    Amazing story about a damaged B-52 that made it down safe.

    Note the bit about lowering the aft mains to help stabilize the plane.

    BTW How would you extend only certain parts of the gear? Is that B-52 possibility or would you use the circuit breakers?

    Two thoughts - I'm a wee bit surprised that a bit of low-level turbulence can rip the tail off one of these brutes - why doesn't it happen more often with civil aircraft ?

    Also, had no idea they have the facility for raising/lowering forward and aft gear independently - why would they normally need this ?
