JensOle: good idea, but I already have a kind of list of Fokkers that need to be done. First things first: finish the D.21, then the T.5, and then...who knows...

Did some work tonight: the windscreen should be right, I hope. I made the thing about four times... I also made the cut for the second cockpit/gunner position.

The T.5 had a camera onboard, located in the nose section. It is slightly displaced from the center (as far as I could conclude from photographs) and there's a small window on the left lower cheek. Now both windows are at both sides, because of the use of a Mirror modifier. Another fun thing is that the Fokker engineers didn't make rounded corners at the nose glazing, but 45deg rotated square plates. So I did a tedious job in rounding all corners, but it wasn't needed. Fixed that tonight.

I couldn't resist making a shot of the greenhouse from the inside. Some day, this will be the base for a VC in which I'll spend hundreds of hours, I expect. Not a bad job though.

Edit: pic of that nose glazing corners.

It's a Fokker S.IV I built several years ago. But I never really finished it. I restarted to work on this one for FSX.

Nice plane Cees, plans on publishing it?

Update on TacPack: first tests with a shooting D.21 are done and satisfactory. Now the job is to get the guns in the right position. Sadly, no tracers possible as far as I know... I remember though that late Guus Kiel (a D.21 pilot) told he saw tracers for the first time in May 1940. Anybody knows what the focus distance was of the guns? I believe I heard somewhere 300 m...

Dave Eckert's Sopwith Camel has a gun effect with tracers. And yes Daan, eventually I will publish the Fokker S.IV, but there's a long way to go. Apart from that: it's built in FSDS 3.51, so it won't be as sophisticated as your D-XXI

    Hello Daan,

How is the D.XXI coming along? I ask since I see frequent updates about the T.V, but nothing about the D.XXI

Hi stickshaker, I think I'm partly to blame for this. I have received the documentation from Daan, however due to real world issues, I haven't found the time to check/comment it. Of course I can't speak for Daan, but I think the model could be released as it is, with some further updates as TacPac compatibility as a future update. But as said, perhaps Daan has different ideas.

    Cheers,
    Huub

Ahh, now I know what I sometimes hear in the night

Thanks Huub for replying. The model is ready for release in my opinion. TacPacking the fighter is in progress, in fact I only need to add guns and some xml coding for the switches.

    Most Impressive

Just finished my first 20 minute flight with the Fokker D-XXI.

    FABULOUS

This must receive nomination as not only the best freeware aircraft of the year, but the most significant FSX release of the year as well.

This project by Daan Kaasjager, has been the definitive breakthrough project, toward freeware and a new era of payware aircraft for FSX. A new chapter is being opened, and much of that is thanks to the creator of this wonderful add-on. The Fokker D-XXI is the first FSX native aircraft, which model has been created entirely with Blender. This is a most significant statement! Congratulations! And thanks to the many fine contributors, making this a reality.

Another most wonderful part of this release, is that, to-date, it is one of the most highly detailed, and accurate WWII era fighter aircraft, ever replicated in the simulator. The rarity of the subject makes this even more outstanding. This is truly a model of highest quality, and accuracy, not seen of the D.21 in any other genre, let alone Flight Simulator. Again, congratulations!

This is a must-have for any enthusiast!

Visit the creators blog, and contribute!

    +1 Dutcheeseblend!!
