P3D V2.x and FSRecorder

Just as a head up for those who like to record their flights, the old FSRecorder version 1.331 still works in the newer P3D releases.
I just tried it and was delighted that it still does it's thing.

Exactly, I did that back when I was using P3D V1.4. Later versions of FSRecorder didn't work! I hope dev will pick up his latest version and adapt it to P3D V2.x.

Hey Mark,

If you happen to read this I just tried installing FSRecorder but will not install to P3D even when I put in the path. Manual says it will not install if it cannot find FS9. So I even copied over my FS9.exe into P3D to try and fool it. Did you have to employ any sneaky maneuvers to get it into P3D? Any leads would be most appreciated.

Hey Clutch,

i think I did it manually. It is described in the readme file if I recall right.
FSRecorder is just a module that is loaded by an entry in the dll.xml when p3d starts. Check Anaconda Catalogue and Best and less Catalogue.
Essentially, copy the fsrecorder dll in a folder like "modules" or the p3d root dir and make an entry for it in the dll.xml. That's all.

The app will throw a version warning when the the sim starts, which can be ignored.

Mark, is there any word if there is a later version of FS Recorder that will work with P3D V2.2?

Pat, the last work released was on June 22, 2012. Matthias seems to respond to posts on his forum from time to time but nothing new. You probably already know this. Does anyone have any other information? This is a fantastic program.

One of the earlier versions works in Prepar3d 1.4.

Pat, I second what Tom said. I have not heard anything regarding development towards P3D V2.2, unfortunatly.

I hope someone will bring an application like FSRecorder for V.22ff into being that makes use of the new simulation API of P3D. A lot more data can be exchanged with that interface.

Last of what I read, is that he did not have any intentions of bringing the program forward to P3D because there were several "custom things", for lack of a better word, that he did with code that is not supported by P3D. I guess it would be a lot of work to implement.

Having something like FS Recorder would make it really nice for making videos from the sim. My buddy Jon and I really miss being able to fly formation aerobatics over an airfield, then sync our playback on FS Recorder and watch our show from the ground afterwards. We just have a hard time going back to FSX and giving up our cloud shadows!

Using the older version is not so bad. I think when I used it last I liked it still better than the default replay. Haven't put it back in since I know P3Dv2.3 is just around the corner and decided to perform a full, fresh install rather than the patch.

I second what clutch said, I still use it with P3D v2.2 and it works. The only caveat is that it is not the newest version.

Thanks! We got it working per your instructions. We had seen this post long ago, but thought that FS Recorder only worked with P3D 1.4. Thanks for clarifying, we are really happy to have this capability again.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but roger-wilco-66's solution is still working - now with P3Dv2.5. Manual install, per his instructions.

Same 1.331 version still works on the current P3D V3.2.

However, you can record only 1 flight, and fly with it. You cannot record a flight with a recorded flight, so you can fly with a flight with a recorded flight of 2 flights. Make sense??

You'll have to stick with FSX/E to be able to do that.
