    Team Daedalus Tribute to Akemi

    Has anyone ever tried Akemi's aircraft in FS2004 ? Akemi's will be greatly missed. I received a great amount of pleasure from his aircraft in CFS2 and still have it loaded on my system but rarely fly in it anymore, but would still enjoy flying his beautiful models.

    I have been flying Akemi's Ki-84 recently in FS9--it is absolutely sublime. The trick is to get Lawdog's Homare sound and the instruments spruced up in the panel (vc entries in the panel.cfg; pixel size changed to 1024,1024). At this point it might need a BananaBob prop but I love this bird, especially with the worn-out look here:

    Actually a lot of Akemi's airplanes will fly in FS9 with hardly any mods at all. However for a better FS9 experience I suggest the following mods:

    Aircraft.cfg-add the following lines:
    • ui_manufacturer=(enter info here)
    • ui_type=(enter info here)
    • ui_variation=(enter info here)

    Panel.cfg-in the virtual cockpit entries find the line 'pixel_size' and replace the numbers (256,256 or 512,512) with 1024,1024. The gauges will look sharper and better defined.

    Sound.cfg-usually this is aliased to the CFS2 Zero. I usually alias it to the FS9 Vega or DC3 until I am able to replace the sound (usually something by Lawdog or OBIO)

    Here's the site to check out Akemi's Hangar: http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/hago/index.htm

    Also, The B24 Guy overhauled the Ki-46-II 'Dinah' (you know the one that looks streamlined without the cockpit 'step') so it will work in FS9 (IIRC it was a CFS2 mod but as mentioned it looks fine in FS9). That is here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=53&id=5278

    I flew Akemi's Fw-190A's and D's in FS9 for a while. They are some real eye candy even to this day. Finding a prop mod that worked was a real trick though. Most of the ones I had in my collection didn't show up right.

    The only aircraft from Akemi's which were hardly flyable in FS2004 were the 2006 version of his Zero's and 2007 version of his Kawasaki Ki61s. But with some tweaking they could be used in FS2004 as well.

    Personally I think these were definitely among the best models Akemi ever did, as they combined an excellent external model with a beautiful VC.

    I have flow his FW190s for a very long time. Great models and compared with the FS9 models from a very welknown payware company, much better priced and a far more accurate external model........ Especially with ChrisN's beautiful textures.

    For sure I will try at least one of the Team Daedalus FW190s in FS2004 as they are definitely worth their price....

    Cheers,

    I've tried many of them and they work very well. Some may require an adjustment or two to the contact points or roll/pitch/yaw moi entries in the aircraft cfg file but as Drzook and BB said the results are well worth it. Many fine textures can be found in the CFS2 library and they all look great in FS9.

    The Team Daedalus model will work in FS9 but with the pilot is missing, in this version , the pilot is an weapon object added to the CFS2 OBJECTS-DP and SCENEDB folders, This model is best enjoy'd in CFS2, im guessing you could install the old Akemi model and just use the repaints from the updated model.

    Thanks for the tips!

    I've downloaded a few models from Akemi's site, and the Ki-46 Dinah mentioned below. I made the changes as per Drzook's recommendations, and added a Wasp sound pack I found at FlightSim. Looking forward to trying them out.

    What tweaks would I need to do FDE-wise to get these spruced up for FS9, besides the ones the Dr. mentioned? Or, just load them and see?

    Thanks!

    With the Fw-190's they were pretty close to what I thought they should be. There was a contact point issue I remember with the Dora... me thinks. That was an easy fix. Lawdog has an excellent sound set for the BMW Radial engine used in the Fw-190A. I also think he did a Daimler-Benz DB-603 and Junkers Jumo sound set too. Been a while. If you need help, send me a PM... I'm pretty sure I saved all that on the back-up HD, or a CD.

    I hate to say it, but you guys have created a monster!

    I've been playing around with some of Akemi's offerings, and as BB686 mentioned, some of them fly pretty well! Others are a bit twitchy, and need some minor adjustments to the contact points so the Wheels touch the ground.

    I've tried the Ki-78, Ki-100, and the C6N1, and added the Homare sound set (N1K1_George.zip).

    The Models look very good in FS9; looks like I'm creating an FS9 Kokutai for these!

    You can fly most Akemi planes in FS2004 and FSX as long as they are MDL8*

    But you have to tweak

    Download the hex editor MDL edit

    Open the MDL file -->e.g--> out of mz-a6mr/model/mz-a6m5.mdl

    Search for CFS2-->You will see above that MDL8MDLH

    Replace CFS2 with FS90

    Cut all before RIFF ( so file starts with RIFF )

    Save

    Attachment 7101Attachment 7102Attachment 7103Attachment 7104

    Take an FS9 air file and aircraft cfg from such a plane (there are many Zero's in the net)

    Rename CFS2 aircraft.cfg like xaircraft.cfg
    copy of the CFS2 aircraft.cfg

    the contact section and overwrite the existing one (as well with the view section) to the new aircraft.cfg

    point.0=1, -18.83, 0.00, -1.11, 1600, 0, 0.33,180.0, 0.40, 2.5, 0.40, 3.0, 3.0, 0, 0, 200

    static_cg_height = 6.5
    static_pitch = 13.00

    Save-->done

    You now have a plane which fly's a bit like it should but have all the stunning exterior of Akemis plane

    If you want to be exact you need to fully twaek the air filae and the aircarft cfg

    Morton just uploaded a couple of Repaints for Akemi's Reisen to the Library, which just happened to be the complete airplanes. I loaded them into FS9 to see how they would react in the Sim, and they work very well! However, for some reason I cannot get any Engine Sounds out of the Models. Even after replacing the Sound folder with another folder from a different A6M2, it's still the same; I get all of the other Sounds like Flaps, Gear, etc. but no Engine! Weird...

    The Reisen shakes just a little at Idle, but it's not as bad as, for example, Ito-san's "Babs" that was just released. Once the Reisen comes alive then everything smooths out. The airplane flies very nicely, and the Repaint looks stunning in FS9. It's the best looking A6M I've seen for FS... including Payware!

    I'd like to add some Wing Lights and Marker Lights to her, just to spruce her up for GA flying...

    Engine sound
    Seems you need to add some stances concerning engine in the aircraft.cfg ... as I see nothing about (quick review of)
    EDIT:
    Even with the original aircraft.cfg .. the sound is good
    Be sure to have a sound "piston type"

    Sheesh...

    The dreaded Syntax Error! Both of the Sound Folders were labeled "Sound", with a capital S. I changed the Folder names to all lower case, and voíla... Engine Sounds!

    Anyway... the airplane shudders slightly at Idle; in my mind, it looks just like the real Reisen vibrating slightly in her revetment, ready to jump into the air.

    The shudder isn't as pronounced as some of Akemi's other Models; I know changing .cfg entries has been discussed below, but if it's not too much trouble, could someone who's
    in the know give a basic Overview of what Contact Points or other .cfg entries need to be changed to get rid of the shudder?

    I'm having the same experience flying the Reisen as Drzook is with his Hayate... in the air she handles as good, if not better, than some Payware GA birds I own. I can land the
    Reisen easier than many other airplanes I own, and those I've spent far longer flying!

    I have no problems .. maybe try to disable "Collision" in FS2004 settings !

    Thanks for the tips, Navtech!

    To be honest, I have no complaints either... like I said, the 'shudder' is barely noticeable at Idle, and it goes away once the Throttle's pushed forward. Crash Detection/ Collision is OFF.

    I've noticed that some of Akemi's models shake quite a bit more than the Reisen... what causes this, if I may ask?

    Shudder
    'MOI'S (usually)
    They are in the (Weight and Balance) section for FS2004 aircraft
    Sometime the solution is to increase a little the value
    That's a game of try .. test .. when playing with the values
    In my sim .. this crate don't shudder at all .. engine stop or idle ...

    [WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
    empty_weight = 3528 // (pounds)

    reference_datum_position = 0.0, 0, 0 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)
    empty_weight_CG_position = 0.0, 0, 0 // (feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from specified datum

    max_number_of_stations = 50

    station_load.0 = 170, -3.0, 0.0, 3.0 //Pilot Weight (lbs), longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum (feet)

    ;Moments of Inertia
    empty_weight_pitch_MOI = 3673.15
    empty_weight_roll_MOI = 2788.86
    empty_weight_yaw_MOI = 5226.17
    empty_weight_coupled_MOI=0.000000
    max_gross_weight=5547.000000

    Actually, I found that the pilot is textured out in the TD model; my guess is using alpha channels. All you need to do is to replace one texture file (fw190-03.bmp) with the texture file fw190-03.bmp from the old Akemi aircraft.

    Thanks Drzook, what a simple solution, brilliant , off to fly now.
